  1. Want to buy SC400 driver's side Nakamichi speaker enclosure.. Located in PA will pay by Pay Pal
  2. Looking for driver's side speaker with enclosure if it is a Nakamichi unit.
  3. They seemed to do an OK job with the weights.. Since I pumped the tire up to 35 PSI the ride is a bit firmer, but the wear seems to have evened out. There is a 60 day satisfaction ride guarantee on the Conti's. I may go back and ask for another set to be put on. Now that the alignment seems to be better dialed in, I think I'll be OK. I think next time, I'll try Michelin's.
  4. For sure the suspension is a consideration.. the car has 108,000 miles, aside from the tire wear, the car has no driveability issues. No creaks, groans or pops as I have heard many others complain about. I love the car, but if I did have to put 2K into a new suspension, I don't know if I'd want to keep it. On the one hand I have a great performing car that I know is solid. On the other hand I have a car approaching 20 years old that gets 20 MPG highway and drive 150 miles RT every day. One thing I did notice today as I checked the tire pressure. The tech's had filled the tires to 30 PSI.. Seemed low to me. The sidewalls say max pressure on the Conti's is 51 PSI. I know underinflation wears the shoulders so I do suspect underinflation as a possibillity. I bumper the pressure up to 35 PSI all around.
  5. Hi Tim, Thanks for the response.. Yes, the feathering is more felt than seen. It is primarily along the outboard edge of the tire. about 1/2 inch or so in from the sidewall. They are the stock size factory rims with no modifications whatsoever to the suspension, no spacers etc.. Fronts are worse than rears. The tires are the new Continental Contact Extreme DWS tires.. I wonder if part of the problem is that the continentals are still very noisy as previous versions of the tire have been. I wouldn't think tire pressures would be an issue as the tires were installed a little more than a week ago, but you never know, I'll check again today.
  6. Hey there everyone! I have had my '95 SC400 for about a year and a half now. The car is great in almost every way, looks, acceleration, sound system rocks with the Nakanichi system, gobs and gobs of power! There's only one problem I have over and over again.. I got about 10 - 15K on the first set of tires that the seller installed when he put the car on the lot before they started feathering and making a lot of noise. I bought a new set of Khumo's because they got good reviews for low ride noise of course, I also had the car aligned. They were good tires, but after about 5K they too started to wear unevenly. I took the car back to shop that installed the tires and they re-aligned it again. The wear seemed to even up a little. Two weeks ago, I needed to replace the rear tires due to wear as they were down past the wear bars. I went ahead and purchased a new set (4) of the new Continental Contact DWS tires on the recommendation of the shop. They were great! Whisper quiet.. It was as if I got a new stereo system. The car was once again aligned when the tires were installed. I drive 150 miles daily for work. After only 10 days and about 1,000 miles, the noise was increasing noticably and I could feel the tires had started feathering when I ran my fingers across the tread. I stopped back at the shop and they took a look at it. They declared all was well with the suspension components. They found no play in steering or bearings or anything else. They didn't seem to think it was struts although they said after 108,000mi and 14 years, the struts could indeed be a weak link. They did acknowledge that the tires were wearing unevenly and they aligned it yet again, saying they would try to get it even closer to dead on zero error than before. Has anybody else had the same problems or know of a possible solution? I am sick of spending $500 on tires only to have them scraped up after a couple of thousand miles. Thanks!
  7. It would be helpful if you posted this in the member's classified area with pictures.. Ebay is another area where people where people list these.
  8. The 6 disc replacement changers are very popular, I will see if I have any left. I'd also be interested to know how much the replacement is. Oh.. also , do you have replacement Nak speakers for the fronts doors? ('95 SC400) I don't need the enclosure, just the speaker. Thanks!

  10. I don't think it's the T-stat. It was changed last year and the car heats up quickly. I had a VW Passat with a stuck open T-stat. Not fun.. I froze!
  11. Seemed to me I got about 20-22 on the highway the first week, then as the weather turned colder it went diwn just a bit. I can't recall if my other cars also lost MPG in the winter. I had hoped that by using cruise control and keeping the speed just below 75 I could stretch it to 25 MPG consistently. All of my driving is highway.
  12. Hey all, Question.. I have a '95 SC400 with 85K miles. On start-up, the exhaust smells like there is a lot of gas in the mixture.. As if the mixture is very rich. I drive all highway on my commute. I was expecting to get about 24 MPG, but I'm only getting 20. Since I drive 70 miles each way, that's 7 gallons a day. If gas goes back up to $4 a gal, I'm not going to be likin' the fuel bill. I've checked the obvious things like tire pressure. The distributer caps, rotors & spark plugs were changed 10,000 miles ago at the dealer. Is there any adjustment for mixture? I am assuming the ECU makes all of those adjustments.. Thoughts? Thanks
  13. I had the same issue.. It was the speakers.
  14. I did my first oil change on my '95 SC400 since bringing it home from the selling dealer. I bought it from a VW dealer who did an oil change on it when they got it. I assumed that the car dealer, wanting to keep their costs low, serviced it with whatever bulk oil they use for every car they service. I asked the salesman, who didn't know what it was serviced with.. So anyway.. I bought 5.5 quarts of Castrol Syntech synthetic 5W30 oil, and changed the oil and filter. I noticed when I started the car the other day after it sat for a day or two that I heard the valves tapping until the car warmed up. Something I had not heard before. I wondered if this was due to the change in oil that was used.. Does everyone here use 5W30 as specified in the manual? Has anyone found that 10W30 is better or that certain oils cause noisy valvetrains more than others? The car has only 75,000 miles on it and purrs like a kitten.. so there are no issues with the engine mechanically.. Only this noise until the oil warms up a bit. Thanks!
  15. Reference the speed.. Yep.. That's for sure. I was on the NJ Turnpike today and it seemed to be free of cops so I took it up to 90. Solid as a rock. I wasn't sure about the speed rating of the tires the dealer put on or I would have gone faster. I'd like to see some pix of aftermarket radio stuff folks have put in.. I love the stock look of the NAK unit. I can't imagine putting in a single din unit. Although I bet the Bostons sound great.
  16. As an update on this car.. Turned out to be the rear speakers.. Dealer fixed 'em. Car runs beautifully. I have been driving it about a week. I'll be wanting to see about having some back light bulbs replaced on the head unit eventually, but other than that it's a fantastic car! I drive 70 highway miles each way to work and the car's gas milage is almost as good as my 6 cylinder BMW! I'm getting about 25 mpg. Much better than I expected. Smoooth as silk engine. Nice civilized ride. I fear I've been converted to Lexus from BMW! Oh no!
  17. Thanks, I pukked the amp and found the two plugs. I verified the blue/yellow as constant 12 V.. I'll check the green tomorrow. Thanks again.
  18. Thanks! To be clear, you are saying this is off of the one plug that powers the amp?
  19. Nice job! I know the feeling about the posrs.. I assume it's because there are not a lot of our cars running atound, but there is not a ton of activity on this board. BTW, I am trying to install an XM radio in the trunk. Would you happen to know where I can tap into a constant 12V power source and a switched source? Nobody;s answering my post either. Thanks
  20. I just got my '95 SC400 and need to install my XM commander. In all of my previous cars I have found it easiest to put the satellite receiver box in the trunk. To do that, of course I need a source of constant as well as switched 12V power. Does anyone know of a good power source to tap into in the trunk area? Hmm.. perhaps Power antenna leads?

  22. Yes, it turned out to be two speakers in the back so they replaced those.. I don't know what brand they replaced them with.. Don't know if it makes too much difference, from the pictures I've seen of the Nak speakers they weren't that special. I guess it's the deck and 210W amp that makes it sound good. I think had it been much more involved than that, they may not have fixed it. I must say, it's a much more refined ride than a Bimmer 3 series.
  23. I brought her home today.. 1995 SC400. Every possible option. It's an awesome car, the more I drove it the better it was! I love the Nakamichi sound system. The car has only 78K miles on it and looks practically brand new. It was obviously babied. I have all the service records from the lexus dealer where it was serviced. I look forward to some good times! Great board here too! I did trade my BMW 330xi for it.. The ride is better in the lexus, I needed something not quite so stiff for my daily commute. The BMW did have some massive brake rotors on it and it stopped in a hurry.. The SC400 doesn't stop quite as short, but it is a bit heavier and I think the rotors are smaller.. Are there options for brakes that will increase stopping performance?
