  1. I don't know about "bling" but some little mods I've done to my 91 LS400 are 35% tint on the driver/passanger windows, 20% on the rear three, and 50% on the entire winshield. I've also replaced the ignition light with an LED, cost me a whole $2. And I've also got a Garmin GPS unit and a radar/laser detector if that counts as "bling."
  2. I have done a lot of research on HIDs and wile 4300K and 5000K are going to be much brighter, I'm really looking for a bit of the blue tint you get with the 6000K+ HIDs. I know the lesser temps are brighter, but I want that blue look that newer luxury cars from BMW, Acura, and Lexus give off. And I found the phillips screw, but the lights are just stuck in there. And when you said "the other bolts" do you mean there is something more to take off than just that one small screw before the parking lights can come off?
  3. I had the same problem as #3 on my 91 LS400. Might have been from rain as well though. Had been a problem for a long time until I fixed it. I don't recall exactly how I removed the parking light (driver side), but here's what I do remember: - I took the battery out, thinking it would give better access, etc., but it did not really help. - the light kind of came out at an angle. There's like one screw, and then it is snapped in at the other end. - I pried it and it popped out. I think it's pretty tough, and you should not be afraid to pry on it. Regarding the water collection, I looked at the light. It has a vent, so it is already exposed to air going in and out. But the vent was high up, allowing water to collect. My solution, was to drill a hole at the lowest corner of the light (on the black plastic inside, of course), allowing water to drain. Solved the water collection problem perfectly, and since the light was already exposed to air, I don't think I caused any extra problems by drilling the hole. I couldn't figure out why the light was getting wet in the first place, but this solved it. No problems on the passenger side. good luck Ok, I was kinda thinking about drilling a hole, but I thought it might cause damage, but now with your suggestions and thinking about it, I'm just going to drill a small hole at the bottom, very easy and will definitely solve the problem once and for all. I'm just worried about it cracking or something. And I'm gonna mess with that parking light because I really want to install my HID's but don't want to snap my headlights in half. Thanks man. It's illegal!! Yes, it is, but I'm not worried about it. It's also Illegal here in California to tint your driver and passenger windows but many people do, the result of getting caught is having to take it off and pay a maximum of a $10 fine, which is nothing. When I said opinions, I was referring to if 65% was too dark to see at night or if I could go darker.
  4. Hey guys, got a few quick questions about some little mods I've been trying to work on. #1 - My 91 LS's headlights are very dim. My fogs are much brighter than the headlights, which should not be happening. So after some research, I've decided to pick up a 6K HID kit from a local shop. However, they charge $1 per minute for installs and said it would take at least 1 hour, which is nearing the cost of the kit itself! So I thought I'd save some money and install them myself. I've looked at diagrams and pictures and everything, but I can't get the outside parking lights out. They seem to be stuck, and I don't want to break the clips by trying to force them out. So, any tricks to it? Anything? I have been pulling them out at a 90 degree angle and wiggling them but no luck. Any help or pointers would be appreciated. #2 - I have been in the market for some aftermarket subwoofers for my trunk and was wondering if I need to purchase a new head unit in order to install the new subs. Is it absolutely necessary, not needed at all, or is there an increase in performance? Once again, any help appreciated. #3 - My parking lights starting to collect water inside, about an inch so far. Only happens when I wash my car, not when it rains. Anybody had this happen? Also, after I remove and drain them, what would be a good sealant to keep the water out? I was thinking maybe like blobs of hot glue or clay maybe? #4 - Opinions on a tinted windshield tinted 65% for both UV protection and a little extra privacy. And I do about 80% of my driving in the daytime. Again, thanks for taking the time to look and any and all input, suggestions, and anything else would be greatly appreciated.
  5. I got mine done for $420 parts and labor from my long time trusted mechanic who isn't taking me to town. I called around and they all had around the same price and they said if they have never been replaced before, there is a 99% chance that they need replaced. Got them replaced and I honestly can't tell the difference while I'm driving, but after 18 years, I'm sure they were worn out.
  6. 1991 LS400 with 164K Miles I get around 12-14 MPG city, and I've got a little bit of a lead foot. But when I'm out of the freeway not using cruise, going anywhere from 65-80 I get around 16-20 MPG depending on wind and accelerating and decelerating in traffic. I think it's the weight of this car that truly hurts the gas mileage when it is starting and stopping in the city.
  7. I got special tint for tail lights and head lights done at a tint shop, but would have been much cheaper to use VHT nightshades. I used nightshades on my front markers/turn signals and they turned out very well. I did a friend's Camary, and my only suggestion is use super light coats, and do not rush because if you mess up it will never look the same even if you try to fix it up. If you still want a good portion of the light showing through, I suggest no more than 3-4 coats, and when it dries it will look darker. My 1991 LS400
  8. I have a little over 165,000 on a 1991 LS, but check this out if you haven't seen it already: http://www.lexls.com/info/555000+Mile_LS400.pdf 550,000+ miles is just plain amazing.
  9. That looks brand new, one of the best one's of that generation I've ever seen. I really like that first picture.
  10. Hey, I had the same problem last winter. I live in San Diego so it never gets colder than about 50 degrees, but when I would start my car up (not garaged) in the morning there was a light moan/whistle noise, maybe even a squeaky noise. Then, after a minute or two it would go away just like you explained above. I had it looked at, and the guy said it was probably just a fan making the noise until it warmed up. I stopped worrying about it and it went away when it got warmer again. Personally, I would not worry about it unless you think its a huge problem. The noise hasn't come back yet, haven't heard it since January or February so 9 or so months.
