Hi everyone, I've been out for a while. Does anyone know, besides ebay, where to get replacement for center console armrest for 96 ls400? The leather is all cracked on mine...or maybe there are places that can do new leather on it? Some part places wants over $900 which is outrageous. Thanx

I have engine ECU for 1996 LS that I don't need anymore. I upgraded its software to fix idling, jerking and so on issues. Its in very good cosmetic and working condition right now and it is came from california model (upgraded to all states model). If anybody interested PM or it will go on ebay. Thanx

Congrats!!! First thing I would do is take it to Lexus dealer and let them check it out completely. It would cost you $100-120 which is well worth it plus you will get to drive a nice loaner for a day. After dealer will tell you what needs to be done (if any), take the car to a good independant mechanic and fix it. Thats all there is to it. If the car drives well, there most likely nothing wrong with it exept some normal wear items. Good luck!

Why is it so amazing?? Any car with proper care and maintanence should last you that long. I had a Grand Prix back in 1990 that went over 200k with no problem. There is no reason Lexus will not do more than that. Just take care of it and it will take care of you - very simple circle of life!

Amsoil is very high density oil that I use for my motorcycle. As far as LS concern, I always use Castrol Syntec blend and go with factory recomended grade (5W-30). It works great for me....but its just my personal prefference. I wouldn't try to have any car run more than 5k on any type of oil or filter - syntetic or not. I think LS was engineered by very smart people...why would I want to test their knowledge?? Again....my personal opinion.

Your ac filter should be behind glovebox. Just read your owners manual - it should say location and how to change it (no tools required and it should take you 5 min.). You don't want to put anything besides OEM in there. Aftermarket filters are cheaper, but also smell pretty bad and don't last long.

What kind of sound you are talking about? Is it when you turn the ignition, or is it when it runs? Can you please explain? I changed my plugs and wires around 97k and they were in great shape still.

I don't know any way of checking ECU unless you have a computer for it...A lot easier would be to connect it to the car and test it. It's also dangerous. What are you trying to do anyway?

This is just an update....I didn't do anything (I did upgraded ECM but never installed it) and my car seems to be normal for the past few weeks. No problem at all. It's really strange, but I still think that cause of the problem was Seafoam...I could be wrong, but so far no one knows what went on :chairshot:

Can a Nakamichi head directly replace a Premium Head, or is there more to do to upgrade? tnltracy, What year and model ? I also have some common issues with my stereo....ussual backlight and lcd is bad....bunow its acting funny with sound, looks like apmis about to go. Mine is 96 LS (Not Nakamichi). Would you have pills for my sickness??

Emission is different. I'm not sure what exactly, but when I moved here 10 years ago with Grand Prix they didn't do anything but charged me $300 to pass smog....find out first what needs to be done and do it - its better then failing smog test. All I can tell you, california models have less HP just because of this emission requirenments.

Mine is 02 like you said and I replaced myself to 03 (I did some research). But now its worth than it was with 02. I think it needs to be programmed specifically for the VIN# or it will give you problems. Besides I got 03 off of Ebay....so who knows where it came from (looks like from the junk yard). Meanwhile I will do software update on my old 02 and see what happens. Thanx for the info.

I'm confused....I will swap my ECU again to the old one and see what happens. I'd rather have low idle and stalling off of ramps, then car shutting down on me at freeway speeds I will post result later

Could this be as simple as a fuel pump??

My problem came back after a few weeks....stalling engine while driving. Recently I've done timing and changed ECM. Shortly after, instead of being better, my car don't want to drive like it use to. First it started at 80mph down the freeway...my gages went down with a jerk like its dead (but it didn't stall), but in a couple of seconds went back to normal, next day the same for a few seconds, and nothing for two weeks after that. I went to a dealer to check it out and they didn't find anything wrong said it could be bad gas or an effect from Seafoam that I put in it). Now on Tuesday it started while driving in the city traffic....it did actually stalled a few times, but started normally. Wed morning stalled right after start, but worked fine all day. Thursday morning again....Could it be that my new (or should I say used, and I don't know where its been) ECM gives me this problems? Could it be something wrong with a timing setup? Any other things? it does it one day but its fine the other. It just becoming very unsafe to drive, specially if it quits on me at highway speed (I have two small kids in the car).....Please help!!! :cries:

It's been 2 weeks since and car rides great. No problems. So I can safely assume it was a Seafoam that did it, and it's not happening since I fuel up after that tank of fuel w/seafoam was gone. No more idling and jerking issues thanx to new ECM. Thanx to all for advise.
