  1. I have replaced a lot of the suspension on my 92 but now the cold weather arrives I need to spray the other suspension linkage. Has anyone had any experience with over the counter products. Case in point my door squeaked so I sprayed some wal mart slicone spray thinking it would help! Wrong...made it worse...Looking for something that really works.....
  2. I need to replace the Nakamichi from my 92 SC400.....I found two units but with different model numbers. Model 86120-24220 Model 86120-24230 Does anyone know the difference between the two and which one is the oem for the 92...
  3. Any forum members have experience with interior dash trim kits (wood) for the 92 SC400. I found a few on ebay, mojoparts.com, and BeneVento @burlwooddash.com. There are a few to chose from but not sure about the quality. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  4. I am going to replace my shocks front and rear, and lower control arm bushing......any help, links, pics on "how to" :) would be appreciated...... UPDATE: My previous posts for vibration and AC have been solved. Your feedback was excellent Vibration: Replaced transmission mount AC: Bad ground wire Starting Issue: Replaced Starter
  5. Anyone post pics or links to Interior Upgrades and mods, aftermarket, ect..... for 92-95 SC400....
  6. Any feedback on why my power steering was impacted after I changed the center y-pipe just after the cats. I checked all the PS hoses, no leaks, ect was working fine before the install, I did however have to work the new pipe in, tight fit.....any thoughts on what might have happened....
  7. I am in need of the y-pipe with resonator for my 92 SC400......any help on finding this part. Do they make an after market?
  8. The starting circuit consists of only a few components: Battery, cables, solenoid (relay), and the starter motor. Since you appear to have eliminated the battery as a suspect, next check that battery cable connections are clean and secure at the starter, solenoid, etc. If battery cables are OK, then suspect the starter solenoid itself. If the solenoid checks OK, suspect the starter motor. Hope that helps. Thanks for the info.....I think its the starter....When I went back out to try and start it again, still nothing but then I put it into netural and rolled back about a foot.....it started right up..bad spot on the starter....what do you think?
  9. 92 SC400...I drove for about an hour, stopped for about an hour and drove home, The following morning went out to start the car....I get all the lights, power windows, sun roof, dash lights, fog lights, ect all working fine, but nothing happens when I turn the key, like normal my dash indicator lights but "no cranking" nothing. I checked the battery it had a full charge, so I charged it anyway for about 4 hours, still nothing. Any ideals? never had this problem, I replaced the alternator about 6 months ago. I did check the fuses, #4, 18# under dash and #31 under the hood. Would a bad starter cause this condition? ignition module? both?
  10. When I start the car sometimes the ac light blinks and compressor stays off, sometimes it operates normally (blows cold air). When I was driving on one occasion when it was blinking I hit a speed bump and the compressor kicked back on the light stayed on...any thoughts?
  11. Does anyone know of a site or can help in the description, labor and parts to replace the camshaft seals and or crankshaft seals on a 92 SC400...I would like to take on the project myself......Thanks
  12. History: I have a 92 Sc400 about 190K.......in great condition always garage kept, bought new.....great maintance history, switched to synthic oil about 5 years ago.....never any big issues, some electrical now and then......but really love this car and is used for my airport runs..Last time out I was on the express way about 65mph.....when the engine lost power, seemed like half the cylinders....could still drive....never died.....I pulled over and noticed under the hood the mainfold pipes were're really hot.....I checked the water ect........no issues......water level up........I had it towed back home....did a number of test....pressure tested ect.....no water leakes or radiator leaks......but when I started it back up still have the loss of engine power.....I now hear a noise coming from the front of the engine....sounds like metal rattleing......checked the timing belt and tension could not determine if one of the tension pulleys or water pump is bad......just a slight movement on the clutch on the waterpump.........My mechanic said that it is possable the timing belt slipped therfore recommends replacing water pump, tension pulles ect....... Question: Has anyone on the forum ever had a similar issues or heard of one?
  13. 92 SC 400.........in excellent condition........never a history of problems..........but a few days ago I heard from the stereo a loud flutter and noises.......I turned off the player and turned it on again.........no problems.............but soon after this event, (it may have nothing to do with my problem now) I no longer have break lights.......so I thought the obvious and started looking at the bulbs and fuses........I have visually inspected all the fuses and replaced the fuse that controls the stop lights.....I have removed the tail light lenses and visually inspected all the lights.....All lights work including the tail lights....but when I step on the break.......the second filament in the bulb does not light......I was NOT ABLE to inspect the light above the sub woofer in the rear window.......Any thoughts of what my problem could be? How do I get to the rear window break light out?

  15. 92 SC400. Radio power out......checked all fuses dash, eng, ect........All other electrical working. Check 12 disc changer in trunk also working just fine....any suggestions..? Are ther any other fuses besides the ones mentioned?
  16. I blown the #9 (15 amp fuse) that controls the tail lights. After replacement the lights work but the tail light dash warning light stays lit. This happened after I stepped on the brakes. So I took the fuse out again, inspected for damage and put back in place. Started the car and the tail light dash warning light was now out. turned on my headlights and checked to see if any lights are out. All lights work, got back in my car and stepped on the brakes again and the dash light went on again, but did not blow a fuse and the lights work just fine, also the SRS airbag light is now lit. I replaced the fuse but light remains lit. Any suggestions would be helpful.....
  17. I need to do some repairs to my 92 SC400 front end, to include PS unit, res filters, hoses ect. I am in need of some drawings, descriptions ect and parts list. I have read the most recent threads concering PS, but cannot find any drawings. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  18. What was the original wood trim on a 92 SC400? My wood trim clear coat is cloudy on the driver’s side and front above the glove compartment. I tried the 3m rubbing compounds, scratch out, blue magic plastic compound and nothing breaks the clear coat. I gave each panel about and hour of labor. Without removing the panels and using 600/1000 super fine sand paper is there anything out there that can bring this wood dash back to respectability? I was hoping to do it with chemicals Regards
  19. I like the 16/7 non bright wheels that come stock on the 92 but would like to change tire size from 255/55/16 to someting a little wider. Can I keep my stock wheels and just go to a 255/50/16 or 255/45/16? Would I have to change rim size? Can I get stock looking wheels at the 17/18 size?
  20. Can I use the old emblem from the 92 front bumper cover?
  21. Thanks guys for the feedback. This is an excellent forum. Great job by the moderators!!!! Some followup questions. Because I only suffered cosmetic damage, after looking at the parts list----besides the new 97 front bumper cover and grill will I need any other parts to make it fit to my 92? Will I have to make some mods to accept this 97 front cover on my 92? I have found some 97 front bumper covers for around $71.00 Are these cheap? Or do you recommend buying from a lexus dealership? I found some carbon fiber kits ($500+) but that is out of my budget. Any other places on the net that members had a good experience with buying body parts?
  22. I was the victim of a blown truck tire on the interstate and it hit the bottom passenger side front bumper. After closer inspection the black bottom strip (black in my case on a Gold exterior) was concaved about 6inches. The metal brace that runs along the inside that holds it to the bottom of the bumper was pushed in. The area just to the right of the first opening is cracked as well as an area along the top about 4inches. Lots of tries scuff marks and actual paint chips missing from a few other areas across the front. It may not sound like a lot of damage but it looks awful. I have a few other pit makes and inperfections on the hood just above the bumper so the combination of this damage with the current bumper crack presents the car poorly from the front. I would like to change it but first ask for your advice. Should I replace it and buy new? Have this one repaired and painted? What about paint matching on a 12 year old car? Where can I find stock bumpers? Any input or suggestions on this problem would be greatly appreciated.
  23. I would like to change my tires and wheels on my 92 sc400 to something a bit more aggressive. The tires that come on the M3 LOOK GREAT! That is the tire stance (width)I like. How wide can you go on the sc400?
  24. What is the best recommended tire for a 92 SC400? I would like to change the standard look (tires and wheels) to something a bit more aggressive. suggestions would be welcomed! How wide can you go?
  25. I am happy to say I just bought a 92 Sc400. The miles are high (160k) but the condition and records are excellent. It is Gold exterior in very good to excellent with only a few minor scratches, no dings and always garaged. The beige interior is the same no tears or rips carpet is very clean with no stains. The driver seat has minimal wear with only a handful of stress lines. Engine was maintained by a Lexus dealership with the normal service. Oil was clear. Major service was performed at 120k with a new timing belt, service new brakes and rotors, Last year the AC was recharged and tested new tires and new Lexus carpets. The Nakimichi CD changer was recently repaired. All power items work. The car was owned by a Physician and very well maintained. Car cover also included. Price paid $5500.00 Any advice from members about further Maintenance on this vehicle with this amount of miles would also be appreciated. What do you think about synthetic oil? ect? What would you do if you just got this car? Maintenance wise? I would really like to protect this small investment and put together a monthly budget for Maintenance and upgrades. Nichola
