  1. The new GS's are AWD; check THAT out!
  2. Well, here's a fun question for you all for the holidays. I have $380 left on a Lexus gift card that I received from Lexus for a problem they fixed with my first GX470 (improper GVW sticker). I sold this Lexus and bought a 2004 GX470 and Lexus kindly extended my gift card until December of this year. So my dilema is that there is about $380 left on the card, I'm not due for a service by year end, and I'm wondering what to buy (has to be a Lexus product from the dealership). I have KDSS so can't have Lexus install a towbar (tried, but my dealership says it's verboten). So what do you think? A nav update? New tires and put them in storage? A timing belt? Thanks in advance for any ideas! Please don't voluteer to spend the $ for me ;)
  3. I've been tracking my mpg since day 1 (April, 2004). My new-to-date mpg is 16.371. My new-to-date mpg shown on my GX computer (never been reset), is 18.4. My guess is that when you're idling and getting zero mpg the computer doesn't take that into account. Just a guess. All I do know is that the computer is off by 2 mpg. YMMV ;-) Bob
  4. If you check your manual, it says to be sure you lower your suspension before putting on chains or changing to the spare tire. This is because the rear end lowers after you've turned off your vehicle and if you don't already have it completely lowered, you stand a chance of getting a big owie (that's a technical, medical term ;) ) Be careful out there!! Bob
  5. I owned an '03 for 8,000mi (9 mo's) and have had an '04 (with KDSS) for 10kmi (10 mos). The '03 had a rattle in the rear seat middle arm rest/cup holder; the dealer stuffed it with something and it went away. It also had the driver seat squeak/rattle when going hard around curves. I sold that one before getting it fixed The '04 had a rattle in the passenger front seat; dealer fixed it. It now has a rattle from the middle arm rest/cup holder when the holder is up; when it's down it's fine. I'll have the dealer take a look at that if I can't fix it. Regarding wind noise: the roof rack cross bars seem to cause a lot of noise. Moving the front one behind the sun roof opening and moving the rear one to the back of the rear passanger door opening seems to give me the least amount of wind noise. Also check the cross bars to make sure that the front edge is facing forward (there is an arrow on the cross bar that points forward). When I first picked up my vehicle one of the cross bars had been put on backwards. Bob
  6. The "back" door of my '04 GX became jammed last Thurday evening. I took it into my dealer who stated this was a known problem and ordered the part fix. It apparently occured as my wife tried to open the back door (the tail gate door) just as I was unlocking all doors from the driver's side unlock button. The back door would not open all weekend and when the button on the key was used to lock the vehicle, the vehicle no longer beeped at me or flashed its lights. All doors did lock, however. This morning, when I went out to go to work, the back door started working again and the car functioned as normal. At any rate, the "new" part is on order and I will get the latch replaced. Apparently they have to destroy the back door inside pannel, so a new pannel is part of the replacement kit. I figured, while I'm at it I might as well get a tow kit installed :D The dealer is offering a 20% year end discount, so what the hey! I'll be very happy to have towing ability with KDSS! They did say though, that the tow bar would sit below the bumper and not be integrated into the bumper. But it is dealer installed and warrantied, so that's definitely worthwhile. Anyone having similar back door issues, please chime in! Bob
  7. According to the owner's manual, when you add the optional KDSS system, the vehicle leans to the right while parked. This is to ensure that no champaigne spills out of the driver's glass onto the driver, only onto the passanger. The vehicle should be leaning slightly to the right. Gotcha! ;)
  8. I use a cassette tape device; you place it in your tape deck and it has a wire that connects to your headphone out on your iPod. Then just select tape output and you can hear it throughout the car. Not the greatest as there is a wee bit of background hiss, but it works well enough for me! The FM devices work far less effectively IMHO.
  9. The height adjust can also be helpful off road. It will raise or lower the vehicle's center of gravity. Even small changes in height can play a big roll in vehicle stability if you find yourself in a tough, off-road situation. If you look at the GX glossy literature, you will see that the angle of ascent will increase if you lower the body. This is caused by the center of gravity being lowered and the truck can therefore be more stable at a steeper angle of incline. Hope this helps. Bob
  10. Hello All. I'm expecting delivery of my new GX470 this week and am very excited. It's actually the 2nd GX I've owned -- long story. This new one has the kenetic system and the dealer stated that you can't put on a trailer hitch or tow anything EVER with the kenetic system. Anyone know why? Dealer just said it couldn't be done. Thanks in advance, Bob
