  1. have had the same thing happen to me and my 99 gs300. Given I told my man "time wasn't that big of deal" cause i've got backup vehicles. it's been there for 2 weeks. My man I referred to is an alignment specialist here in Nashvegas, puzzled as to what it is, exactly, that makes the same noise as a bad bearing on the axle. It's something he can relatively do easier than i can at home because of the facilities he has. He is overly qualified and I am relatively a decent mechanic being all though my forte is in aircraft. He replaced the bearings and the noise is still the same. I'll get back with final detailed results after the dissection of this hideous disease takes place.
  2. must give props: dcfish is the man......cheers to you mate you bring the knowledge. you speak the truth
  3. I have a 1997 ES300, got to the P-190 screen but no further. My CD player stopped working about a year ago. Would that effect the Advanced Settings? With your stereo knowledge, any tips on getting the CD going without replacing it? Thanks for any help. get an ipod
  4. Let's just say if I were the majority stock holder or CEO of any of the BIG 3 automakers.....My GS would be parked out front at our corporate office. I'd own a fleet if money was no object
  5. AHHH HAH! Hesitation and acceleration problems seem to be a popular topic on this forum. I went with the more complicated diagnostics first and found it was an easier problem to fix than was first expected. I had some hesitation problems, felt like a slipping tranny, mainly from a dead stop or a slow roll. At one point the throttle even stuck wide open on me causing a good old fashioned adrenaline rush. I posted previously about the tps and aps having problems in our beloved cars. So knowing this I attacked the problem. I used a multimeter and the Lexus repair schematics and got the resistance values (ohms) and ranges for each sensor. The accelerator pedal sensor and the throttle position sensor checked out fine, so did the throttle body motor. After further investigation I noticed the exposed part of the throttle cable had some lag in it. So I proceeded to gently tighten it up with the adjustment nuts that are on the throttle cable cradle. I am thrilled to say NO MORE HESITATION problems! Hopefully this helps someone else.
  6. the "chatter" or "shutter" in your steering wheel while extreme braking is more than likely your ABS doing what it's supposed to so that your tires don't lock up resulting in you skidding through that intersection. It's a rapid on and off firing mechanism of your brake calipers that the majority of time can be felt through the steering wheel.
  7. throttle position sensor or accelerator pedal sensors seem to be a known problem in the gs series that cause all sorts of hesitation problems and sometimes causes the accelarator to stick wide OPEN
  8. Still WAY easier than Bank 2 Sensor 1 ....On the top of the rear manifold, 3/4ths the way down the engine compartment AGAINST the freakin firewall. Which by the way, Autozone's computers will tell you the wrong sensor fits. They're computer catalog isn't correct. Just a side note to save someone my hassel.
  9. Ditto these other guys. The bigger bus fuses ARE SCREWED IN.... You have to remove fuse box from casing to remove screws first. My fuse box did NOT want to come out of the casing. Took me like 30-40 mins to get the sucker out. I removed the entire box off it's mounts and also removed the other tight fitting wire leads. Depressed the plastic dog-ears holding it in the case and it RE-FUSED (no pun...maybe some) to come out. Must have been settled in for so long that I almost had to break the casing from around the fuse box. Finally with much INFLUENCE I got the thing out and was able to remove the p-leads that are screwed into the bottom of those blasted bus fuses that hold them in so well. After removing the old busted bus fuses that had ring connectors and were "screwed-in". I replaced them using the after-market opened-ended ones which won't require all that crap I had to go through the first time.
