  1. I know this is a weird one, but does your GS smell bad? I have an 08 GS350 and neither I nor my children like the interior smell. I am not referring to so called new car smell - this has come later I think. I've had the car for 4 months, and I think it started after about a month or two. Any one else experience this?

I had a something like a burned cigar smell ( really strong) often.

I took it to the dealer and could not replicate.

Finally I realised it happens only when I wash the car . I wash my car every week almost.

It also happened on a very wet and rainy day once.

It lasts only for about a few minutes ( 3- 5 min) when I start it after I wash it.

finally this week I got the AC treatment done and the micon in cabin air filter replaced. the dealer charged $ 170 including labor .

So far I haven't washed my car after the service. seems ok

  2. The GS has to be a black eye for Lexus. It does not live up to the Lexus stardard as far quality, workmanship and a solid design. I dont think anyone who pay this much for a car should have top put up with a squeaky dashboard, especially when it is cause by a $2 dashboard clip. Performance wise, it is disapointing as well. The ride is too stiff for it's handling, Lexus still have a way to go when it comes to suspension design.

My worst nightmare has come true again.

    Here is what happened.

My wife picked up her friend at the airport ( her husband was at work and could not make it).

the dash started making noises again until she made it to the expressway. She was so embarassed she had to increase the fan speed and also the volume on the radio.

It is getting so annoying and upsetting now. guess she should have taken the RX instead of the GS.

If I trade it now I loose 25 grand straight . my worst investment ever. Its like investing in GMs stock.

  3. I was unable to sync my samsung phone took to the dealer and he said it didnot have the push feature.

Tried my sony and had no luck either, Funny thing the sony worked on my RX.

when I pointed it to the Tech he said the GS system was more advanced. BS. :censored:

Did you see this matrix here?

    GS/Samsung compatability matrix

Kinda sucks if you cant use your phone stuff...

My samsung phone is not in the list, although the sony is there it doesnt sync contacts with my GS. Next time I am in for service I will check it with another GS and see.

By the way my wife complained again the creaking / sqeeking came back again.

This is becoming annoying and Embarassing to pick up anyone wit this car

  4. Hey...they work with all the other Apple stuff...

I thought I read a thread where people were jumping through hoops, but managed to get their addy books updated?

May want to search using iphone address or some such...

    Good Luck!

  5. Besides, my wife and daughter like the refreshments that are available from the local dealer.

Isn't that hilarious? My wife loves taking her RX to the dealer for the same reason...loves the lounge! Lexus is brilliant sometimes.

After shelling close to 50 grand for the Crappy GS

they need a lounge specifically for irate GS owners like me with a complimentary massage and all.

I am driving a loaner car ( RX, ES or IS) at least once a month ( my GS AWD has so many sundry problems), I wonder why the dealers around me never have a GS loaner.

Our 2007 RX AWD is never in the shop except for service funny thing is it gives me the same mileage as the GS and better in winter. Should have brought an other RX.

any takes on my comment are welcome

  6. The little sensor under the 3rd brake light is a light sensor for your gauge's lense, they turn slightly blue when its bright outside.

Thanks for the information. I too just purchased a new 2008 GS350 and asked that question. Also, my third brake light, above that sensor seems to be twisted a little. When I look in the rear-view mirror, its not square with the windo at all. I'll have to check that out.

I wish they wouldn't have mounted it up on the legs like that...there must be a better way to get the light sensor for the guages without making it so cheap looking.

Also, my dash rattles when I go over bumps...200 miles old. According to some posts, it could be the speaker grill on the top center of the dash, is that it?

    Joshua

Can you exchange it for a new one. :)

They fixed mine thrice now and it keeps coming back. Although this time around it is working for a couple weeks without rattles/sqeeks whatever we call it.

exactly the reason why , i wish walmart sells cars with a no hassle return for a quarter

  7. Wow I hope it's that simple for me! Thanks for the quick response and out to the garage I go! I'll let you know what I find.

    Hi Joey,

The technicians at lexus would just replace the fuel cap and reset it.

    which normally works.

    however

    1. Since you had the check brakes on.

Have you hit a curb or skid your car ? in which case let them inspect your wheels

    2. keep your ears attentive for any noise coming from the wheels. when making turns(U) or changing lanes at highway speeds.

In any of the above cases it is recommended to take the tech for a ride and point out

  8. Hi Everyone,

I just purchased my first Lexus on Saturday. I was able to get a great deal through Lexus of Cerritos, CA. I have a few of newbie questions that I couldn't find by searching this forum:

    1. What is the purpose of having your headlights stay on after you've locked your car and walked away?

    2. Does anyone know if the ECT PWR setting hurts gas mileage?

    3. What is the little sensor under the 3rd brake light?

    Thanks for your comments!

    Richard

Congrats and welcome to da Club.

    1) The head lights switch off automatically or you can switch them off by hitting the lock button twice.( provided the head lights are set to auto)

This is to provide light to users in case they park in a dark drive way/ alley. i do not know about others , it definetely helps me as I park it outside which is dark an I reach my door in that light.

    2) Yes It does though not significantly unless it is from cold start I do see a 2 mile drop in stop and go traffic and on highway about a 0.5 - 1 mile depending on driving.

do not worry about gas mileage right now in winter it drops a lot .

3). I do not see what you are talking about.

  9. Lexus didnt do anything for the 08 GS as far as rattles are concerned, there are just as many 08 owner who has rattles as the 07 owners. You being from the bay area may not experience this because of the warmer climate. Lexus is suppose to fix the rattle issues in the 09 GS, well will have to wait and see on that one.

I moved from a beemer 5xi to the GS 350.

(I had to get rid of my BMW due to maintenance issues just after two years, it was in the shop for almost 30 days for one or the other reasons not related here.)

I was glad when I test drove the GS and decided to get this instead of the E Class due to high maintenance ( My family owns one).

The GS was quiter than the beemer even the tires were noisy , the ride was cushy and comfortable and the interior way ahead than my old BMW.

as winter approached I started hearing sueaks from the dash board whenever I hit a bump. I took it to the dealer and tey replaced the dash console.

the noise came back again this winter. My wife started complaining as she is embarassed to pick up friends. although no one ever noticed it.

I thought of getting rid of the car and started looking around for a replacement again before I realized none of the cars I was looking at were as quiet as the GS minus the rattle.

I took back to the dealership and they repaired the console / dash again it is quiet for now.

Mean while i excahnged the GS for a RX with my brother for daily use temporarily.

I found his new RX 08 had more road engine noise compared to my GS.

His feed back was I am being paranoid/ picky to complain and this is what happens when you donot listen to music in you car and leave your brain/ears idle.

I hoping it never comes back or i will trade it.

  10. If you havent got one yet, avoid the gs 300 and try to find a gs 350 ( 07 0r later models).

Try avoiding the gs altogether and go with the ES the ES is a lot more spacious and quiter than the GS. (only con is no AWD available) get one with ESC and you will never regret like I do .

I am not a big fan of my GS with AWD and noisy run flat tires skids a lot on Snow compared to an ES with no AWD and regular tires and ESC.

what more the mileage is also better and priced $10000 less.

  11. Also have a little what sounds to me to be like a glass on glass rattle from the front dash too... Well we shall see..

That glass on glass rattle from the front dash is the infamous GS dash board squeak, usually it just gets worst and worst.

I started having this rattling sound when i travel on local roads usually around 35 mph.

I took it to the dealer on the 5th of this month , the service tech drove with me and he heard it.

the dealer said they fixed it by replacing the dash console.

i started having it again last week and took it back and got it fixed last friday.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for now. and hope it doesnt come back

  12. Hi, I am a new Lexus owner (2006 GS300) and am curious about how many of you keep the all-weather (plastic) mats in your car all year round. During the snowy and rainy months they are wonderful plus I don't really like switching back and forth.

    Thanks.

    TTK

    Hi TTK,

    Depends on

1.which part of the world you live in and the weather conditions over there.

    2. Do you plan on cleaning/ washing your mats at all ? if yes you can change mats when you take them off to clean / if Not you can leave them as they are for the weathered look.

myself i prefer to clean the mats every week and put them back on.

    matter of personal preference.
