  2. Flowmasters are generally keyed for American. Greddy or a brand like that would be best to go with for a car like this. ..Good point...i forget sometimes i am in a import, cause i use to never hear import and V8 in the same sentence... Flowmasters are what i have on my 'stang. they have a good throaty tone. i havent heard what Greddy's sound like yet.
  3. Flowmasters and also other high flow/high performance mufflers have surpassed the cherrybomb age, the concept behing the cherrybomb has been intergrated in the new designs of performance mufflers, eliminating the need for cherrybombs altogether! ;)
  4. just make sure you have something under the Tranny pan holding it in place, there isnt much pressure on the tail of the tranny....it will drop slightly though if you dont have anything supporting it under the Pan, may put too much "twist" strain on your other mounts further damaging whats left of them... ...personally for me, the more support under the car, the better! :) Be safe! and post results...
  5. A very simple changeout indeed!! im glad i did mine last month! :) just make sure yous wear something to protect dem' knuckles, my bolts were pretty tough to get off.
  6. ...its all in good spirit fellas...this is just such a controversial subject! I'm not knocking Mobile 3309 or any other knock off down....i just dont see it in my recomended fluid type in my manual is all... Im sure Mobile has probably R&D thier product to the specifications of the tranny they go into and placed the product strategically in the market to get a piece of the pie - and sure enough it does exactly what the label says it does...meets or exceeds the recomended etc. if its your preference...go for it! these LS's are way out of warranty anyways :P
  7. that would be a good modification for a better cool air intake than the Factory setup for sure....and when you think you get the grapefruits to do it....take pics!! B)
  8. If you're not bouncing off the rev-limiter every once in a while, you're driving it wrong! :P I accidentally did that in the LS once while in nuetral, thinking i was in Drive! got a good chuckle and a raised heart rate out of it!

  10. ...prolly have to get in touch with NASA on that one... i wouldnt say drastically reduce, the intake pipe is too short for the fast moving air transfer heat particles to any sort of materials... thats way intercoolers are so big, that air has to move through alot of material to transfer the heat off... Try this as an experiment.. Shop Vac Duck Tape PVC pipe or equivalent the same length as your LS intake 2 digital thermometers you get the jist of it, but try any material possible inside the piping to see if it cools the air at any signifigance. ...Science is so cool... B)
  11. Gosh yeah.. I had a 1972 Buick Electra with a 455 engine... he car weighed nearly 5000 pounds, but it would still roast the back tires and pin you back in the seat. I most always babied that car, but there were two occasions I had to give her all she had. My current '72 Chevy Caprice and '73 Pontiac Grand Ville (both big blocks) are no slouches either, but I really baby those. ;) AHHH yes...the models right befor the government regualtions on the gas guzzlers....a 74' thru 78' V8 Block was only pushing 120 HP or less back in those days... <_<
  12. I believe you are wrong. There are only a few cars where what you say might be true (80s-90s Corvettes, virtually all diesel cars, etc.), but virtually all modern cars today perform best running the engine all the way to the redline. That's where all the torque/power is! ESPECIALLY on Hondas with VTEC and Toyotas with VTTi or whatever it's called.If you look at a horsepower/torque curve, you'll usually see the power start to taper off just a few hundred RPM before redline, but that's still much more than what's available when you shift to the next gear at that point (or sooner). (No wonder you guys are getting smoked! ) ..slight differences in opinions, no biggie. when i say take it to the redline, i mean i hear kids hitting the RPM Limiter before shifting..(NANANANANANANA..thats useless....and annoying. the only way your truly going to know what your cars strengths is to have it Dyno'd...the you can map out your shift points.

I agree with you on that one Jcrome, I thought Don Corleone was talking about the actual intake manifold was an upgrade intake the SC400's use, like they were designed different than our LS400's. Im leaving my intake Box Stock, cause if i ever decide to upgrade to an 04 LS430.... im selling mine, and i would like to keep most of it stock :)
  14. Which one's faster? My guess is the GS... Who knows... there are many factors involved in off the line performance. The torque converter on the GS may be designed to engage more gently owing to it's luxury nature. The 4 Runner probably has lower final drive and first/ second gear ratios to assist in towing. That would explain the jackrabbit starts; but does it run out of power at ~60 mph? I remember the GS seems to take off like a rocket and never look back... I remember most people being surprised that the LS430 with 'only' 290 HP was consistently the second fastest car in any roundup; only the BMW 745 was faster. It even beat the Infiniti Q45 despite having 50 less hp and weighing more. one of those factors being the Driver Himself, does he feather into an Hard acceleration or just stomp it hard core? Does he know the Maximum power curve in the RPM range and know his shift points to go slightly past it before shifting? most of the new cars today compute these factors for you in hard acceleration, but also puts in the mix the most "fuel efficient" factor as well...so it is better to "manually" shift yourself if you really know your vehicles strengths in the RPM range. I shake my head every time i hear someone (mainly teens) in a modded vehicle run it to the Red line before shifting....sounds cool yeah, but thats not where the power is, and youll get dusted every time you race that way.

  16. yaa i know that i found that out when i put two subwoofers in the back of trunk i was like wtf is this black thing...oh wow the gas tank, man that looks safe <_< YEP! safe indeed...its almost impossible to rupture in a rear end collision.. ;) ..unless someone fell asleep at the wheel in a Semi.

  18. Same thing happens in my 95LS every month or so, had to also slap on the top right side of the dash to get it moving again. havent taken the Dash Cluster out yet to remedy the problem!
  19. so the SC400 aluminum intake is an upgrade for the LS400 Block? just a bolt on, or is there a mod plate needed???

But the LS is no good at making turns! :P oh yes it is too!! aint nothin' like Hard-Cornering in a squirly turn in a full size Luxury Vehicle! i did that at lunch coming off a small 35mph turnpike hitting Traffic Flow at 80+! i bet my front left skirt kissed the asphalt once or twice... ...thats why i need new Bushings and Shocks!

A 2002 Accord V6 could easily take on a '90-'94 LS.Keep in mind the current Accord V6 has 271 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque and weighs at least 200-300 pounds less than the LS. but i know for sure the 95 and up LS will outrun the accords up to the 06' V6 model. I dunno about that. I drove an '05 Accord V6 for two years or so, and that car definitely seemed a lot faster than my LS does.The UCF20 I's weight and 4-speed automatic are really what hold it back. I guess the guys with the Accords i trounced on for trying to pass me needs to turn in thier mancards then!!! true, the weight of the car and the slushbox dont make it a great "off the line" car, but it does a good job in it's class. I had a 68 cadillac de'ville once with a 475 cubic block rated at 325 Horsepower and a 3 speed Tranny, that boat could float down the road pretty fast! it was suprisingly a quick car, despite it wieghed as much as a full size truck. Question for the gear heads: Is the heads on these Toyota/Lexus V8's interchangeable? for instance are the Blocks all the same design with the increase in Liters only in the heads? can the heads off a 2000 LS fit on a 95 LS Block?? the Horsepower increase always seem to be improvements in the Head design.
