  1. skperformance, you said the haze can be removed. how's that, a rubbing compound or something?
  2. Oh, and vanity is not my only issue with them. I can think of several occasions where I rode in a friends older (like late 80's) car at night, and could barely see the road cause the lights were so faded.
  3. can anyone tell me why car manufacturers are making headlights out of plastic now? It's so annoying when I park next to an 88' corolla with crystal clear headlights, then look at my yellowing plastics. shame, cause the twin projector cluster design on the 92'-96' ES looks so good. I feel like this is an important topic because a cars headlights are among the most important style statements (they're like the cars eyes). anyways, is it a way to cut manufacturing costs, or because they are less apt to fracture?
  4. CONGATULATIONS LEXUSFREAK! I'm sure your trip with the Lexus will be enjoyable and trouble free.. I do hope JPI didn't abandon this thread, he did seem a bit annoyed with it.
  5. I for one would really like to hear what that lexus engineer has to say about this issue. And toyota discontinued the 2.2 for this type of stuff? I'm not sure if its the same exact engine, but my old 91' MR2 (non-turbo 2.2 I-4) was very reliabe and sludge free, it was great. I put like 40,000 miles on that car (from 90,000-130,000) without a single problem. I always did think it was a slightly raspy sounding 4 banger though..
  6. Well I wouldnt call these (never change the oil) people stupid, I'd just say ignorant.. not quite so blissfully though. maybe they should include some kind of maintanence and car care section along with all that other "rules of the road" stuff, or do they already?, ahh I dunno. I talked with my former owner about my gummed up ES, and she said the oil was changed pretty normally. I guess this, and that burning oil stink, is a bit of an achilles heel for the ES. And thats a shame, because I think this V-6 is so smooth and sweet sounding, among the best. Oh well, I guess we cant expect perfection.
  7. Thanks for all the great advice fellas, but unfortunately my only option right now is the flush :cries: . I guess I'm just going to hope (and prey) for the best. I know my love and faith for toyota products will prevail over evil!!!
  8. lots of great info on this "gelling" problem. I'm new to this site because I just got my 93' ES300 and love it. but the other day I noticed the oil pressure light come on for a sec then turn off. when I checked the oil I noticed it... YUP... thick and black :( . The worst thing about it is I've already put almost all my money into the car, (new tires, air filter, oil change ect.), and foolishly didnt put any money aside for possible disasters like this.... do you fellas think I could use some sort of "miracle" chemical, to eat that ugly stuff up??? (oh and I know the previous owner, she seemed like the type to neglect scheduled maintenance) <_<
  9. :cries: I just went out to check the oil level and it was normal, but when I popped off the lid I noticed nasty thick black !Removed!!!! this must be whats causing the low oil pressure warning light?!? I traded my 91' Toyota MR2 for this 93' lexus ES300 (with a famember) and thought I was getting a good deal cause its only got 94,000 miles. but that black !Removed! makes me think she didnt do any of its maintenence.. is there any way I can get the inside of the engine pressure cleaned, or something?. I really dont want to eat the cost of tearing the whole engine down, that would suck. :(
  10. what does the little warning light that is shaped like an oil light, only in yellow with little water lines underneith it mean? is it low oil pressure? oil heat? It went on, and a few seconds later, went off the other day and I've been afraid to drive it ever since/... thanks for your help
