  1. YOu know...an internal leak makes more sense now that I think about it...that's probably why I never could SEE any fluid leakage evidence... You know, as a matter of fact, after the car stopped (and come to find out later, he hit a tree, no wonder we had so much damage--he couldn't see over the airbag during the actual accident..) the car was actually still running when he came to a stop. And after turning it off to wait for the police to come, and then trying to get the key out to wait for the wrecker, it actually DID fire right back up again! Funny, huh?
  2. thanks everyone for all your help...unfortunately, I guess I don't have to worry about power steering problems anymore, my husband totaled my Lexus this morning...he swerved to hit a deer and hit a bridge. The impact turned the car around 180 degrees and it hit the bridge again head on. Lot of damage...I'll post some pics when I get them...my husband is fine, though, thank God, walked away with only minor bangs from the airbag deployment...
  3. Oh please do! My boss suggested the same...I'm not sure how bad my leak is...I'm having to put more fluid in aproximately once every week to 10 days, and I can't actually SEE any evidence of the lost fluid, so I guess it has to be a small one...and there have never been any wet spots or anything under the car...but you never know...I'm watching the fluid level to make sure it doesn't run dry and basically just kind of waiting around for my husband to call someone to look at it and let me know for sure...if the lucas fluid works, I will get some and see if it helps...
  4. Good idea, I'll do that...if you don't mind me asking, about how much did you run into replacing the pump? Did you do the work yourself?
  5. Oh, I didn't know that! Thanks for letting me know before I really run into some problems! Do you have any suggestions on how to protect the alternator/wiring until I get the problem resolved?
  6. Thanks guys! I really am not mechanically inclined... Come to find out, yesterday, I went out and it was doing it again, still loudly, and upon further investigation found its the power steering pump...apparently I have a leak. Not sure how much that's going to cost, until I find out exactly where the leak IS...hopefully it's just a hose...any ideas?
  7. Question: I purchased a 90 LS400 in August--it got down to 30 degrees last night, the first night it's really been cold since I've owned it. This morning when I started the car, I got a loud, strange whine from somewhere under the hood. Not sure where exactly it was coming from. When the car engine got warm, the whine stopped. Is this something I should be concerned about? ANy kind of new, strange noises kind of freaks me out. This is my first Lexus. Any help would ease a troubled mind.
  8. Isn't it the greatest? I have a 90 model and believe it or not, I STILL get that great gas mileage on mine. I can go a little less, aproximately 430 on a full tank, not topped off, just filled till pump kick off I'm not sure how far it could actually be pushed; I've never run it until the gas light comes on, just till the guage is right on the E line--but that's not bad for a 90 model V8 engine. B)
  9. Everything in those early model Lexus cars is electronic. EVERYTHING. I had a wire become disconnected in the truck wiring harness, and my 90 ls400 starting acting all kinds of strange...my reverse light indicator came on every time I touched the brake, my reverse lights stopped working, and when you were driving, the rpms would rev up when you touched the brake. Also, when you touched the brake while driving the ABS system would kick in and make you feel like you were slamming on the brake even if you barely touched it. If the electronics are damaged, that car is basically junk.
  10. lmao... 1k. was considering it, to possibly do a swap into my supra-if the electronics get the best of me. my supra has seen better days, but would love to have a v8. had considered an LS1 out of the camaro/firebirds. Haven't found any that cheap. Dude, I got a 90 with 197K miles on it for 1500. And at that it's in great condition; runs great and has no electrical or other problems...just my personal opinion, I would pass...
  11. Hey, just a funny, my car looks almost exactly like yours! Except mine's a 90. How many miles does yours have? Just curious. It is a 1992, has 146,000 miles. I bought mine used about a month ago, it has 197000 miles on it, still seems to be in tip top shape, we had the mechanic go over it. Love the car, it's my first Lexus, actually. :D

  13. I just bought my LS400, it's a 90 model. Suddenly, my reverse lights stopped working. Now when I apply the brake, the reverse indicator light on my dashboard illuminates. I wasn't too concerned; figured it was just telling me the reverse lights were out. But when I drove the car after noticing the problem, the car feels like you have slammed on the brakes and the car lunges forward when you even slightly touch the brake, not to mention the reverse light indicator...does anyone know what is causing this and is it a cause for alarm? I'm worried about the transmission...
