  1. The search is over! I was tired of researching the ipod integration options and went to Best Buy today to get the Periphial brand adapter and even had it installed by them. (I'm a big-time do it yourself guy) $149 for adapter and $49 for installation. The sounds is awesome and the installation took about 45 minutes. I usually have my doubts about Best Buy but they delivered today! Quit searching and just go get this thing done, especially if you are getting frustrated with FM modulators! By the way, I have a 06 GS300 and have used this forum to get info on wheels and such! Thanks! NG
  2. I posted something on this about three months ago. Lexus replaced the short block and many other things on my 06 GS300. The car was losing all of it's oil by the time I made it to my next service (5000 miles). I also though the car wouldn't be as valuable with this kind of mech work done. However, I have to be honest and say that there is no differnce in the ride or feel or performance of the car. Get them to do the work and make sure you buy the extended warranty. Once you get the work done and buy the warranty, the dealership will do pretty much what ever you want. I just took it back in to have it looked at again and they had to replace a "leak valve" of some sort. Enjoy your new engine. Maybe ask them to do a detail on the car before you get back so it looks good as well! NG
  3. Thanks for the feedback. I found out today that they are only replacing the short block and all the gaskets. They seem to think that it didn't need the engine after all. The reason for the ADHD is because this is the car I always wanted. I will post an update later.
  4. Last Thursday my 06 GS started to sputter and the Low Engine Oil light came on. I immediately pulled over to check the car out. I pulled out the stick to check the oil and it was bone dry! I put in two quarts to get me home and took the car to the dealership the following day. It was due for an oil change anyways. I told the service advisor what had happened and was told it would be looked into. Fast forward to today and I get call saying there is a small oil leak but there is also a problem with the "o" rings that would require the engine to be replaced. Needless to say I was shocked at this. Fortunately I was well within the powertrain warranty, and have already purchased the extended warranty through the factory, so there is no cost to me. Though I am disappointed in this whole thing! The question that I pose is whether the car will be worth anything with a new engine. I'm still waiting to hear if I get a brand new engine or what that was rebuilt at the factory. (However, I plan on insisting on a new engine altogether.) Should I cut my ties with the car now that this major incident is happening? Should I just keep it since it has a new engine? Your thoughts are appreciated! BTW, I currently own 3 Lexus'. I haven't had anything near this happen with the other two. I have a 1996 ES300 that will probably outrun the other two!
  5. You might be able to get them to lower the price a little bit, but if you ask me, the price is pretty dead on for the number of miles on the car. KBB on this same vehicle, in excellent condition, with 51k miles is just over $28k...with my zip code entered. As for CPO, I purchased mine as a CPO simply because they have a warranty up to 100k miles, which is great piece of mind. Not bumper to bumper, mind you, but it's nice knowing that I have some coverage on the drive train. --Duckman I have to say that the prices quoted here are still higher than you can find in the Dallas area. I bought my 06 GS 300 (Nav, no ML) with 30k miles, and a "clean" carfax, for $24,000 from a local used car dealership about 9 months ago. I noticed the driver's seat wasnt cooling and a Lexus dealership determined there was no cooling unit in the seat. I went back to the lot and they cut me a check for $2000! So technically I bought the car for $22k. In my area, you can find an average deal for about $24k or better. Side note: I have been so pleased with Sewell in Dallas. They have taken care of my car and every nuance or complaint I have had with the car. Thsi includes the creeky dash and wind sounds through the doors and suunroof. I just purchased the extended warranty as I drive around 20k miles a year. I researched the heck out of extended warranties before doing so. Stick with the facotry EW. As GS owners know, once you are in a GS, you won't drive anything else!
  6. I have bad news for you. My recently bought GS 430 seems to have the same problem. Seems like the dealer left that out in our coversations. Anyways, is seems that this is a common problem with the GS's from 06-08 possibly even 09! What's worse is that my door seems to have fallen a bit or slightly tilted? It now gets rubbed against the fender making a clicking noise everytime you open the door, where as to now, it has bugun to chip the paint. My car has 80k miles, depending on how many yours has, it could get worse if you don't get it checked, I think the door needs to be rethightend, but i'll wait and see what the dealer tell me. I'll repost later. I went to the dealer were I bought the car (Park Place Lexus) to get it checked, the service manager asked me what the problem was, I told him, he said he could check on it, but he would suggest I talk to the sales rep to see if they would cover the cost being that it was just bought ( I did not suggest the dealer do this, this was the asst. service managers idea). I went to my sales rep, he gave me the dear in head lights look and he told me I needed to go backto the service and tell them that they should fix it, I did, the servic`e guy then tells me I needed to go tell the sales rep he needs authorization.... AT THIS POINT IM GETTING FRUSTRATED! I go back to the sales rep I inform him that I just drove 40min. I was not satisfied with the service I was getting. He then said, I was trying to get the job done free and I should have warranty and warranty should fix it. At this point I am insulted and appauld, because I did not want anything done free nor was it my idea. I just wanted my car fixed, that is all, and if they could throw some good service to go along with it, more power to them. I got neither. After all of that, I think I was there 1hr 30min and nothing had gotten done. After I was leaving, the servive guy notices the door stop was broken, he said it should fix the problema little, though, he could do nothing about the air noice, I didnt care, just wanted it fix. After I asked for the part prce, it seemed to much, 175..00 for door stop + 200 for install, I called SewellLexus and theyhad it cheaper, 125.00 for door stop + 100 for install.... I AM NEVER GOING TO Park Place Lexus AGAIN!!!!! I had the work done at Sewell, the put me in a loaner and I was off. The most AWESOME thing was when I got my car back, the service guy at Sewell told me that the repair guy said that he noticed the door rubbing against the fender and he fixed it. All at no extra charge, they were just happy to service me!..... I heald back tears. I now have no problems with my car, I am soooo happy!!!!!! Park Place Lexus, I hope your business goes broke If in Dallas, don't go anywhere but Sewell! Deal with Amanda in Service and she will help you with the upmost professionalism! Tell her netgabe sent you. I hand't read the entire post but I noticed the black door seals were flattneing and I took it in to be replaced under warranty. I have a couple of hundred miles to go before I hit 50k on my 06 GS. If the car is still under warranty, take it in for a check up, including the creeking noise from the dash and the seal around the sunroof. This is not covered by extended warranty. I'll post what else they found in their search for warranty covered items.
  7. Well, I'm on the 3rd tank and it's now showing 27.5 MPG through the first quarter of a tank... My baby might be back! most service centers provide alternate power to the ECU when the battery is disconnected. This way the customer does not lose radio presets, seat memory positions, etc. This alternative power source I believe allows ECU programming to not be reset to defaults. steviej
  8. Done the research on the EW on the internet. The biggest concern is the company going under. For about $500 more, I am sticking to factory extended warranty via Lexus dealership. Go to the dealership and ask for a contract and compare to what's out there. Hands down win for the factory. If you drive a lot of mileage and have decided on a extended warranty, I would recommand a Lexus platnium extended warranty. The Lexus warranty is a peace of mind compare to aftermarket warranties. With the aftermarket warranties, the company have to approve the repair before the work is done, that process can sometimes take a long time or deny altogther. There are also issues such as the comapny going out of business. What happens if a part fail and cause other part to fail as a result, many aftermarket warranty will only cover the original part that fail and will leave you with the bill for the other parts that fail due to the original failure. If you do some research on the intenet, you can buy a Lexus warranty pretty close to that price you got from the credit union. Thanks...great point. I looked up Toby Rivers from one of the posts on this topic and sent him a message. Any other resources would be appreciated. RR.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. I do a ton of highway driving and some city. I'm up to about 23.5 this week on the same second filling of the tank. I plan on taking it in on Friday to see what they say about the computer needing to build up history and to recheck the connections. Other than complain to no end, I'm not sure what else can be done. I sure do miss the 28-29 MPG I used to see! NG
  10. Yea, it wasn't better today. Its such a big change from before. Either the line is wider or it hasn't built up any crud to slow the flow. Thanks for responding.
  11. Long time reader...first time post... I have a 2006 GS300 that I recently bought and is in pristine condition. I had the recent service recall on the fuel line completed two weeks and I need to share my story. The dealership had the car for 5 days because they did the services on the other two bulletins for the steering and rear calipers. The day I received it back, the car started to sputter uncontrollably and smelled like there was a fuel leak. When I got out to inspect, I did not see fuel on the ground but could smell it coming out of the exhaust. I also noticed that my Average Per Tank mileage was down to 16 MPG! I called service and they stated that I should not drive and they immediately towed me a rental and picked up the car. They had the car for another 4 days and said that the car was using more gas to clear out some particles in the fuel lines and injectors. During the time they had it they said it was being observed as it were a living being! They gave it back to me and I am now in my second tank at an average of 20 MPG. To give you some reference, the car was at 28+ highway and 26+ city. I'm wondering what I have to do next to get my car back to the way it was. I'm really getting frustrated! Any advice?
  12. I'm new to the site. I just bot a 06 GS300, not AWD, but everything else: NAV, heated and cooled seats, rear sunshade, Mark Levinson, rain sensing wipers, rear spoiler.... I think the only thing that's missing is factor DVD entertainment system. Has 37k miles, immacculate paint. I took to Lexus dealership for pre-buy review ($440) and they told me to jump all over this car. No accidents and all service done at Lexus. Paid $26,700 in Texas. Man, I love this car! Had to brag....
  13. I need some advice before I put my car in the hands of a mechanic. I have a 1996 ES300 with 130k. Runs great. However, I recently had two codes come up: P1705 (Direct Clutch Speed Sensor Circuit Fault) and P0115 (Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction). The car recently started to make loud humming noise as I reached 40 MPH through 60 MPH. Has anyone had experience with this? I'm just trying to stay ahead of the mechanic. I have had no real problems with the car up to this point. I am taking it in this week for timing belt and water pump replacement. (By the way, is this one of those engines that will NOT be damaged if the timing belt breaks?) Thanks in advance for your help!
