Use synthetic and use high milage oil. And don't be afraid to go above the recomendation number (eg. 5w-30 to 10w 40) as vehicles with high milage tend to have loose bearings and all high milage oil is is a thicker oil in the 1st place

162,000 + Miles. If u stay on top of basic stuff, Oil changes etc. these cars are bulletproof.
-
Wish I had seen this before I paid multi-millions to have mine changed.

Just remember that if it is the transmission the problem will NEVER come and go. Transmission problems do not do that.

EMC may have gone out.

They have platinim in them I beleave. Il let u know if im wrong. My friend owns a shop with a lot of junk cars siting around and a company paid him $24,000 for all the cat converters. It was a lot of cats but still...
Hers what my dad did with his monte carlo if u want a cheap fix. Put car on bay, saw converter off, tack back into place and run engine pretty hard for a while, remove cat, (B very carefull its hot), run water through it, wear extremely protective gear during this as water will shatter restrictions inside of cat, so it still looks like uve got one but u reallly have a completally non-restrictive mechenism now.

When I received a 1992 Lexus LS400 for my b-day the car smoked on startup. The mechanic ordered an engine for it, only to find out the problem was the PS pump leaking (causing the engine to burn it off on startup, hence the smoke)
So if you or anyone you need is interested in purchasing one email me at Kenhewett@bellsouth.net or leave me a message on this site

Yea I had the same prob. 'sept mine leaked into some reservor and made the engine smoke when I started it, Ny mech sed I needed a whole new motor and ordered one only to find out that the only prob was the PS pump.
Sooo..If anyone needs a 90-96 LS400 engine I have one 4 sale.

EMC has gone out probably.

On my LS400 the front right brake line had somehow gotten a hole in it. Fill brake fluid reservor then pump brakes while having someone watch the lines. they cost about $40 a peice

Im not sure but I had to replace the compressor on my LS400. They usually have a few on ebay for pretty cheap if it turnes out thats the prob.
-
On my LS400 I had the same problem and it turned out the compressor was leaking. If its noisy when u turn it on thats prob the problem.

I own a 1992 LS400 and recently the engine started giving me trouble. The symptoms are: once rpms idle down below 1000 they wont go back up again, even if floored. Eventually it will go but only after working the pedal back and forth for a while. Any clues what it might be? When this occures and pedal is pushed down the engine with throb back and forth without reving up.
