  1. You will have to buy the attachments like from http://www.yakima.com. Its about $110.00 Brian
  2. That reminds me, are there any Lexus Bone Yards? I know in my Porsche community we have about a dozen bone yards that I can call around to when searching for parts. I found an SC400 that has front end damage for $1300.00, the idea of a part car may scare off the GF LOL I just finished up a 1973 Porsche 914 project in which I picked up two other parts cars... they lived off to the side of the house while I worked on them. See didn't like it to much LOL then again she doesn't like my cigar collection either...but she loves me :) Brian
  3. Sweet, I took a peak thru the front bumper and saw the cooler :) Happy Happy Joy Joy... Oh man I forgot to check the rear end for a drive line to see if mine is the FWD or AWD... Back out... Brian
  4. Okay now am really confussed LOL The PDF for 2000 does not show a RED color, my 2000 RX300 is red. And I thought all of the RX's were AWD. I guess when the GF gets back from shopping am going under to see if what we have is FWD or AWD and to see just how this hitch is set up. Hummm Brian
  5. Hey guys, I have a 2000 RX300 with what looks like the factory tow hitch in the back. Is there an easy way to see if I have the "tow prep" package??? Brian
  6. Hey man, while I don't have an SC just yet, I do turn the wrench on other types of cars. The starter is typically the easiest part to pull off and replace. You should be able to take it to any auto parts store and have them test it... for FREE. However, the smoking issue makes me think you might have another issue... If you have the time, pull the starter, get it tested, and see. One less thing to worry about. Brian
  7. Derek, That is what I was looking for :)... Okay, guage needles, climate control LCD, injector ticking and alternators. Check! Rust in these cars? Didn't think they would do that with all the zinc and undercoating they put on them nowdays. Have my first appointment on Thursday... will let you know. Brian
  8. Hey guys, My girl and I bought a 2000 RX300 and now I have the Lexus bug bad. I got to test drive a 2008 IS-F while at SEMA, and must have seen a dozen SC400/300's on the streets of Las Vegas. So am on my local Craigs List and found several 1992-1995 SC400's ranging in price from $3000-$6000.00 Before I go off to test drive them, kick the tires, what should I be on the look out for? Brian
  9. Today was the big day... first had the opportunity to sit in an IS-F hooked up to a dyno. Jumped in and was instructed to shift up at 6k and then without hitting the brake down shift at 5k. What an awesome jolt the IS-F gave me, smooth like silk, as I tapped the leveler and started the ride all over again each time I hit 6k. Coming back down was just as much fun. Then off to the test track, and behind the wheel of an IS-F. Here I pulled up to the starting line. The instructor says hit it until the stop sign, then put your foot into the brake... Zoom we rocket down the lane, that damn stop sign come up fast... about 60 miles per hour... then in almost a 1/4 of the distance the six piston calipers slowed us down. Next to pull up to the skid pad. I get this "lock the wheel and hit the gas", and as a good boy I do as am told. Next thing I know all four corners of the car seem to come alive and we are doing 360's with out any effort what so ever. Last we take on the cones at about 20mph, while am used to doing this in a flat six about about 50mph. I will have more tomorrow along with photos for everyone. Brian
  10. The guys over at Performance Friction have a new Z-Rated Brake upgrade kit for the IS-F. I will be check this out next week at SEMA and letting everyone know what I find out. Here is a copy of their press release along with a photo. Performance Friction Brakes premium Z-Rated Brake Upgrade Kits are custom engineered for performance aftermarket and track day street vehicles. Capitalizing on its championship-winning racing brake technology in rotors, calipers, and brake pads, the company has now applied its dominating racing braking expertise to the street and track day enthusiast. Unmatched braking ability, pedal feel and modulation, and durability once only available to winning racing teams and drivers, are now available for performance enthusiasts -- without upsetting the stock chassis balance, ABS, and emergency brake activation of their car. Z-Rated Brake Upgrade Kits are made in the U.S.A. and include these genuine racing components and technology: - Forged aluminum monobloc brake calipers that are precision CNC-machined – a monobloc design reduces any caliper deflection, maintains superior caliper alignment with the rotor under braking, and improves pedal feel over two-piece calipers. - Aerospace-grade radial mounting of the caliper – this mounting also reduces caliper deflection so pads make uniform contact with the rotor, produce less heat than a typical stock chassis “pin-slider” caliper, and yield improved torque application to the rotor. - 4-piston, 4-pad calipers – PFC’s short aspect ratio 4-piston design yields a stiffer caliper body; reduces drag and temperature, and improves release and control over 6-piston designs. Less unsprung weight per corner and more uniform pad wear are also benefits. - Z-rated Carbon Metallic ™ premium brake pads – these are included with specially formulated friction compounds for each vehicle chassis to ensure maximum braking efficiency and balance during street and extreme use. - Two-piece, full-floating Direct Drive ™ V2 rotors – rotors eliminate vibration and pulsation; reduce drag to increase fuel mileage and improve pad wear; reduce piston knock-back; and lower heat transfer to the hub. The reusable hat assembly reduces lifetime costs. Z-Rated Brake Upgrade Kits are custom-developed for their chassis – one brake caliper or rotor or brake pad does not apply across multiple chassis. Overall braking capability improves with these specialized kits, and stock ABS and electronic chassis control are not compromised. Z-Rated Brake Upgrade Kits are a Prosumer level of braking capability and technology ready for street performance enthusiasts who also track their vehicles.
  11. The lock doesn't move at all :( A 996 TT... no way lets shoehorn in a Cayenne V8 Turbocharged by TechArt at 1100hp in an RX Speaking of speed and horsepower, I attend SEMA each year for work and unless its Porsche I turn down requests for things. But this year I signed up for as many Lexus products as I could. I will report back to the Club during the week of SEMA with all the Lexus news I can get! Brian
  12. Wanted to introduce myself, my name is Brian and my wife and I just bought a 2000 RX300 with 92k on the clock. Am trade am an automotive journalist for an online Porsche publication called 9magazine.com, I write how to articles on restoring, repairing, and upgrading Porsches. Yea I own a few of the German sports cars. Anyways, the only issues I have with the RX300 is the rear drivers side door lock will not work... other than that everything seems to be working well. Plan to lend a hand to the Lexus forum as things come up with my RX. Brian
