  1. Whether this is a variation on the same problem, I'm not sure, but I have 98 GS300 that I never liked the jerky response of when applying the gas pedal. Lurching forward? I don't recall that, but I do recall instances where it would actually lose power...one instance being the sensation of the car nearly dying on me as I intended to quickly pull out and merge into traffic. A visit to the Lexus service department confirmed that some of the more "spirited" drivers had complained of similar behavior for vehicles in a certain VIN range, and the in-warranty repair involved changing out the engine computer. If your 99 GS isn't out of warranty yet, you might inquire with your service department about the problem and see if it too is related to the engine computer. I've never seen a problem since my repair.
  2. You may already have your tires but, if not, I'll be shodding my GS300 with Toyo Proxes TPTs when they arrive this week. I felt a V-rated tire was more than I really needed and would just wear out faster, so I'm going with an H-rated version at $102/tire from NTB via special order. DO NOT put Dunlop SP A2s on the GS300. That is what I replaced the OEM Bridgestones with in 2002, and while rated as a 50k tire, they only lasted 20k. This seems to be a relatively common report on the Dunlop SP A2...not wearing well on heavier cars. Fortunately the short life of the Dunlops means a 60% credit toward the Toyos I'm buying.
  3. Hello All, I'm new to the forum, finding it as the result of a search on the Toyo Proxes TPT tires which I'm awaiting delivery of for my 1998 GS300. For anyone who might be curious about the Dunlop SP A2 tires, I strongly discourage them if you own a GS. When I bought them in 2002 to replace the OEM Bridgestone RE92 Potenzas, I ready many good reviews that encouraged me. Now, only 20,000 miles later, they are worn out from routine city driving to/from work mostly. 40% tread life?...That sucks. More current reviews of that tire are revealing they aren't too well suited to heavier cars, which I suppose the GS is considered. The salesman at NTB told me they were seeing pretty much the same thing with the Dunlops. Although the Toyos were a special order, the price for an H-rated version (I don't see a real need for V) was good at $102/tire and I'll get 60% credit for the Dunlops. With luck, the Toyos will prove to wear much better and still give me the good characteristics I initially saw with the Dunlops. Daryl
