  1. Thanks for the advice... Here's how my problem was resolved... 1) Turns out my cam sensor was faulty, so I got it replaced (by Automotive Techniques, Toronto - import/performance car svc: atracing.ca). 2) Even though #1 addressed the engine check light, the VSC & VSC Off lights still remained on (but not when I start the car - only when I move). The guys at A-T checked with a dealer who told them the VSC lights are on because of my lowered springs, and they need to adjust the sensors accordingly, and only they know how to do it, or some such gibberish. Turns out, after further research that my use of a engine code reading tool caused the VSC light issue. I guess not all ODB-II tools are not created equal. So to fix that I used the OBD connector jumper technique discussed here: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-430/416...off-lights.html http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...4entry367124 And boom-badda-bing! Problem solved!! And Lexus was going to charge me $150 for the privilege of them using their special tool to fix it... ya right! Hope this helps others...
  2. Greetings fellow SC430s... I recently installed a Dragon (Secret) Weapon-R cold air intake on my 2002... At first things work well for a couple days, then the Engine Check, VSC, VSC OFF lights came on & stayed for a day or so after I accelerated somewhat agressively... but after a day or so (3 trips) the lights went off. But then a few days later all 3 came on again & stayed on longer before turning off, and now they are on & remain on. And on top of that I've had several bouts of difficulty starting, especially restarting after a drive (i.e. running an errand). I bought an OBD tool to read the code, which it turns out is PO340 (Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Bank or Single Sensor). I have no idea what means or what the implications are. Any suggestions? Is this a coincidental malfunction of some kind or did something get messed up with the cold air intake install? From what I could gleen on the Net is the following things might be affected: - battery - poor gas quality (fix with chevron techron fuel injection cleaner?) - brakes/rotors - brake fluid level Any & all advice would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
  3. I wouldn't say "prettiest" car, but I would say my sc430 is pretty "sick" (in a good way)... I bought mine used off eBay last summer... it's a 2002 & dark purple in colour ("twilight amethyst pearl" to be exact) I live in an area that doesn't have that many sc430's... so my car is a rarity already. I made some simple enhancements to it (not as much as others on this forum), i.e. 3rd-party 5 spoke triple-chrome rims, painted (red)/lettered (white) calipers, blacked-out grill & debadged. I went from driving a '98 Honda Odyssey van (seriously)... to this... and I notice people looking at my car all the time, while driving, while parked... I am totally shocked at the attention it gets, even from Porsches & other high-end car drivers. I've been asked if it's a Maseratti or some other exotic... One guy in a VW Golf nearly rear ended the guy in front of him because of my car (I feel kinda bad about that... but only a little) While at a gas station I heard the boys in an SUV ask their mom, "ask him what kind of car that is"... All I wanted was a reasonably priced, reliable hard-top convertible... and for about $20,000 I got such a sweet ride (and the head-turning aspect was a totally unexpected bonus)... I would have to spend triple that or more to get something as comparable... but then it wouldn't be as fun... Have a great rest of the summer everyone!
  4. Being new here & to sc430s in general (don't have mine yet - in progress)... just wondering if having these sensors is really necessary given the aforementioned headaches (i.e. more trouble then they're worth?)...especially in light of potentially running with 2 sets of tires/rims (summer & winter)... given the cost, I'd rather not have to buy 4 additional sensors if I don't have to, and if possible will disable the 4 I have when I swap tires.
  5. On eBay search for: LEXUS SC430 2002-2008 NEW CHROME WHEEL CENTER CAPS x4 I think that might be what you're looking for... also in black... and only $80... :)
  6. Thanks for all the valuable info so far... I am in the same boat... considering a 2002 sc430, however with 107K miles for $17,000... not sure if that's a good deal... sadly it has no service histroy... it has had 2 previous owners & no reported accidents/issues (I think it was a lease vehicle)... I intend to have the local dealer scope it out, and if nothing is out of the ordinary, perform the appropriate maintenance for that mileage & finalize the deal... Given the amount of miles, is there anything else I should be wary of or look for, in addition to what was already mentioned? I REALLY like the colour, which seems to be hard to find...and so far, in my research the sc430 seems to be a dream car (& my first Lexus)... I was previously looking into used BMW conv (w/optional but separate hardtop), Mini conv, Solara conv, Celica conv... but I just didn't have the comfort level WRT roof leaks/noise/visibility... From what I understand Lexus is the upscale end of Toyota, and my from what I have experienced with my 90 Camry & the experience of others, Toyotas seem solid, reliable, robust & low maintenance. My my hope is Lexus is all that & then some... My goal is to pamper the sc430 & do what I can to make it last for a long time...(I have a '98 Odyssey with close to 500Kkm)... my only concern is its current state & history... if it hasn't been abused, or nothing is irreparable, whatever short-comings it may have now, I hope to repair/negate & get it back on tract with regaulr & through maintenance. Any & all advice would be appreciated. Thanks! frank
