  1. I’ve had my 95 LS400 going on 9 yrs now. She has about 174,000 miles and still looks and runs great. I get comments all the time. It’s been a real pleasure driving. However, over the past year, I’ve had some weird issues arise. I’ve searched the forums for topics, but was unable to locate anything. Here are the three main issues….. 1. After cranking the car, I can select any gear without pressing the brake. Also, the vehicle won’t manually shift into 2nd gear. The gear shift jumps over it every time. 2. I have to disconnect the negative battery terminal to get my key out of the ignition. I don’t know what to do about it. I’ve asked the Lexus mechanics and they have no idea either. 3. Sometimes when I select reverse after I first crank the car, the car will jump hard. If I then shift the car to drive, it will jump hard again. It feels as though someone is actually running into the front or rear of my car. I hope I have made sense. I just need some advice on what to do. Please help.
  2. when the key is out of the car, i can move the shifter freely, even without pressing the brake pedal. when the key is in the ignition, i have to press the brake pedal to shift out of park.
  3. my dad told me to disconnect the battery, and it worked. i was talking to a friend at work, and he suggested a cut off switch which is mounted under the dash. i might try. ANYONE KNOW OF A DIY of adding a cut off switch??????
  4. I have the same problem. The only way I can get the key out of my ignition is to disconnect the battery every time. Its a pain but gets the job done. i dont know what the issue is or how to correct it. No one I have talked to knows how to fix this problem.
  5. My 95 LS400 was broken into and the front windshield was busted out. As a result, small pieces of glass fell into the gear selector. I took it all apart to get the glass out. I put it back together, but not correct. The car shifts fine, but does not go into 3rd gear. Does anyone have a how-to on putting together the gear selector? Also, there was a plastic piece laying at the bottom of the gear selector area, and I don't know what it goes to. PLEASE HELP.
  6. the key will not come out, after the car is shut off. i forgot to add, when I did take the shifter apart, there was a broken piece, laying at the bottom of the shifter mechanism. Where can I find a replacement part numbers? Have you or has anyone seen a DIY on rebuilding the shifter mechanism?????
  7. I removed the shift indicator from my 95 LS400. The only was I found to remove it was to pull hard at all four corners. Each corner popped out, and eventually I was able to get it off.
  8. i have a 95 ls400. a few weeks ago, the key started getting stuck in the ignition. this only happened after the car was cranked, and put in gear. i tried cleaning out the key insert, but nothing helped. ive done most of the stuff suggested on these forums, but the only thing that has worked for a while was tapping the key with a hammer. after a few taps, the key comes right now. i talked to a mechanic friend, and he suggested there might be a prob with the shift mechanism. a few yrs ago, the front windshield was busted out. my friend said there might be glass in the shifter. so i took the shift mechanism apart, and there was a bunch of glass and other junk. i had to take apart the whole shifter to get to it all. (as i took this apart, i noticed a broken piece laying at the bottom of the shifing mechanism. i dont know what it came from. does anyone know how to get replacement part numbers for this area? does anyone know where I can find a DIY also?????????????) but now, i cant get the shifter to work right. i took plenty of pics to make sure i could get it back together. now the car will shift into gear even without pressing the brake pedal. i took the car around the neighborhood to make sure everything else worked ok. i noticed the car will not go into 3rd gear. even when i put the shifter into the 3rd gear, the transmission will not shift. it will drop to second, but not 3rd. does anyone have a diagram on how to put the shifting part back together. i am guessing by all this, i didnt do something correct. now after i have done this, the key will not come out of the car. even with the hammer taps. PLEASE HELP. i have no idea on what to do now.
