I have same problem after disconnecting my battery to replace my Instrument cluster. Would also appreciate feedback on this question. Thanks

Anyone have a problem with early model ES300 (1994) hard shift from 1st to 2nd? I have removed the instrument cluster and sent it out for repair but am driving with cluster out. Does anyone know if this could effect shifting? I know it seems like silly question but thought maybe there was some sort of electronic signal sent from Gauges to tranny....it started when I pulled out the cluster. Coincidence?
