  1. Hello, I recieved this email from the Chevy Dealership I bought my car from. Im not at 55K yet. It was my understanding that until 60K service I did not have much to worry about. Right now im at mid 53 k. So i was planning to change oil & rotate tires @ 55 but that was it. Sooooo.....would all this be necessary by my fellow lexus owners standards...or is the chevy dealer looking to make a score? Regards. Your 2005 Lexus Gs 300 is due for its 55,000-Mile Service. 2. monroeville.....maybe Ill bump into ya if your ever in the S. Side
  3. Damn I would love to avoid a situation like that. Looks like when time comes to replace them I will avoid them. Regards.
  4. It is my understanding that 2nd Gen. GS' are larger inside than LS' of same years. I know that the cars are smaller. But in terms of actual interior room they one up the LS of that time period. Never sat in an LS though so I couldnt tell you what it feels like.
  5. So that being said a proper rotation, even with these directional tires would be front left --> rear left rear left --> front left front right --> rear right rear right --> front right. Any info on these nankang tires? From what I read they are fairly cheap-o tires. I have yet to drive a GS on any other tires, so I have nothing to judge against...but they seem fine to me. Im curious to see the difference when I do replace them. Thanks for the advice.
  6. Hello, I caught these for sale locally. What do you feel they are worth? I would use them as winter wheels. Or maybe just something to change from my chrome 16 in. Anyone put have experience with these wheels on a GS? Thanks Seller Description: Factory lexus IS300 wheels and Bridgestone Potenza RE040tires. Wheels are 17x7 front and 17x7.5 rear. Tires are 215/45/17 front and 225/45/17 rear. One front tire needs to be replaced due to camber wear. Wheels were my winter rims and have some curb rubs. I would rate them 6 of 10. One center cap is not shown but I do have it.
  7. Hello, So I have owned my car for about 3 months now. Put on about 2K miles. I am planning to change my oil here in the next few months / few thousand miles. Purchased w. 51K right at 53K. My question deals with tire rotation. Please bear with me as this is the first car I have personally owned. Before this I drove a dodge dakota, ford explorer, chevy blazer. All vehicles I never gave much TLC. Now things have changed with the lexus. So I would like to do things right. When it comes to tire rotation do most of you follow your rotation schedule at each oil change? Also the tires that came with the car are Nankang. I believe that these are directional. Should I stick to rotation every oil change? Is there anything about these tires (nankang) that i should know? Sorry for the simplistic questions. I just hate asking a mechanic. "Yeah we are going to have to pull those baby's off coat them four times in petroleum jelly, balance a marble on them & they will be ready to go".......ok slight exaggeration but you get my point. Thanks for the insight. Regards.
  8. ..? and is it true that drilling holes in your exhaust makes it louder? ewww....dont do that to ur lexus. do a true upgrade. Not some half !Removed! chop job by drilling holes. v8 growl out of the peacefully quite inline 6 is a stretch. Listen to some aftermarket systems run off the I6 motor see what you like.
  9. There were slight revisions in 2001. Try google or search the forum, I couldnt list them all right now but they are small. Eg, different tail lights. Great cars to own. Again you can search the forums or google for problems and such, but remember that most people come here because they want to solve small problems, not because these cars are problem prone. If i had to put one thing up I deal with is wheel vibration between 60 & 75 mph. This is common and there are a number of posts you can search to become more educated about it...& many tips to reslove also. I can not see how you would be upset with a solid 2nd gen GS.. Check the car as you would any other. Check door locks, windows, leaks through seals, color & pannels in line w. one another ect..
  10. http://8007610235.ecrater.com/product.php?pid=3394367 Anyone with any experience w. the angel eyes fog lights? My fogs do not work. I have not checked the fuse yet (where would it be located? I am still w/o owners manual) but either way I think I am going to upgrade the bulbs in my fogs to match my headlights. I still have to figure out what bulbs are in my headlights (one highbeam is out ) I will try to get some pics to see if you guys can tell. Questions vary, when you upgrade your fog bulbs do you guys leave the stock housing/covers? I think the link i included looks like a neat product. If the new housings that come w. the package are what they appear...i feel they would match the headlights well. Then again I really would like to avoid any cheesy add ons. Therefore Seeking feedback..... What are your opinions? Thanks
  11. Are you refering to a GS or ES? Title says GS, your info says ES. Aside from balancing tire / alighnment you may want to look at your rotors to see if they are warped. Try searching the forums. Im not sure about the ES lineup, but 2GS' are known for some vibration. Mine hits 65-75 but is butter aside from that.
  12. I am not sure how dark mine is. I’ve never had tints b4 so I wouldn’t know, but the doors/rear window are very dark. Not that it really helps. If i ever find out Ill post. Question for ya: What is the best way to find out what bulbs are in my headlights? B/c the car has had little touches of customizing I believe he changed out the headlights. They are def blue in color. My dilemma is one of my high beams is out and I don’t know what to replace it with. Also my fog lights do not function. Is finding out if/what the previous owner replaced the headlights w. simply a matter of pulling the bulb? What is common bulb to replace the fog lights w.? Im not sure if the fogs are burned out or just do not switch on.... Thanks
  13. I have not noticed anything like that, but next time we get rain I will check it out. Being that I have only owned the car for a few months, and it came w. modded doors I may have just never noticed. Ill let ya know.
  14. not hating just not my taste/style its a tad overkill...instead of 3 JL's get ONE good set and go from there yeah nav is normal except that wood cover. the oem cover is actually cloth like the trunk lining or carpet... Im going to fill the pods since they are there. I plan to fill all 6 of them w. JL Audio XR650-CXi plus one in each back door. Im with you on the doors. One thing I do like that the previous owner did that I thought would bother me is the Tinted windshield. Im amazed how much I like it. Still iffy on the roof spoiler......Im gonna leave it...but Im not sure if I would have opted for it. Maybe It will look more in place if the car was lowered w. bigger wheels.
  15. i know.... i think its more than a possibility, i think its almost for sure if you followed the diy and ruled a connection out... (like if your getting continuity through the wire) i think they might have pierced/ripped/tore a wire when they did the first install Maybe the Gods will smile & when I have the audio work done some revelation will present itself.
  16. Doors already getting hated on! :o . To tell the truth I would never pay to have them fabricated/installed, but since they are there I am gonna fill them w. 6 1/2 in JL's. As you mentioned in my other post, I dont know why he had the lexus symbol put in, his own taste. I do like them though. I guess Just being a little different works for me. So the trunk Nav is normally set up that way huh? The covers on OEM are plastic? So all in all I plan to keep the doors as they are. Im going to fill them with the JL speakers, Run a single JL w3 12in in the trunk. Ill talk w. my audio people in terms of carpeting everything back up. Thanks for looking.
  17. Like ya said, I didnt build them or have them built, just came w. the car. So you think its a possibility? Im curious if maybe the wire may become 'un-crimped' when I have them pull my dash/doors for the new audio? Im hoping anyway. Not sure if thats even possible, but hoping.
  18. Here are some pics of the passenger door speaker panels the previous owner had in my car. Back doors are stock. This dude had some place in NYC do all his car audio. I believe these door panels are custom made, correct me if I am wrong, but I could not find them online already fabricated. However the guy in Pittsburgh I had look at my car to put the audio back in said they are a common addition to modded lexus'. When the previous owner traded the car in he pulled his aftermarket head unit, subs, & 2 of the speakers in each of the front doors (so there is only 1 speaker in the 3 pods you see.) All I have now is 1 speaker in each door putting out highs, and no sub at all (left the stock ML sub out as a port for his subs) I have included Pics of the trunk b/c I am curious about my navigation set up, I have not seen the trunk of another GS, but this has to be different. I plan on putting all JL audio into the car. keeping OEM Nav, filling the doors & 1 12 in JL w3 in back. Thanks!.........Oh yea and my Girls Trailblazer SS.......little women, big trucks!
  19. When you had your codes ran was it by a Lexus dealer? I would tell them ASAP that the o2 sensor did not resolve the problem. It is my understanding that this could be related to a number of things, some of which you stated. Good Luck w. it. For my problem they had to do "extensive diagnostic work" because there were so many codes they had to find out what was causing what blah blah blah. Eventually they came to the assumption it was a shorted wire in the wiring harness, but they could not be certain because I did not give them the OK to open up my dash for further diagnostics. How would a wire in that harness just short out? is it possible? I suppose anything is. Is it common? Would it be reasonable to deduct that when whoever put the OEM nav in the car could have caused the short? This is just MY assumption, I am curious if any of you might believe this could be true. How else would it just short? I am still in the works w. the Chevy Dealer in long island to cover this while the car is still under the 3K mile/ 60 day warranty. On a better note...finally have some pics...check out my door pannels in the new post.... Thanks
  20. u have a oem nav they had unplugged and then rehooked up? did u get this sorted out yet.... Yeah the car came w. OEM nav / ML sound but the previous owner had all custom work done w. audio and his own head unit installed while he owned. The nav when they reinstalled the OEM could not enter a destination when my parents first went to look at the car. This was fixed before the car left the lot and has worked fine since. The nav was brought up along w. the VSC light but like i said some random mechanic came out and somehow got the VSC light off for a moment. I spoke w. him directly and even he said he had no clue what he did....he was just the only person in the Chevy garage w. a little insight to lexus. For sure...if they want to f**k around I will take legal action. They keep claiming that only the motor/tranny/master cylinder ABS is covered. But I will continue to fight this and request that they cover this major component on the car. Ill keep you updated. Pics will come when I can afford a new camera!!!! Regards
  21. Unfortunately I was not In NYC to pick the car up. The light was on when the car was viewed at the dealership. Also the navigation was not working. Because the previous owner had everything he had in it removed when they put the stock navi in they didnt hook it up correctly. These were all noted by my parents who were kind enough to go look at/test drive/ purchase the car. The dealer had a random service guy come out and he was able to some how get the VSC/VSC OFF light to go off and then the dealer fixed the navi. Now when my stepfather went to get the car He didnt believe the VSC/VSC off light was on...but to be honest Im not sure how credible that is, I dont know if that light was on or off when he drove away....I am willing to believe it was off. But all i know is that when I got to Connecticut from Pittsburgh 3 weeks after we bought the car, the light was on. The car had only been driven twice. Once on the ride from NYC to CT and once when my mother took it for a 2 mile test drive. I talked to the random service guy who came out and somehow got that light off. He has no idea. Again I wasnt there my parents were. But a random Chevy service guy who has a little knowledge of lexus did something supposedly. When I spoke w. him on the phone he couldnt remember. Go figure. I ran through the wires best i could. I found no visible defects and could not feel any flat spots, I was not able to use a multimeter.....I am in the process of working w. the dealership to cover this. I will go through each wheel/wire again. See if there is something I missed. Ill keep ya posted. I may have to wage war on this Chevy dealer if they claim they will only cover my power train. I mean that wiring harness is like the backbone of the car correct? Thanks for your replies man......I wish I had all your knowledge and knew exactly where/what to look for & test.
  22. I went through each wheel well. All wires appear to be intact and not torn/deteroirating. Im having issues w. the dealership I bought the car from now. Claiming warranty only covers powertrain. Motor tranny, drive axel. I will have to read the fine print when I get to my copy. The lex dealer here claims it is a wire in the harness that is shorted. I am not sure if it is impacting the system or just activating the light to come on. If i cant get the dealer i bought it from to fix it under warranty I will prolly leave it be until I have the audio replaced in my car. They are going to have to pull my dash anyway. The dealer said that whoever pulled the previous owners radio and put the stock GPS back in may have crimped a wire or something. Does that sound reasonable? Im trying to think of arguments to present the dealer to cover this. I dont know what to do. Car looks/runs/drives like a dream though. Regards
  23. Lexus Dealership in Pittsburgh thinks there is a short in the wiring harness running from my dash to the engine compartment causing my VSC/VSC OFF lights He cant guarantee till they pull the dash but he believes it is one wire shorting out which would have to be repaired. He estimated $1,200. He said worst case entire harness needs to be replaced. Estimated $4,400. I asked if the short was causing just the VSC /VSC OFF light to be on, or was there actually a problem with the system. He said if the lights on something’s wrong. I have this car under warranty @ the Chevy dealership i bought it from in NYC. They said he would have to send it to their lexus guys, no idea on repair time. Thoughts?
