So I replaced my front brakes (not OEM) for the first time this past weekend and, while taking the worn right front off, I misplaced the clip for the sensor wire. I got an e-clip and put it back together and I thought everything was fine. BTW the previous owner cut the sensor wire on the left side. When I started the car, the brake sensor light came on..and stayed on. When I call the dewlership, they said that I need the clip, but they do not sell it. The question is?
Do I need the clip?
Is there another clip that will work?
Where can I get one?

Thanks for all the advice. I tend to forget that I own a Lexus and I should treat it as such. BTW, I went with the OEM and the problem is fixed.

I am being told by a "certified" Toyota/Lexus repair person currently working on my car that aftermarket coils do not work on my car because they do not have the proper resistance necessary for my LS400. I kinda know what that means and I think it is a load of crap. Is this true?
Backstory- I had some shuddering going on when I taxed the engine- almost like backfiring- and made the determination that the coils neded to be replaced. Got to the top one, but the one under the distributor was too difficult for me, so I took it to a repair shop for them to replace it for me. NOw I am replacing both- plus some other crap.
AND- he also said I should use an OEM oil filter not an after-market because of some kind of oil sensor that tells the engine iff the filter has oil in it or something. Should I be looking for smoke being blown up my !Removed!?

Really good story. Just another reason validating my purchase. Glad everyone is all right.

And when should I change it?

MY 92 LS 400 antenna is not working. I can hear the motor but the antenna will not go up or down. Does any know of a site where I can purchase a replacement. I guess I need a new mast and motor. Thank You
And your motor is probably fine. Search the forum for antenna and you will find the fix.

I will wait 6 months or 5k miles and go synthetic.
I like this forum.

I am about 1500 miles left for an oil change, but it has been 3 months. Should I go ahead and get it done? And I don't it has synthetic in it, but should I go to synthetic anyway? Is there a significant benefit to it?

I can roll driver-back window down, but not up. I am using the driver controls and I can roll the back window on my side down, but not up. Passenger back is no problem. WTF?

Added the OEM brakes to the rear and it was somewhat easy (had a friend with more knowledge helping.) So far so good. No squealing and they stop like a dream. I just saved about $200.
NEXT PROJECT!!

I bought some OEMs from the dealer for $85, which was a pretty decent price. I will give an update after a couple of "stops."
BTW, should I use that stop squeek spray on these? Does Lexus have an issue with that?

Newbie question. What is the ECM?
The ECM (engine control module) is basically the car's computer that controls systems like fuel injection, idle speed control, emissions control, self diagnosis, etc.
OK. Does a failing ECM give any warning signs? I am having an intermittent low idle issue and I wonder if that would be the cause...

Good point.

Newbie question. What is the ECM?

Match pads and rotors
ie... OEM pads with OEM rotors
or Knock-off pads with Knock-off rotors.
NOT Knock-off pads with OEM rotors, or vice versa.
I have heard of AND EXPERIENCED problems with mixing products.
I have owned the car for about a month so I don't know if I am on OEM or not for any of it. But if I don't go OEM, go ceramic?
-
I am about to replace my rear brake pads and I don't know of I should replace them with OEM or go with non-OEM pads? I have not taken the calipers off yet so I don't know if the rotors need to be re-surfaced/replaced. I am just concerned with the pads right now.
OEM or Non-OEM?

I think #1200 is a bit much. Look here:
I thought about fixing/replacing mine myself and I think that is a a job too big for me.

I have a '93 and I am working on that very same issue. Here is the link that I am using for the part (when I get around to it)
http://www.lexuspartsworld.com/Scripts/default.asp
And think is the link on working on the antenna mast:
Hope that helps,

I know. I have the same intermittent dilema. I will drive the car for 4-5 days with no problem, then it will happen once. I may try the throttle body fix and see how it works for me.

I just spent the better part of 2 hours reading an older thread on here concerning an idling issue with 95's and I read that there were some older LS's with similar problems:
1. Car will idle in 500-600 range, then drop to 300-400, then go back up to normal.
2. Occasionally it will- when stopping- drop below 200RPM for a second, then back up to the normal range.
3. There have been times when the car has died on pulling away from the light. This has happened a couple of times.
4. This problem has only happened to me when I am stopped at a light or when the car has been running for a very short time after sitting for a few hours to overnight.
5. The problem is intermittent, although I feel the problem will get more frequent if not addressed.
I read a couple of possible fixes:
1. Fuel filter
2. IAC?? Where is it?
3. ECU, but that has not been verified for older than '95 cars.
I have this problem and I am searching to fix it, so I thought I would start this thread so that we can find a solution for the old LS's

No, you cannot program keys/remotes to LS400s prior to 1995. You can have a maximum of 2 remote keys at a time. They are "programmed" by installing a ROM chip that is paired to them in the keyless entry ECU, located on the left side of the trunk interior.
If you need to add another remote key, your best bet is to buy a new set of 2 keys and ROM chip from a place like Sewell Lexus Parts. That package runs about $250. Your original keys will still work, but keep in mind that the remote function will only work on the 2 new ones if you go that route.
I just bought a 93 400 and I have pretty much the same problem. I used the directions above to "reset" the key I have and it did not work. I also replaced the battery in the key and it still ddi not work. Do I have to just reseat the ROM chip and try the process over? Are there pixs on the forum for that chip. I have read where it is located, but I don't want to pull the wrong thing.

Im sure this has been addressed, but does someone has a link to the forum notes or can someone explain how to fix? Thanks.

Hello everyone. I just picked up a 1993 LS400 with 150K. Everything I have read about these cars tells me that I can expect another 150k if I am mindful of the maintenance. I have only had it a week and I really like it. A good choice.

Water Pump Going Out?
in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
Posted
I went and had some work done on my 93 LS and the guy said " Your water pump is going out. I saw some moisture on it. You should be fine in the winter, but I would not let it go too long." I am new to the Lexus world, but I thought if a water pump was going out I would KNOW it (overheating, puddles, etc.) I have no puddles in my garage and my reservior level has not changed in 3 months.
1. How will I know when my water pump is going out?
ALSO,
Attached is a pic of my temp gauge. Is this a normal range for city driving? Seemed a bit hot to me.
Thanks for the help,
Duane
