  1. At 30 thousand miles, my 2013 ES350 has started to produce a new noise from the left front.

It is noticeable from about 30 mph up to 50 mph sounds like the noise from a very aggressive snow tire. When I put the car in neutral and coast, the noise doesn't diminish as the engine RPMs decline..The car has Michelin Primacy MXV4s.

Any guesses what this noise might be?

  2. Can someone explain to me how to raise my headlight angle. I am sure some of you have noticed how horribly low they point down and done this yourselves. So please explaint to possibly save a few lives(MINE, WIFE, PASSENGERS).

    Thanks Guys!!!

I'm interested too. I may be missing something, but I haven't been able to find a thread of previous postings about this.

  3. Try getting into the back seat of the car and lean as far away from the dash as possible. Then lock the doors using your key fob. Your alarm will go off if you manually open a door, without using the key fob...so unlock one of the back doors and open it.

A window break will not set off the alarm. Someone needs to break the window, reach in, unlock a door, and then open the door for the alarm to go off.

Even simpler: Roll down the driver's side window. Get out and lock the car with the key fob. Reach in from the outside and open the door with the inside door latch. That should set off the alarm.

  4. Time to find new tires for my 06 GS 300 AWD. Have some cheap rotationals on currently and they are way too loud. I'm tring to decide between Michelin Primacy MXV4 or Bridgeston Toranza Serenitys. Rims are 17". My acura has bridgestones and i've been realitvly pleased. Any suggestions? My local dealership recommend the Michelin Pilot series but all online reviews tell me they are not the tire of choice. Priority is quite ride then performance then tread life then cost. Help would be appreciated.

I've got 60,000 miles on my Bridgestone Serenitys on my GS 300 RWD, and am very happy with them. They are extremely quiet, and have good traction on wet pavement.

  5. There are plenty of reputable resources on the web with instructions.

    Bottom line,

    1. Change oil and filter just before storage

    2. Add stabil to the gas tank and run the engine for a few minutes to the the conditioned gas throughout the fuel lines/system. You have to use a fuel stabilizer that is compatible with the ethanol gasolines. There are two that I recommend. Stabil (blue) or Sea Foam.

    3. Put a trickle charger on the battery or use a battery tender at least every 2 weeks.

    4. Get the tires off the ground. Use jack stands or you can get these specialized mats that you park on that will prevent flat spots on your tires.

    5. I do it on my motorcyle when she is put to bed, it may be hard to do on a car, but fogging the top of the cylinders is very helpful and prevents bare metal friction upon start up.

    6. Wash and wax the car with a good wax. Then cover it with a decent cover. If stored inside, use a soft flannel car cover. If outside, get a durable cover that won't scratch the paint but will stand up to the elements.

Thanks. I'll do all of the above.

  6. Hi:

I have a 2006 Lexus GS 300 Rear Wheel Drive. Navigation (Lexus upated 2008), Mark Levinson Sound, Heated & cooled seats, Park assist, Rear Camera, Blue Tooth, SnoTrac. Cypress Grey and Cream leather. I also have all service records since the car was new. It has 87,000 miles on it from regular travelling between Minnesota, where I bought it at Lexus of Wayzata, Chicago, and Ontario Canada. I'm retired now, with three cars, and have to thin out the fleet. $24000.00 US. Call me at 519-754-4158, or email me at stan.cox@sympatico.ca

  7. Skillydog,

Thanks for the great advice - I appreciate your input here. I can definitely live without the nav and backup camera - I think I'll be too busy staring at the car and/or speedometer to notice (what an amazing automobile)! Also, any guidance for me about paying the right price? Just curious here and I'll proceed cautiously - thanks again for the input.

I have a great 2006 GS 300 RWD with Nav, Mark Levinson, etc, etc., which I have driven in Canada for for 3 winters with no problem at all with Dunlop Graspics. I'm considering selling it. It's an American car which I bought in '06 at Wyzata Lexus in Minnesota. With the American Dollar at a premium against the Canadian $, you'd do pretty well.

  8. 2007 GS350 AWD

I just blew out the side wall on one of my original Dunlop run flats in a pot hole. I am looking to replace all four tires and I am looking for advise.

I live in Boston so I am looking for all season tires, as the Dunlop's were adequate in the snow. I am thinking of replacing the set with Nokian WR G2 run flats. Has anyone had experience with these tires? I want good sport performance to enjoy the car, along with winter driving capability. I understand they will not give me dedicated snow tire traction. I am also looking to avoid feeling every pebble I drive over, which the Dunlop's so skillfully provide. Is the only alternative to give up the runs flats and go with an all season performance tire. I have the spare tire.

Any information on the Nokian's or other options is greatly appreciated.

I've had great luck with a set Bridgestone Serenity tires on my GS 300 RWD. They're comfortable, very quiet, and excellent in performance. I stopped trying to get through winter with "all weather" tires, though, and use a set of Dunlop Graspics for the winter months.

Everybody I know who has run flats poor mouths them for a hard ride and low endurance.

  9. Josef2,

    any progress?

you're not alone on this one, just got the call from dealership that my "non navigation dvd" is stuck in the drive as well. after looking at it for 2 days the technicians say the only solution is to replace the drive. $3000.00

figure I'll get a 2nd opinion from a 3rd party installer, but suspect that I'll just end up trying to do it myself as well.

i'm not SO surprised that there isn't a manual eject option for the drive (like on a pc drive), but I have to assume there's a motor that can be rotated as BillyShaft mentioned.

I'm watching this one closely, hoping that somebody comes up with a solution.

  10. I saw the post from annah, and since I just picked up my first Lexus this past weekend without a backup, did a little research.

Found a couple vendors on ebay selling Smartkeys (averaged shipped $85 with cut keys), but one stood out. They'll send folks OEM remotes with uncut keys. Good for back up, and the best news is that they are under $100 shipped. FYI, you do not need the physical key for the backup if you don't intend to use it in an emergency situation. However, with these guys sending an uncut one, you can get it cut at a Locksmith.

FYI, I called Nally Lexus and here is what they said: New Retail=$335 Wholesale (from a buddy)=$268 Programming=about $40-50

I just ordered mine, and maybe I'll be able to take it to the dealership and play the card of, "I just bought it used and it's not working any longer", since it is still under warranty?? We'll see.

    Thanks, that's valuable information

  11. I recently replaced the run flats on my 06 went to Bridgestone Turanza Serenity -- what a differenct so much better ride and much quiter. They may not have quite the performance as far as cornering etc. but if overall comfort is a concern they are a good choice.

I too went to Bridgestone Turanza Serenity on my 06. What a huge difference between them an the Yokohamas that were OEM on the car. The Serenitys are quiet and much longer wearing.

  13. It sounds to me like a main part of the problem is with dealer attitude.

I had the opposite experience with another dealer. After I purchased the 2006 GS 300, i noticed that the paint started to peel around the sensors in the back bumper.

The dealer was very accommodating, and said that they had no knowledge of any paint repair having been done prior to that. But they gave me a brand new loaner, and had it repaired at their cost, with a perfect paint colour match up.

  14. I have a 2006 GS 300 with "all the bells and whistles" except for AWD. It has 78000 miles on it, and remains an excellent car. The dash rattles a little bit in extremely cold weather, but other than that, it's a quiet, beautiful car. In ordinary weather, there are no rattles. Lexus service at Lexus of Wayzata Minnesota, where I bought it, is superb. Since Minneapolis is my wife's home town, we're there a lot, so service there is no problem, even though I live in Ontario Canada.
