  1. The 06/07 had an "X package" with the 18" rims and front spoiler but I don't know if a sport package with a different suspension was available back then. If you want the smoothest ride possible, without sacrificing too much handling performance, get the standard car with the 17" rims. Of course, this is almost impossible unless you either get an AWD or order the car directly from the factory. I got rid of my "mandatory option" 18s and bought a set of the factory 17s and haven't looked back. Bear in mind as the car gets older and creakier, you may not want the ride characteristics of a sport package and/or 18" rims. In any event, have them run the VIN on their computer (any dealer, used car lot or body shop can do this) and it will tell you what options the car has.
  2. Sounds like you are low on refrigerant (vapor line freezing over).
  3. You could remove the CD changer from the dash and send it to one of many repair places on the web (usually about $120-$180) and/or install a DICE Silverline (~$100 through Buy.com) for an Ipod or almost any audio jack aux device; or a DICE Media Bridge (~$200) for a similar adapter that will work with an ipod, almost any USB device (including memory sticks) and almost any audio jack aux device. Look up DICE Electronics on the web. Keith
  4. Don't know about the short ones but you can get the regular replacement retractable mast off ebay for about $15.
  5. Oh, Dave............ this could mean 6" of the old antenna track broke off and is still down there in the motor area. When the antenna fully retracts, it interferes with the mechanism and makes the noise. Look carefully at the end of your old antenna track - does it look finished or does it look broken off? Keith
  6. I've NEVER heard of a dealer (Lexus or Toyota) dropping the transmission pan and changing the filter. They used to backflush the transmissions but now they just drain and fill. I'd be suspicious of this one - the mesh filters weren't available for several years, so I find it hard to believe that they have never seen one (that is, if they've ever even dropped the pan and looked)! Keith
  7. I doubt it, but you can probably find out from the following dimensions: Hub bore diameter Offset Bolt circle diameter/distance If all of these match up between the stock RX300 wheels and the LS400 wheels (what year?), then there's a very good chance they will fit (the brakes on the RX300 are smaller than the LS400, so clearance shouldn't be an issue).
  8. Well, it's probably too late now but for the benefit of others, these Lexus extended warranty prices are NEGOTIABLE! It's like buying a new car! For example, I got the 7 years/100,000 mile platinum extended warranty for $1260 (which is very close to their cost). Give it a try - you've got nothing to loose. Just figure they are marking up their cost on the warranty by 100% and go from there.
  9. Automobile dealers make from 2% - 10% profit on a new car. They make 20% - 50% profit on used cars! Do the math - there's plenty of room for negotiation. With the economy the way it is now and the "SUV hangover" from high gas prices last year, the RX3XX prices are way down. So don't be afraid to insult the dealer with a lowball offer - they will have insulted the car's previous owner far more! And it's not just Lexus - all car values have tanked - especially luxury models.
  10. I had a similar noise at "startoff" rpms in my 99 RX300 (120,000 miles). Sounded like an exhaust leak/heatshield vibration. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed a cracked manifold. Replaced the manifold ($900) but the noise is still there. Bottom line, be careful of this diagnosis - I don't know if the manifold really was cracked or if they just assumed it was because of the noise. I guess I'll never know!
  11. Try: http://www.factorylexusparts.com/ (it's actually Roseville Lexus, Sacramento) I've found them to be the cheapest for most Lexus parts. Don't just call the dealership parts department main number, though - they will rip you off!
  12. It's not "Lexus"---it's your dealer. Look at the Lexus website, in the owner's link. The Lexus policy is not as generous as most dealers provide. True, of course, but I use the two synonymously. Car manufacturers do give dealers breaks on service loaner cars, though.
  13. Yup, the holes definitely cost more! As to comfort and heating, I don't think there'll be any difference as that is most likely determines by the foam cushions. As an aside, are the heating and airbag connectors the same on the regular and coach seats?
  14. It may be in Canada but apparently it is not in the USA as far as lexus is concerned No car manufacturer in the US warrants OEM tires - they all explicitly refer to the tire manufacturers warranty and have done so for at least 30years.
  15. If you're not happy with the 17" wheel/tire combo and, especially, the 16" wheel/tire combo, then I think the car is just not for you. Messing with the spring rates and/or shocks will likely be a disaster (braking performance is also linked to the suspension chracteristics). Maybe you should just bite the bullet and trade it in on an ES350. :(
  16. So did Tire Rack say they could get this tire? Please post your initial thoughts on the tires if you get them as I'm interested in getting the Generals, too.
  17. Yeah, I have a 1 year old IS250 and my dealer is trying to avoid giving me a loaner car for service - says they only give you the loaner if you have to leave it overnight. I threw a sh_t fit and they gave me the loaner! Shouldn't have to do this, Lexus!
  18. Personally, I don't care for the perforated leather - if you spill anything it gets through the cover and into the foam. The plain leather is much easier to clean (cleaning materials also get into the holes in the coach leather covers). Just my $0.02 worth.
  19. Never had this problem but it definitely sounds like a fuse. Are they they type that you can see easily if they are blown or is it more difficult? If the latter, do you have access to a continuity tester or to a light bulb, a battery and a couple of pieces of wire to test the fuses? Is the power outlet in the back working?
  20. You can't compare the Consumer Reports numbers with the NHTSA numbers. Consumer Reports sends out a general solicitation to a random sample of its subscribers. NHTSA gets reports ONLY from people who experience problems (the populations and denominators of each are totally different). So while comparing vehicles within the NHTSA database or within the CR database is valid, comparing across databases is not.
  21. I think your offer of 10k OTD is very fair, given the body damage and the state of the SUV/gas market right now, They won't get more than that at auction (they'll be lucky to get what the were offered last time round - 7-8k). Stick to your guns and see what happens.
  22. Isn't you car still under the 4 years Lexus Warranty?
  23. Cool: Can you explain how you did it as I need to do the same with mine. Also, did this one come with the homelink transmitter installed or without it?
  24. You should hear the starter solenoid clicking if this is the issue.
  25. Well, remember, this is a Lexus CAR (a camry platform, to be precise) and it should ride like a car if all is well. Of course poor tire selection can make a car ride harshly and noisy, too. I've had Goodyear Integrity tires on the car since new (115,000 miles ago) and the car has always driven smoothy and quietly. I'd be inclined to go with the Alenza tires if ride quality and quietness are important to you.
