  1. Don't forget about the 60K service right around the bend. There are PLENTY of really nice LS400 cars out there. I would recommend getting a 95 or newer car with a few more miles on it for the same price. There are a ton on really nice 95+ LS400 cars out there to fit your budget. Maintenance history is more important than actual mileage, in my opinion. Good luck, George
  2. Any vendors out there selling suspension stuff for the LS400? My EVO and LX470 site has many folks ready to take care of your needs. I have found that many vendors have helped me diagnose issues with my cars and at the same time sell their solutions. It seems to be a win/win. Shared knowledge sells solutions. Regards, George
  3. My 96 LS400 had the same problem. I had my stereo repair shop fix it for about $125. The dealer wanted to replace the entire deck for something like $750. My 99 LX470 had the in dash 6 disc player which stopped working, that repair was about $450 at the same shop. If you have a good car audio shop, they can uauslly fix them, or know where to send the unit. You can also do a google search of fixing the lexus decks and do the removal and install yourself. I liked having my local shop warranty the repair and installation. The LS400 deck was a pain to take out. I watch him do it. The LX470 was amazingly simple. George

    Shocks

Thanks for the reply. I thought about getting under the car and spraying all the bushings with silicone spray. What do you think? George

    Shocks

Hi, My 1996 LS400 has a creak when going over a speed bump or any bump really. It's probably the bushings. The shocks were replaced at about 60K and the steering rack was recently replaced with new bushings. Anyone else have this issue? George
  6. You should see the Elk here in Arizona. I hunt in area one, here in AZ. This area holds the record bull elk in the USA. Check out my property at www.antlerridge.com. Great 4wheeling up there and here in Tucson, where I live. Regards, George

    Tires

It depends on what you want in a tire. The Michelin LTX M/S is hard to beat for a street/mild offroad truck. The nitto terra grappler and the BF Goodrich AT is best for street/offroad. Go to www.tirerack.com and enter your vehicle info. This will give you most of the tires available for your truck. George
  8. The winch is on. It fits inside the new bumper. George
  9. The LX470 will lift the truck 3" at the push of a button. Great feature. The tires are 285/75/16 BFG 8 ply AT's. Not stock size, but much better fit for the truck. I use Optima batteries and I keep a jumper battery pack in the truck. This allows me to have one battery with backup power ready if needed. George
  10. Tell me what you think. It was the only to get a winch installed. Nice fit and awesome bumper. http://home.comcast.net/~darling18/August_...pt_2004_161.jpg George
  11. Hi, THIS LINK DOESN'T WORK Check out the installed ARB Safari Bumper installed on my 1999 LX470. Go to this link. http://www.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/Alb...941/t_=14265035 George
  12. You have a bad switch. Both of mine went south and the dealer fixed it. It was under $100 for the part plus labor. They wanted to replace both mirrors. I knew it was the switch. Lexus was willing to cover 75% of the cost of both mirrors. Lexus USA called the dealer and ended up replacing the switch when they put some pressure on them. George
  13. I had a 1996 landcruiser and I towed a Mako 251 to Mexico. The transmission started going south at 104K. This is a heavy boat and I always kept the OD off. My 1999 Lx 470 seems to do better, but my understanding is that I have the same transmission that was in the landcruiser. I have my partner do most of the towing with his Surburban. George
  14. I purchased it from Man-A-Fre. www.man-a-fre-com They specialize in Landcruisers. I'm having my mechanic do the install. George
  15. My ARB Safari bumper and winch finally came in. Took over two months to get here from Australia. I'll post pictures next week. George
  16. I take my 470 offroad fairly often. Both in the White Mountains of Arizona and here in Tucson. It's a great truck. The clearance adjustments come in handy and the suspension is great for on-off road conditions. I have been stuck at the beach though, and don't get too aggressive in the mountains. I am usually the only truck up there where I go. Because of this I just ordered an ARB Sahara bumper with a 10,000 Warn winch, integrated fog lights and Hella off-road 3000 series lights. When this is installed, I will be more daring. The truck is better than my old 94 Landcruiser and far superior to my (sold) supercharged Expedition. Great trucks and nice to be in to boot. I might try a trip with the local landcruiser club, if they will have me. George
  17. Any of you installed the TRD Supercharger on your LX470? If not is there a link for reference on someone who did? Thanks, George
  18. I go 4wheeling up in Greer, AZ at elevations starting at 8500. There are many deer and Elk on the back roads and highways. I have seen many, but never hit one. Except with a bullet or arrow. I have a property up there, but live in Tucson. Not many LX470's are used for off-roading. They are very capable trucks. Going to Chiva Falls tomorrow. http://www.virtualtucsonmagazine.com/vtmse...ages/chiva.html My bullbar and winch is being shipped from ARB in Australia. It's going to take 8 to ten weeks to get here. Only $140 in shipping. With a winch, my wife will be relieved. Here is a link to my property www.antlerridge.com. Great offroading. No police, just back roads in the National Forest and a few game wardens. George Link to property in Greer, AZ. www.antlerridge.com Beautiful country. George

  20. ARB designs Bull Bars to protect the front of your truck when hitting Bull Kangaroos, small trees, bushes, etc. It is made out of stamped steel vs my plastic cover. The bull bar is also specifically designed to mount a 10,000lb winch while allowing the air bag deployment sensors to work. It is designed to handle the strain of winching a 6000lb vehicle out of anything. Thanks, George I grew up in Arizona and I don't recall coming across many kangaroos? :P Make sure you post some pics of the LX with the Bull Bar!!! I'm in Tucson. Are you still in AZ? George As far as bull Kangaroos go, this is what the guys at ARB told me. I guess they run over quite a few of them in the Outback. :chairshot: George

  23. Not true at all. Go to ARBUSA.com. Their bumpers are air bag compatible. The winch sits very low inside the bumper. The lights will have little effect on engine heat. The grill will not be blocked, and the fan does most of the cooling, as long as it can pull fresh air. ARB does extensive crash testing on their products. Thanks, George
  24. There was no damage. Dot a drop of water in the diff. The truck does awesome on the beach. I got stuck because I was launching a waverunner and a large wave came up and slammed into the back of the truck. When the water went out, the tires/wheels were almost buried. I should have flattened the tires, but I had a few margaritas in me and I tried to move to no avail. The front bumper was in the sand and I wasn't going anywhere. The water was rising with the tide. The only ARB bumper for the LX470 is the Saraha. This is also the only way to get a winch installed permanantly. It will take a couple of months to get here. I decided to invest in a winch vs getting a locker for the front. The winch will always get me out of trouble and I don't do any rock climbing or really servere 4-wheeling. The rear LSD really works well. I would have been stuck with dual lockers in this situation. George
  25. The tide was coming in, but almost at peak flood. A local called a tow truck to come in from Guaymas, about 30 miles away. The tow truck was an old dually with an a-frame winch. He couldn't get over the dune to get to the beach, so we linked about 75 yards of chain together. The truck almost flipped over trying to pull me out. His rear end just buried itself in the sand while doing wheelies. We gave those guys lots of beer. We finally got my truck out. Funny part was that the tow truck was totally stuck, and my landcruiser (Lx470) had to pull him out. I just ordered an ARB bumper with winch. This won't happen again. Regards, George
