  1. Yes it is. You can get it from Irontoad for about half the price as from the Lexus dealers. Another Q Bartkat: I never turn on the cabin recirculation button thingy. Should I still need to replace the filter in the glovebox or is there a separate filter for the A/C. Thanks.
  2. Hi!!: Like so many performance products, what you get out depned on how poor or bad the initial set up may be (headers are a good example) I have used K&N filters in the past and IMO, not worth it. I can see a gain on a poorly designed 5.0 litter V8 engine. On a 2.5 litter, reasonably designed it is a waste of time and money. Last one I threw away was when intentionally running a 2.0 litter Jetta with no filter at all and seeing no difference what so ever.
  3. :o That video sure brougth back memories, I would drift into turns and frequently hit cones and tire piles, loose points and usually not win anything after doing a little course for 2 or 3 minutes and I would even forget to breath That was the real fun after that I was noit interested in racing another idiot like me on the streets. If you are really into it, check out your regional SCCA. They organize Solo Racing events and more serious events you can advance to where you can apply this kind of skills. Check out an event and you'll be hooked. Drfiting in itself is just wasting rubber just like shooting arrows without a target to aim them to, useless. http://www.scca.com/home.aspx
  4. Hey 1990... thanks for the advice, I do agree that age could be a factor (50) but no injuries and I am not going to stop driving my IS!!!, in fact I already asked to be buried in it (unless a 350 finds me before then). My IS does not auto dim the outside mirrors (should they??) and the interior works, however seems to react too little too late. I noticed marginal improvement initially by lowering the stance of the mirror as if the sensor could get a stright view to the back where normally I would place it as close to the ceiling as possible but covering the front sensor made it react a lot sooner to approaching headlights. As far as tiniting windows, I suppose it may help but for now, the little tweek works great whithout the risk of a monkey with a blade next to my leather and also removing the door panel because of the tweeters. Try it you'll see what I mean.
  5. In my opinion. One of the very few things I did not like on my IS was the AUTO rear view mirror level of "insensitivity", in other words, it would not dim neither soon nor dark enough so Dear Mr. Lexus: How about adding an allways on option to the Off and (frequently useless) Auto mode,... or read on. Again, this is my opinion, perhaps age has made my eyes more sensitive?. Here's what I did. First I tried a little piece of electircal tape to cover the hole beind the mirror, next time you have lights behind bothering you even on AUTO, cover the back with your hand and you'll see the difference. If you place the mirror high, close to the "ceiling" is even worst and if you lower it, blocks my view and won't solve this issue. I don't have tinted windows so can't comment on that. Another option, the one I will keep from now on: find a leftover pice of tinted paper for windows, all you need is about 1 inch by half inch scrap piece, remove the clear backing, get it wet to activate the adhesive and place it. The improvemnent is noticeable, it won't affect daytime or when ther is no cars behind. The adhesive is very light and wont cause damage if removed. It increases the sensitivity of the mirror as this guy seems to work by contrasting the lights in front with the ones behind. Not necessarily the right approach since lights behind can bother a lot even if you are on a well lit street or at dusk. If sometimes you are bothered by lights behind you, try it.

  7. Welcome, you came to the right place for advice. There's allways a bunch of Lexus "experts" here willing to help. I'm not one of those experts but IMO don't think you need to worry much if for a while you replace only the fronts, you would not be any worse off by leaving them on waiting for the rear to wear. You may even benefit some by spreading the expense over some time too. Everyone telling you to put the better set in the back might be assuming that you will move the rears to the front and specially, the stor will strongly insist that you replace all four at once, I wonder why... I would try to make sure that whatever you buy now , you can later find the matching brand and model for the rear. I have bought from Tirerack.com in the past and was satisfied witht their price, selection and service
  8. I agree in one sense, reading this forum really makes me wonder of the quality overall, my wifes Volvo is just as "old" (about 5 months) and mine , Tungsten Pearl, but I would just call it light grey since there is no "pearl" at all to it is showing far more little nicks. No question in my mind, the Lexus paint is really thin and weak but in all fairness, I have not checked out a Pontiac or Hyundai Owners Club if there is one of course.
  9. OK OK OK. Just a thought. Hey and thanks for the link. How bout
  10. I am seriously considering a visit to a near by sign maker and asking for magnetic strips 3 or four inches wide to cover all four doors and in a matching color. At least to use when I anticipate a Valet parking or even when I park in a tight space sine these would be easy enough to put in place. I imagine they would hold up to wind and rain. Think i'mk nuts? A more daring solution could be using 3M vinil repar tape, I have used it before on another car and really stands up to weather for a long time and would be practically invisible but only about 1.5 inches wide. Am I nuts?
  11. I Have two comments for you: 1 Thanks, really it is one thing to do it and comment but pictures and all !!!! 2 You definitly need a new flat head screwdriver. :D :D I say we all pool some $$$$ and send you one, you earned it
  12. I found at Autopartswarehouse.com an Oil filter kit (element and O rings) for the 2006 and 07 IS 250, however for the 2006/07/08 they list three regular type Oil filters 1 by Fram and 2 by Hastings (never heard of them) Does that mean that 08s do use the regular type filter instead of the separate element and kit ? and that 06 and 07s can opt for a regular filter and avoid all this complication? Any opinions on wether this would be a good idea, also the hastings seem to differ in their height. I guess I would favor the tall type any thoughts on that brand? A couple of you here mention that their 08 350 does not hav a cao at the end, but do not clarify if they refer to regular type Fram like filter. What kind comes with my 08 250 and should I use a Fram filter if it comes with a reusable filter housing. Thanks
  13. I would stop waisting time and money at a dealer. I have had only but bad experiences from all. I bought my car cause I like it not because of the BS they tried to sell in terms of service. Once I have the free oil change done and if possible replace the dusty brake pads is good bye forever. If your car has a carbon problem after 2.5 years, they should pay for it. It os not like you bought a Hunday
  14. And do not do any of those under the sun or while the plastic is hot, I imagine Lexus must use better materials but just in case, don't do it. My theory is that when made wet, it cools down on spots unevenly, resulting in cracks after time. Usually I quickly dust off the dash and everywhere with one of those static friendly dusters. No other cleaning seems to be needed. I'll trow in an unrelated bonus tip here. The Lexus letters on the mat are white so last week while doing my daughters books with self adhesive clear bppk covering, cut two rectangular pieces to match the size of the lettering and covered them. You can;t see the difference and expect them to remain white for a long time that way.
  15. Right. the problem here is dust, the rear not having to work so hard does not have that issue.
  16. Great info but it opens three questions for me: My 08 does make a lot of dust, the TSIB seems to cover up to 07? I guess now you know were all the dusty pads are going to. I bought slightly used although Certified. Do I have any hope here? There seems to be a button to initialize the TPWS, but where is it? Every time I change tires, do I have to change the tire sensors? I don't think so, only initialize, right?
  17. Mine must be broken, "CAR WASH" and nothing happens, same with "QUICK", I haven't tried "SPEEDWAY" yet
  18. C'mon guys, you all went to school?, all these scams seem to be written in propper english until you read them carefully and note the extended effort on grammar, like the words don't flow. You can almost hear the strong accent in your head or should I say: You almost can listen to the strong accent in the inside of your head. Sometimes is subttle. Deffintley a scam, Have a day that is good for everybody I wish.
  19. Here in Florida, the insurance company has to waive the deductible on front w/s replacement perhaps in A2 is the same way. There is a TSB calling for a fix on the poping noise from the w/s, did you hit anything or did it just happen, my 08 pops loud every afternoon, more or less same block on my way home
  20. How about this, the NAV would be great for pizza delivery, and would practically pay for itself. Now seriouslly, I am all for electronics and gadgets but still can see when I will be needing one of those. Lat time I went to a place I had not been before was about three months ago and just in case, looked up the map online and done. Het it's a matter of taste entirely. I thought ht screen on a test drive I did looked kinda fuzzy? Also the case for A/C and radio screens on mine, one day Ill rub it with some fine plexiglass polish and let you all know.
  21. I strongly recomend a set of Wheel Locks, I like your ride but was that a pin stipe front to back? A LA Accord? No really I like your wheels too but the stripe uhmm I like the calipers too
  22. Welcome, I am not quite a senior member but I think you will be cutting it close. The Bridg Turanza is rated at 140 thred wear and that is rather low but that is way they are sticky, the heat from here won't help so remember enter wide, choose your apex and exit turns wide increasing the turns radius us the technique, don't brake unless necessary and easy on the throttle, also great for your mpg. Ah I almost forgot, check you lease, some will prorate the wear and charge for the rubber left behind or require you bring in your baby with new shoes. Also, celebration donuts are not recommended. :)
  23. THANKS! I was begining to worry. It did sound like lifter or valve ticking. I got my 08/250 with 2,500 miles on it and noticed the noise a few days later while at a McDs drive through and lowered the window.
  24. The things there from the factory are the headlamp washers, the power rear sunshade, and the 08+ coinholder You can certainly do the coinholder pretty cheaply :) I imagine the other two could be added but probably not at any reasonable cost for their usefulness Memory seats are on the door panels and -very- -very- expensive to add later because they use a different body ECU, wiring, etc I plan on sticking an U shape hanger for the cell phone and deffinitely if you ever wan't or need to install a switch for anything I would put it ther, that way you can revert back if necessary replacing the little cover. (On the coin holder, it holds 4 quarters and may sometimes rattle. Fix: stick a small round felt pad feet for coffee table things on one side).
