  1. The unit on my '01 is held in with 4 screws. 2 under tabs on the interior of the sunglass holder and 2 under the lens for the map/interior lights. Just carefully remove the lens to the light, patience is the key (and not my specialty). The unit will pop out and then just remove the connector. The latch for the sunglass holder is held in with two small screws. The problem with mine was the plunger for the latch had a small crack in it from where the roll pin goes through to the rear of the plunger. I think it probably came that way from the factory. I glued the crack and sanded and buffed the plunger. I also ran a drill bit, by hand, through the hole a couple of times so the roll pin would not put so much pressure on the plunger. Reassembled and now no problem. Good luck. Jim, thanks for the advice on how to remove the unit. I took it apart and found a crack in the plunger that latched the sunglass holder. A bit of super glue, sanding and buffing and it works like new. Saved $900+ and took less than an hour.
  2. Thanks for the tips. Will try the silicone. I tried the just moving back and forth but the motor, while seeming to run (making noise) does not want to move the mirror. I was afraid taking the mirror off might be a bit complicated. Not surprised at the $900 or so to replace. The mirror may stay in the non-auto mode for a while if the silicone does not work.
  3. The right side mirror on my '01 LS430 will not fold into the car as it is supposed to either on auto on manual modes. It seems a bit loose, but is solid when I am driving. Before I break down and take it to the dealer, are there any suggestions? Before I attack it with my handy screwdriver and other tools, how do I get into the assembly to see what the problem is, without causing more damage. I am not afraid to try, but I do not have a shop manual, so any suggestions are appreciated.

  5. Jim, thanks for the information and suggestions. I will see if I can get the control unit out (I am more used to working on motorcycles than luxury autos) and see if it is in fact repairable. I can't imagine (ok, I can) that a simple little piece cannot be replaced or fixed without replacing the whole unit. Thanks again. Rick
  6. I searched but no joy. My '01 LS 430 has a sun glasses holder where the home link and (if it had it, the Lexis Link) is. It is accessed by a small rectangular button that no longer returns to it original position without pulling it down, and then does not always stay in the closed position. I mentioned it to the dealer when he was servicing the car yesterday and after trying to clean it, with no success, he said the only option was to replace the entire head piece that includes the home link, lights and sun glass holder as a unit for $900+. Yikes. Any suggestions? TIA
  7. This advice is worth exactly what you are paying for it :D , but I believe you need a M6 1X20 or 1X15. The 1X15 for the front if you have the license plate bracket installed and 1X20 for the rear. I would drop by your local Lexus dealer and they will probably give you the bolts you need.
  8. :D Just picked up this week, a beautiful dark red (pearl black cherry??) LS430 with only 34K miles. Looks and smells like new. What a car!! New to the Lexus experience. I have been driving pick-ups and motorcycles (Goldwings so luxury is not foreign to me) for the last 20+ years, so this car is quite a treat for me. All I can say is WOW. This car seems perfect, but are there any known issues I should be aware of? See ya on the road.
