  1. No offense taken, if someone reads it that way, that is there issue not mine. I am having fun and adding comments, good or bad to this free service. This is the basis for a forum. Debating back and forward. Does everyone agree at times nope, am I being well within my rights yup. Am I "flipping out" nope. I stand my ground on issues that are incorrect or no one has the correct data. Or even posted there data. That being said it is time for some coffee.
  2. Same as this link http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...hl=cabin+filter and copied below I just went out to check mine, and my 1998 does NOT have a filter. It take around 5 minutes to open the conpartment and look. I did clean the conpartment wilth a 2-hp shop vac with a 5/8" OD hose duck taped over the hoses end. This would boost the suction and also able me to vac the inside. Nice and clean and I will order a filter. http://home.comcast.net/~94gsxr1100/es_filter.jpg http://home.comcast.net/~94gsxr1100/es_filter2.jpg I got these somewhere about 2 years ago.

  4. All mine ar 35 all around. I keep them the same since it makes my job quicker when rotating the tires.
  5. OH MY! LOOK WHAT I FOUND http://home.comcast.net/~94gsxr1100/toyota.jpg :D :D :D :D :D :D KIDDING
  6. The sticker is for the person that is well, not too “tool friendly” I should say. Why do that put sticker on mowers for fingers on the blade deal? Same reason. It is political since some mechanic, wrench turner, tells me 100 PSI and I do that I can and would sue him for all he is worth. That is what the world is coming too. Higher pressure DOES make the car run with less fuel. It that was not true, put 0 PSI in tire and see the MPG you get? :D Next, I do not know the tires size since it was not stated in the topic (only rim size). I do not know how that relates to a tire size? Again, I agree but I know what the state police has done for over 30 years and it has not caused a problem to date. Service reps and mechanics are not on my “high list” . My friends are mechanics and well I would not want them working on my cars, etc. I see what they do and talk about. Service reps are overpaid secretaries. From the ones at my Lexus dealer to when I had my Ford, they are not that bright. Anyone can answer the phone and use a computer. Opps, I take that back..not all can do that since my taxes support the un-working.
  7. I am not defensive at all, just that is it NOT a common misconception. When you email a tire place they state some low PSI due to political and budget reasons. On the flip side, you nailed it. The tire’s psi is different then moron sticker. You go by the tires and not the car. As I noted before the car does not know what size tires you have. As you stated, “The rating on the car is of course based upon using the same size tires and the same size wheel that came on the car, the brand doesn't matter” BINGO!!!!!!! That is 100% correct The sticker is only good if you have the size tire it states. Outside of this narrow field, the sticker is worthless. I do not think the state is wrong since it would endanger many lives on police officers. :P
  8. ***********Edited************** If you were right it would only be for a 2003 and up or Lexus is BS/lying to me, their customers with their online Q/A page for owners Also you state a 2003 when the original topic was a car 10 years OLDER then yours. The post you posted might be good for a 2003 but not my 1998 or the post at hand (1993). Moving forward, I would still disagree since I can find several anti-freezes that: · Phosphate/NitriteMolybdate chemical inhibitor system · non-corrosive medium (heavy duty chemical inhibitor.) · demineralized water · silicate-free, · Formulated Borate/Nitrite · 1) Again No one, not even Lexus can PROVE that Toyota Long Life Coolant benefits over other EG coolants; Yes ,you have a recommendation from Lexus for a 2003. I do not have that in my manual nor from Lexus online. Also neither you nor I know the TYPICAL PROPERTIES of Lexus coolant. All I have is what I found out. Based on that info, what I have read on this forum and others, it is not special. If it was, tell me the amount of ash, Specific Gravity, Pounds per Gallon , pH (Undiluted), Reserve Alkalinity (Undiluted), Freeze Point, oF (Undiluted) , Boiling Point,oF (Undiluted), Water, wt % (Approx.), Total Glycol, wt. %, Glassware Corrosion Test, Water Pump Cavitation Test, Aluminum Corrosion TEST, Simulated Service Test, Ash Content, mass % & Chloride, wt % (ppm). All these are in the ASTM spec I noted. Also as you noted, there is no chemically identical to Toyota Coolant. Well my friend what does the chemical property buy you? So far this goes back to #1 2) you stated Dex-cool has had some issues. As I am sure some is the coolants fault and some is the operator (major). I can’t comment on your picture since I do not know the complete story or data behind it. Hell, I can produce a photo in Photoshop and put a Lexus bottle by it. So that take the validity out of that. As you lastly noted, I am sure when you put a seach criteria like that in yahoo, you will get results only as good as the original search term. To a concerned owner, they would not look up “deathcool” but maybe Dex-cool is the more correct term. Also when you use the term “deathcool” I would not relay 100% on the info. Look at the sites it goes too. SW03ES--I LOVE debates!!!! :) :) :) There is case closed when the info came from the manufacture or “horses mouth” as I have posted Ding..... Ding, round 4 is over. Trust me I am not heated at all. I live for deabtes since this is what the truth comes out!
  9. Each to his own I guess. I guess the state of Massachusetts is wrong with that..... 32 to 35 is just fine and will not casue issues. i have been doing that since I coudl drive and my old man is TOLD to do that on all his patrol cars. As I still hold my ground on, the car does not know/care what size tires are on the rims. I can put very wide tires on stock rims. Then what? Being the pain, example here, if I have a stock car and put corvette tires and rims (size 50's) I guess I go by the car sticker for air? No way. Or I can put the widest tires I can find on stock rims. Do I still go by the car sticker? Nope. The car sticker is only for the size noted on the sticker (ie: rims and tire size) Both are integral to eachother. Go by the tire since that is what is rated PSI wise per that perticular tire brand and size.
  10. Well, I go by the tire since the car sticker is nothing. How does the car know what I have for tires? Also the 35 PSI came from a Mass State Police class I sat in on. It was proven the 35 you get better control & 40psi for the best control.
  11. I am not saying anything skperformance. I just posted at what LEXUS told me. I will post it again below. I will say this since there is some incorrect data. ========================================= 1) Monarch is wrong per Lexus. As noted in the below statement from Lexus, the manufacture, you can use ANY EG coolant, case closed. See paragraph #4 on the "Lexus letter". 2) Monarch stated there is only #1 other 100% silicate free coolant, which again is wrong. I counted several online from the people I buy from. Also many manufactures <1 PPM, they say zero. 3) Monarch nor Lexus can PROVE that using using Toyota Long Life Coolant does anything better then other. No one, not even Lexus can PROVE that Toyota Long Life Coolant benefits over other EG coolants; if it did, Lexus would recommend them. It would be dumb not to since it gets more $$$$ for them in the end, when people buy their coolant. 4) As long as the coolant meets or exceeds the spec I noted in the previous threads you are fine (GM spec 6038M or 1899, ASTM D-4985 & ASTM D-6210). These pertain to low/no silicates, alu rads and other chemical issues. Also Dex-cool is just fine. If you trap air in system, then sys is up. Most diesel rad are sealed and do not have a rad cap or "overflow" tank. skperformance ----It is nothing about being cheap. I just comes down to, no one can PROVE that Lexus coolants are any better then other EG silicate free coolants. Hell, before me there was not even a % brake down on this forum! Just follow what Lexus stated and you are 100% correct, per Lexus. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Mr. Burnickas: Thank you for contacting the Lexus Customer Satisfaction Department regarding your 1998 ES 300. Lexus recommends Genuine Toyota/Lexus coolant. Here are the ingredients: 85-90% Ethylene Glycol less than 5% Diethylene Glycol less than 5% hydrated inorganic acids and organic acid salts less than 5% water If the cooling system is being serviced, a 50% solution of this type of anti-freeze and water is recommended or a sufficient quantity to provide protection to -31 degrees F. **** If Genuine Toyota/Lexus coolant is not used, then the aftermarket coolant must be ethylene-glycol based. ***** Since coolant is poisonous if swallowed, we dye the coolant so that it cannot be mistaken for water. Otherwise, there is no special significance to the color choice. Aftermarket coolants can typically be found in yellow-green, blue, and orange. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  12. Please stop at any rig place to ask. Since you seem to know alot out this, you should be able to find these with very quickly. Again, nothing new. They are 100% silicate free and conform to the proper standards. I do not see Lexus conforming to them or you even posting them. Again, you say it is so special. When, it is not. If is so special they would have patents on it. I am not going to debate "to and from" since you have provided nothing. I at least provided what Lexus sent ME? Do you have a chemical break down or anything? What is the chemical braken (ash, etc) down of Lexus coolant? I can find these others very easy. If it is ok for a $300K truck, then it is ok for a $30K car. Unless Lexus advances in this area. ***You can use any EG coolant that is low silicate.
  13. I do my cars every 2-years also but the GSXR1100 and my diesel is once per year. The GSXR due to the high heat and the diesel due to the factor it cost more then a gas engine. Plus the fact, that diesels are more complex and $$$ to fix. I should install a coolant filter.
  14. If you run ANY EG coolant for 5 years, good luck. As I originally posted about Toyota Long Life Coolant, it is not special never has been. What is so hard to get???? :chairshot: Check out Heavy-duty anti-freezes that conform to a GM spec (6038M or 1899), ASTM D-4985 & ASTM D-6210. Again, Lexus is not special, nor has it ever been. They have been using the stuff (silicate free) for years in Peterbilt, Mach and International rigs/engines. If they comply to the proper GM spec it is fine for all alu and seals. I do not see any chemical properties in PPM, SG, specific volume of Lexus coolant, so I do not know what the % means (in practice). I know about what Lexus supplied since I supplied the data, but again not “out of the norm” here at all. Also you are incorrect with the silicate free. Again, many heavy duty coolants are silicate free. Hell I have been using the brand for over 10 years. Again, nothing new. I am not getting mad, but the point is that Lexus/Toyota is nothing special or new. It is just normal EG based silicate free coolant, big deal. Again, I could tell you 10 different kinds that are out there. Just do some homework or stop at a rig dealership. I just know this because diesels need low (<1%) to no silicate anti-freeze. I have known about this 10 years ago when I got my first diesel.
  15. The Black Bottle of Prestone is a low EG silicate coolant (heavy duty) that is great. The yellow bottle is HIGH silicates (which they do not tell you). This MIGHT cause drop out in coolant over time. Which wil slow high transfer rates and fluxs down the road. EG=Ethylene-glycol based ELC- Extended Life Coolant (ELC) which is basically a Dex-cool type product. **You can not mix the two fluids. Major no no EG= is change every 2 year or 30K miles like a normal person. ELC= is every 5 year or 150K miles (as you stated) Prestone Long Life is DEX-COOL and is NOT the same as the normal Toyota brand EG coolant.
  16. It is regular EG coolant with low/no silicate. Again nothing special since I can pick it up at an Diesel place. It will not have a Toyota/Lexus bottle. The 15,000-drain interval is per Lexus (on my CD-R and manuals). I also agree it is WAY to early. Moneymaker at best. I would say Prestone long life (black bottle) and Toyota are equivalents (or very close) to each other. Prestone yellow bottle sucks. I also do not know the chemical brake down of either, just what is on the bottles of both. I do not know Chloride (PPM), Ash, PH, Specific Gravity, boiling point and freeze point (undiluted), etc.
  17. steviej brought up good points. Yup, I must agree why a 70/30 mix? you are shotting yourself in the foot. I would not just go by color of a coolant. I know that Lexus uses regular coolant (EG) and a red dye. I went to my local diesel dealer, International, last night and talked to some people that I know from going there so long. EG coolants can be purple, orange, red, yellow, green & I saw pink last night-weird. The same colors for ELC, minus green and yellow. Some have more ash then others and more Chlorides then others. So, do not just go by color.
  18. monarch- Ok, I am not starting a war but the info you start is incorrect or wrong. See my post on Apr 27 2004, 09:27 AM. This post was from LEXUS and state, "If Genuine Toyota/Lexus coolant is not used, then the aftermarket coolant must be ethylene-glycol based." Lexus supplied the ingredients of their coolant, again nothing special about it. Also their long life coolant is not long life nor is it like an ELC. Replace every 15,000 miles per the manual is should be called “of Toyota Short Life Coolant” You can post pictures of this and that but again, bottom line. LEXUS summarized it all up in on document. Since you are using the same coolant, EG based, it will not affect water pump life or affectivity nor affect the heads, gaskets etc. Now if you switch to a ELC, then you need to flush system. So if you are right, then Lexus is completely wrong and is sending out documents that will cause millions in damages from incorrect info from the manufacture.....
  19. I would check the anti-freeze properties, thermostat and water pump to start.
  20. Good man!!!!! All I am saying is the you or anyone does not need to buy Lexus coolant. It is nothing special as per Lexus. But if you like what you do, keep doing it!
  21. All that you might get is dye fallout. That will not cause overheating. Green is not a case but will work as per Lexus. Also there is no way a 92 or 93 have ELC. Case in point, the regular EG coolant is the SAME as the expensive Lexus/Toyota collant just without the red dye. The freeze and boiling point is the same, no change. To close a no/low silicate antifreeze is all you need. Lexus is nothing fancy. Just geared to the "high ups" with more $$$$. This is what I posted to Lexus on 8/08/2002 (as stated online @ Lexus) Dear Mr. 22. You can use many brands but I use Fleetrite EG Low silicate anti-freeze. And yes, it is fine for alu rads. Been using it in all my cars, tractors, gsxr1100 etc. The rads are perfect. Again, many Lexus's have EG (regular coolants not dex-cool or ELC coolants). it is just dyed EG coolant per lexus. Not many have ELC (long life coolant). I know all about ELC and regular based coolants. Plus as long as you just a good EG low/no silicate you are fine. Also use only DW. No hope needed here, it works and I asked Lexus about this topic 2-years ago.
  23. for???? Oil tests? I just drained, flushed all fluids this weekend.
  24. My 98 came with Red collant but it is not special per lexus. It is just normal EG coolant but Toyota/Lexus puts dye in it for some reason. So, any EG collant is just fine. ELC is red, orange and purple (and other colors). Regualr EG collant is always green or yellow. Also I would not just go by the coolant color. Again Lexus uses Red dye in their normal EG collant. FOr my car, you can mix the Toyota Red and regualr EG collant. All the same except for the dye. I asked Lexus this very question 2 years old.
