  1. Hi Tom, GDixon solved the problem for us (see my reply) but your tip is fantastic! We have a Best Buy in the city nearby and I'll keep your suggestion in mind for the future. Thank you!!! Vanessa
  2. Did you check the fuse box for a blown fuse? Sometimes that accidentally happens on an install. If a ground wire is just slightly touched by a hot wire it will blow a fuse in an instant. After the fuse is verified to be OK then another check might be to investigate the wiring harness where the hitch's electric wire connects by the driver's side wheel in the cargo area. Use a 12V test light to see if the pigtail in the car's wiring harness works correctly with the test light. For instance, with the turn signal on, try different sockets to see if one of them lights up. Make sure the test light has a good ground. Also try it with the brake light on. If the test light will not light up then you have a warranty issue with Lexus and it shouldn't cost a cent to get it fixed. If the test light glows then plug in the hitch wire and try the receptacles that are on the hitch. That should diagnose where the problem lies. Having a hybrid or not shouldn't influence this trailer light problem. Hi GDixon. I'm very appreciative of your help and I'll post a response as soon as we've tried the things you've suggested. I'll be back a.s.a.p. I have my fingers crossed that it could be something as simple as a fuse. That would make me VERY happy. Thanks again, Vanessa I'm back! GDixon you are my hero of the day (besides my husband, of course. ;) ) When we couldn't find anything else wrong, my husband checked the turn signal, brake lights, and other fuses never expected a 'towing' fuse existed. He was pleased to find the problem but annoyed that he didn't look for such a fuse. In his defense, we've been moving equipment and such from a business we've sold to our home and he's exhausted. The last thing he needed was for this trailer lighting problem to come up with everything else going on. After getting your message, I grabbed the owner's manual, found the fuse box, and found a blown 30A fuse. Hooray! Sure enough, that fuse was the problem. We didn't have a replacment 30A but put a 25A in that was in the fuse box cover. I'll be getting an assortment of fuses tomorrow and will replace the 25A with a 30A tomorrow evening. We're calling it a night with the moving and we are much appreciative. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Vanessa

  4. Look at LauraW's post on "Best Ipod integration for 2008 RXh"... scroll down and she mentions this,if I remember correctly, after talking about other technical info....good luck , this forum is great for things like this. I have always gotten great advice and info from the good people on this site. Rey Thanks Rey. I took a look at Laura's post and found the section about the hitch. Her install went fine so I don't know what the problem could be with our install. It was perfect install from start to finish. Somewhere something is missing but we have no idea what.... We read somewhere about a converter but my car has the trailer prep package, we also read about a fuse needed but no additional information was provided. We'll probably end up paying the dealer the money we thought we were saving by installing the hitch ourselves... that's too bad but I need the lights! Thanks again! B) Vanessa
  5. Hello 400h friends, My husband finished installing a new hitch this weekend on my 2008 400h. My car has the towing prep package and everything was a snap. The wiring harness fit the pigtail tightly and the instructions were easy to follow. The problem is the trailer lights won't work - no blinkers, brakes - nothing. Everything seems fine otherwise and we can find no reason the lights won't work. We even connected the trailer to my husband's truck to ensure that the lights on the trailer are not the problem. The trailer lights worked fine with his truck. We've hauled boats, flatbeds, horse trailers... you name it and my husband has always done the trailer wiring himself. Needless to say, he's particularly frustrated at this point, especially since this is our first hybrid. This hitch is a new Toyota product that I bought direct from lexuspartsonline.com, based on the recommendations of others in another forum. It fits beautifully and we are very happy with the hitch itself. The wiring harness that came with the hitch seems straighforward and is identical to photos others have included in the forum... We just finished reassembling the parts that we removed to install the harness. We left the harness attached inside. I'll take my car to the dealer in the next day or so to see if they can get the lights working but I am not at all happy about having to take my car to the dealer for something like this. Especially if it's something minor. Plus, besides taking it to the dealer, I hesitate to take my someplace where the workers may be unfamiliar with hybrids. So, here I am, asking for help from you. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help, Vanessa
  6. Well there is absolutely no change in the basic body of the RXes especially in regards to the windows so some vendors just haven't added the 08 to their description but the vents fit all of our new RXes. But I am glad that you got the whole shebang and look forward to seeing it all together. I'm not sure if I want the bug deflector but I might want the sunroof deflector. Rey I didn't know about the body style being the same. This is my first Lexus so thanks for the info. I was also uncertain about the bug deflector but my windshield currently shows evidence of a need thanks to the insects in this area. I also have about a mile of gravel road to drive on to get to my home so I worry about gravel chips from cars (and kids on four-wheelers) ahead of me. I am not thrilled with the 3M adhesive attachment for the bug deflector but I couldn't find one that mounted with screws. At least all of the items will match so I guess that's a plus. Are you a dealer by chance? I noticed you said 'our new RXes'. If so, sorry about the royalty check comment earlier. No offense intended. :) Much appreciative! Vanessa
  7. Well, I can always return the ones I purchased from WeatherTech I suppose. I had vent visors on my Tahoe and I do recall that there was a noise factor but I didn't know there were any available that were more flush with the car plus I thought the noise was just because of the design of the window frame on the Tahoe. Can I only get the Toyota Japan ones from a dealer or do you have a source that you might be able to give me a link for? I appreciate the info and I'll think about this before installing them. Thank you RXREY! Vanessa
  8. Hi all! I couldn't find the window deflectors on eBay or Amazon for my year so, being the impatient woman that I am, I ordered the side window deflectors, sunroof deflector, and bug deflector from WeatherTech for $264.85 including ground shipping. After I have them installed, I'll take photos and post them here. I also inquired about mud flaps from WeatherTech since none were listed for my '08 400h. Other than that, I'm keeping my eye out for two nice license plate frames. The ones I have were installed by the dealer and have their name on them. Since I'm not getting a royalty check.... I choose not to give the free advertising... any way, who wants commercial plate frames on their Lexus?! B) Hitch update - I ordered the trailer hitch from lexuspartsonline.com on July 5, based on Alphadog's referral. I paid extra for two day shipping but the hitch didn't arrive until today. No biggie but still, I did pay for two day shipping and the hitch was in stock when I placed the order. It is a genuine Toyota part with the wiring harness included for $243.80 including shipping. No ball but I already have one so I don't care that it's not included (it says included on the listing). My husband is installing it as we speak so I'll let you know how it goes/looks/works. Here's the thread with Alphadog's comment and other replies about the hitch: Aphadog's hitch thread. Make special note about the part number. From Alphadog, "The main thing to know is that when you are on the website, you have to search the OEM part # PT228-48045 to find the $212 base price." Overall, in spite of the problems I've mentioned, I believe this is a great deal! I still have the fan in mind so if I buy one, I'll post a comment about it. Pretty soon, I'm going to need a truck to haul around my Lexus with all of it's accessories! :D Once again, you've all been a fantastic help! Thank you, thank you! Vanessa

  10. Hi all. Thank you so much for the great responses! I think I'll go with the vent visors that you've suggested and consider the fan for later. I remember seeing an infommercial about it awhile back. It might be a good investment for me. I'll also use the remote to roll the windows down and open the sunroof. I vaguely remember the salesman mentioning something about that and I'll check the manual to get more information. With the information that you've each provided and maybe some window tinting, I should be 'cooler' in no time. But then, hey, I'm already cool driving a 400h, right? Note to self: be more humble... ;) You're all awesome! I'll be back when I have more questions... Much appreciative, Vanessa
  11. Hi all, I'm in the humid, hot but otherwise wonderful midwest. Recent rains and my new Lexus 400h (2008) are not coexisting well. I need vent visors so I can leave my windows cracked to let the heat out without letting the rain in. Where's the best place to buy these? Any thoughts on the pros and cons of adding them? Thanks in advance for the help. B) Vanessa
  12. Rob, Did the $212 OEM part come with the wiring harness? I'm looking to add the hitch to my RX 400 and wanted to verify beforeing ordering at the site you quoted. Thanks, Jason New member here... I just ordered the $212 hitch with harness mentioned above. The web site that selling it is flaky, but hopefully the order goes through. I will confirm if this deal is as good as it sounds once I receive the package... Oh and shipping is only $21 - for 50# hitch! Who am i to argue. :) Hi Alphadog, I'm also a new member here and also new to Lexus. I am curious if you received this hitch and if you were pleased with it? Were there any problems? Was the harness the right product? Have you tested the hitch by pulling anything? Sorry for all the questions but I'm very interested. I've just purchased a new '08 400h and may wish to order the same hitch & harness. Thanks to everyone for the advice and help.
