  1. I can't remember if the recommended maintenance schedule regarding transmission fluid changes for my departed gen 1 LS400 was the same as for the 2000 LS400 I have now (I think it was), but my 00 LS maintenance manual recommends changing the transmission fluid only every four years or 60,000 miles and only if the car is operated under severe operating connections. It's probably overkill, but I have always had the transmission fluid changed on cars with automatic transmissions every 30,000 miles. Do you have the maintenance manual that originally came with your car? i do and i will look. thnx.
  2. this has probably been discussed, but mine still looks and feels clean, but i haven't changed it in a year. should i change it?
  3. (hope there's no cops on the forum)!
  4. :D ahhhhh, just couldn't resist a little speed as i cruzed the other day thru northern new mexico...wide open...won't admit how fast i went...but i was very pleased with the performance....had just changed my oil and thot i would ride the mesa into southern colorado...beautiful mnt passes...thought i would burn out some carbon. cheap gas prices...aren't we happy!
  5. when my water pump went out about a year ago, i didn't notice any leakage on the ground at first. coolant dissappeared from the reservoir very fast, tho. i also thought my head gasket was going, but it was just the water pump thank goodness. finally it started to hit the ground, then it gushed. lots of sweet smell prior to it all.
  6. i use high grade fuel 91. i've only noticed it since the weather has gotten colder, once the engine is warm, it is fine. thanks blacktop
  7. mine does that too, very unstable startup. i have just noticed it this winter. once it is warm, it is fine.
  8. my tape deck doesn't work- but my stereo works great. could it be a fuse?
  9. YOu know...an internal leak makes more sense now that I think about it...that's probably why I never could SEE any fluid leakage evidence... You know, as a matter of fact, after the car stopped (and come to find out later, he hit a tree, no wonder we had so much damage--he couldn't see over the airbag during the actual accident..) the car was actually still running when he came to a stop. And after turning it off to wait for the police to come, and then trying to get the key out to wait for the wrecker, it actually DID fire right back up again! Funny, huh? U CAN'T SEEM TO STOP THESE CARS. MINE CONTINUED TO RUN AS ALL THE OIL DRAINED OUT OF IT AFTER A BAD OIL CHANGE. DIDN'T SEEM TO HURT THE ENGINE AT ALL. I MUST HAVE AN INTERNAL LEAK TOO- I CAN'T SEE ANY ANYWHERE, BUT IT SEEMS TO BE LOW.
  10. 0, so sorry to hear that...knowing lexus ...it'll probably still run.
  11. Oh please do! My boss suggested the same...I'm not sure how bad my leak is...I'm having to put more fluid in aproximately once every week to 10 days, and I can't actually SEE any evidence of the lost fluid, so I guess it has to be a small one...and there have never been any wet spots or anything under the car...but you never know...I'm watching the fluid level to make sure it doesn't run dry and basically just kind of waiting around for my husband to call someone to look at it and let me know for sure...if the lucas fluid works, I will get some and see if it helps.. has anyone else used lucas additives? a friend used the transmission add and he said he realized a difference the 1st time..transmission drove much smoother. i have been adding the gas treatment, and i do notice a smoother ride, better mileage. i just added some ps additive, it is really thick stuff- hope it doesn't hurt anything.
  12. i also have had ps leak- but too little to worry about yet. a friend told me about lucas ps fluid, and he said it works great to stop the leak. i have tried some- will let u know what happens.
  13. beautiful!!..same color as mine...i have dark blue leather inside..but the white is lovely.

    Leak

another question- are there any other hoses that are connected to the radiator?- maybe down below? i've got some leaks!thanx
  16. have a coolant leak on the big hose to the left of my battery, the one hooked up to the radiator, underside, middle. is this the radiator hose? ummmm could be the smaller metal hose underneath it...what is that called? thnx.
  17. I think I almost get the same mpgs as my 4 cyl toyota truck- which is very good. I have been using this Lucas fuel additive, and it is great.
  18. not a mechanic, but sounds like you just have a bad sensor on your overflow tank. mine was doing the same thing- put in a whole new tank and sensor unit, and it is fine now. - about $300. question- for someone- is there any other sensor that would effect the coolant?
  19. thanks everyone. god, the hood is heavy without them. 1st one went and then the other. i hate to spend any $$ to replace them tho.... :( !!
  20. seems like my hood springs??--that hold up the hood- on the sides- have finally gone out. boy, the hood sure is heavy!! can I fix them?...
  21. thanks...it is a brand new tank/cap. that is probably it.
  22. 0 no...I just got my coolant changed again, and I think they filled it too full. Is it normal for it to throw some out/ the hose or something? Leak under TB area. not alot, but I have never seen that before.
  23. :D nice- those look really ''cosmic''.
