  1. Thanks for confirming. I would replace the brushes, I just don't have the time due to my work schedule, so I'll replace the alternator. The car does not have a PS leak, though I saw that the pass. side valve cover gasket is starting to weep.
  2. Just trying to confirm that the alternator on my 98 ls has died. Charging voltage with lights and ac on was at 9.8 at idle, went up to mid 13s at around 3000 rpm. The charge indicator comes on only when the voltage drops below 9.8. With the lights off, ac on voltage is at 11.5. The car has 124k miles, and no PS leaks. I replaced the PS pump last year, because it was noisy, but not leaking. The battery is OEM and a year old. I also got the VSC indicator yesterday while stopped at a light, which prompted me to check the charging system. Voltage on my 735i was at 13.6 at the same conditions as above. So this leads me to believe that the alternator has died.
  3. If you are talking about the suspension airbags then I would imagine that the compressor is still in the car. As IS400 said above safety airbags do not use a compressor.
  4. I have removal and installation instructions for the driver side cam sensor. Removal is not hard, but it will take some time. I would also check the wiring like Blake mentioned above.
  5. Hopefully this helps. Here are the check procedures for the camshaft sensors and the crankshaft sensor, as well as a troubleshooting list. From your original post, it sounds like there is no spark. The camshaft sensor and the crank sensor can cause the problem you are experiencing. The crankshaft sensor is located behind the crankshaft pulley.
  6. From what I've seen, I think the pattern can change a lot when HID kit bulbs are put in a non HID light unit. The reason I've read about is that HID kit bulbs usually don't produce their light in exactly the same position in the housing as the non-HID bulbs that were designed for the light housing. The worst HID kit installation I've ever seen was a few week ago on a mid 90s Toyota Camry. Intense light was going everywhere except where it needed to go -- can't believe that police hadn't intervened but maybe the guy had just installed the HID kit. Good point, it does depend the type of bulb the car uses. The filament on some bulbs is offset from the center... Thats why HID kits are illegal.
  7. Its not just the LS, many other manufactorers suffer from the same problems. Lincoln is another example.
  8. The pattern is not going to change. The problem is that HID lights produce too much light which halogen housings can not distribute properly, creating a lot of glare.
  9. They do this in order to make you notice that there is problem. If they made it so that the ride is smooth, you may not notice that there is a problem with the suspension.

  11. HID kit will not be a good idea. The halogen and hid lights have completely different optics inside, though they look the same on the outside.
