  1. My stalling problem simply disappeared four months ago, and the SC430 is running great! I'll report back if the problem recurs.
  2. I asked a mechanic on driverside.com about my SC430 stalling problems. I just received this response from him: That could be a few different things. First to check: air filter, clean MAF (mass air flow) sensor, clean throttle body. Check MAF sensor and TPS (throttle position sensor) readings. Check fuel pressure (could be bad fuel pump). Any of these could be off and not set a code.
  3. I searched for additional information on changing the fuel filter, and I located some information on the SC300 which may be similar. Take a look at this link: http://www.clublexus.com/forums/maintenance/116905-how-to-change-the-fuel-filter-sc300.html I would still like to hear about your experience in replacing it since I also have the 2002 SC430 year model. I'll follow your example and replace mine after you have finished yours.
  4. I appreciate your thoughts, and I would be interested in how to replace the fuel filter if you receive a reply. SInce I wrote the post, I have driven the Lexus very little. Surprisingly, it hasn't stalled again so I'll hope that any debris in the tank, the fuel line, or the filter might have passed through (doubtful) or could have dissolved into smaller pieces which no longer restrict the fuel flow. It is likely to me that it will recur. If so, and I find a solution, I'll post it.
  5. I purchased a used SC430 with 95,000 miles about a year ago. During the summer, it began to stall, similar to vapor lock, during acceleration and even with steady driving. It also stalls occasionally upon initial start from a stop. This has continued, regardless of weather, and it is intermittent. I have found that it can be overcome by releasing the gas pedal for a few seconds, then depressing it again. The stalling has never caused the engine to stop completely and idle is fine at all times. I would say the frequency of this hesitation averages about six times for a 20 minute drive. My wife recently drove it to our new home. I forgot to mention the stalling to her, and she said it caused her to drive quite some distance at 45 mph even with the accelerator almost floored. I suggested taking her foot off of the accelerator for a few seconds, and this also worked for her. I had thought it might be a fuel filter, but I understand these are almost lifetime filters, can be difficult to change, and we have only 97,000 miles on the vehicle at this time. I have tried different fuel octanes and used a can of water remover, all with no change to the stalling. I would very much appreciate suggestions on what might cause this and how to remedy it.
  6. Were you able to resolve the severe hesitation problem? If so, what did you do? I have a similar problem on my 2002 SC430.
  7. My wife and I would like to purchase a good used SC430 upon retirement. Which one do you feel is best to consider purchasing? For example, we prefer safety, so improvements may have been made in a particular model year. We would appreciate any suggestions, other than safety, as well. Thanks for your thoughts!

  9. We have a 2003 Lexus RX300 with about 100,000 miles. The timing belt and plugs were replaced recently by our local Toyota dealer since the nearest Lexus dealership is about 1.5 hours driving distance. Shortly afterward, the Check Engine light, VSC and TRAC Off lights came on. I had two parts dealerships check the codes which were PO441, PO442, and PO466. I read the posts on these, discovered the fuel cap was loose and tightened it. The lights stayed on for several days, and I disconnected the battery cable for one minute and replaced it. The Check Engine light went away, but the VSC and TRAC Off lights always return as soon as the vehicle is moved in drive or reverse. I took it to our Toyota dealer to check for a loose hose which they might have caused. They found nothing out or order and connected it to their computer, but found no readout problems, possibly since the Check Engine light was off. They attempted to recalibrate the computer, feeling that this would correct it, but it would not take their command. They recommended having the Lexus dealership recalibrate it since their Toyota Highlander commands may differ and offered to have their mechanic talk with the Lexus service office. I called the Lexus service office and explained this. They said they do not talk with anyone and will have to check it with their computer. The cost will be $100 to $200. I said it’s doubtful that their computer will show anything and asked if they could simply recalibrate it. They said that something has to be wrong with the vehicle if the lights are on and they must diagnose it. I’m willing to try the recalibrate procedure, but when I attempt to access the URLs shown in this post, my computer’s antiviral software advises they are reported attack pages. Perhaps there is a safe guide page to accomplish the calibration procedure. Another option is to have a local mechanic check for a loose hose, replace the gas cap with a new one, replace the PCV valve, and begin diagnosing the EVAP canister. What is most reasonable to do?
  10. Bluestu, Thanks! I'll contact Mike.
  11. Bluestu, There are some Ebay and other companies which sell the Lexus RX300 keys which my lovely wife occasionally loses, but I am unable to locate Rocketkeys and I haven't found a seller who provides the programming directions. All that I located say that you have to use your dealer to program the key and you have to have it cut. I called our dealer, and they want $75 to program it, and they can't cut it. The dealer provides key cutting information to Lexus, and the key is cut by Lexus and returned to the dealer for programming. Uncut keys with the remote electronics are available on-line from about $70 and up. Any suggestions?
