  1. How did the engine catch fire? Insurance? I really don't know. The best guess is left over cleaner. But it happened so quickly. It very well could have beem electrical.
  2. My fight is done. Some of you have read my posts and replied, thank you very much. But, my lexus has died. My starter was dead, so I had to what a few weeks to get a new one. So in the mean time I thought I would clean the engine up a bit. took off the valve covers, and the throttle body, all the little small things in the engine compartment, and cleaned them up and threw on some high heat paint. a couple of the injectors were bad so I bought some new ones and also bought some new o rings for the rest. I got the new starter. put that in put everything back together. checked and triple check every line, bolt and nut. Put a fresh battery in started it up, and 10 seconds later FIRE WAS ENGOLFING THE ENTIRE ENGINE. No fire extingusher so had to call 911. But it was going to be too latethe cracked the windshield. fried just about everything on the left hand side of the engine. It was and is not pretty. don't know what the cause was and I really don't care. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who replied to my posts.
  3. Computer is located under the passenger side kick panel, you have to pull back the carpet and remove the cover plate. I removed the glove box as well just to have alot more room to work.
  4. The lean code and flooded plugs don't seem to go together. The new fuel pump and ECU would seem to direct attention away from the fuel supply. Flooded plugs should indicate fuel isn't an issue...I'd look at ignition components serving the flooded plugs. Assuming the wet plugs are restricted to the left bank, logic would say it has to be a component common to those particular four cylinders. Ignition wires for the entire bank shouldn't all go at the same time, so focus on the distributor wire, distributor components or electronics for that bank of cylinders. Same thing happened to my SC4, lexus replaced the left ignition coil. They said it is a pretty common failure. Well I won't be doing any of that too soon, the tech I was using blew out my starter. So I get all the instructions to do this from http://www.lextreme.com/starter.html So I go out and buy a 14mm gearwrench wrench $21.00 because this guy says it will make the job alot easier. Well it doesn't the gearwrench won't even go over the bolt, it's too close to the engine block. I got one bolt off, but the second bolt that is next to the egr pipe is a !Removed!, does anyone have any info on what they have used. The bolt is also starting to strip because it's rusted on. I've used penatrating fluid on it several times. Any help would be great.

All the plugs are being flooded. The problem is the injectors are constantly pulsing fuel and causing the flooding, the injectors are not firing corectly, the tech is going to try to oem them today if he can get the car warm enough.
  6. My 92 SC400 will crank, fire, start and run for a few minutes, but then dies. The tech is telling me he is getting a lean code on the left side of the engine. And the plugs are flooding, every time. It has a new fuel pump and fuel pump ECU. could there be something that we are missing. could the intake be clogged. Any help here
  7. Is it possible to flood a fuel injected engine? I always thought it wasn't. someone is telling me differently. Any thoughts?
  8. Yes that was me, I am still having the same issues, I am expecting a new crank position sensor today, and i'm replacing the IAC valve as well, from a 90 LS400 that was wrecked last week. as soon as I get those replaced I will be checking the timing, the timing belt and water pump are 4 months old, so I hope I can get this done. If anybody has an more suggestions please don't hesitate. thanks Tonyw, Did you get your car fixed when you changed out the IAC valve? My car had similar problems as yours. I changed the fuel ECU, the fuel filter, ran Seafoam through the gas tank, and have been filling up on Chevron Supreme with Techron. So far for the past few months, I have been able to start my car each time. However, it is a little odd, but my first start sometimes acts likes it almost won't start but when I let go of the start switch the eng catches and runs without any further problems. All subsequent starts are normal. Haven't been able to figure it out, but since it runs fine I haven't thrown any more money into the car. Been thinking it was the cold start injector or circuit, just a guess. For history purposes, my car snapped a timing belt, so I had the timing belt, water pump, plugs, wires, caps, and rotors replaced at the same time. Then the problems started. The car wouldn't start like it used to...... and the rest is what I just mentioned in the earlier paragraph. No I have not gotten mine fixed, I can't fiure it out, with a fresh battery in and on the first crank it seems like it wants to start, it turns over runs for second then dies. I don't know.
  9. yes your car was in limp in mode and when you took out the relay it reset the ecu wouldnt be suprised if it happens again Yup, it happened several more times. Now resetting the relay won't fix the problem. I took off the left rear passenger side panel to access the Fuel ECU and took off the connector and reset it, and the car started fine again. I ordered a new fuel ECU from Park Plano Lexus Dealer in TX. Hopefully the new fuel ECU will solve my start problems. Man an i was bitching about my fuel pump.... Im kinda lost lol now sounds like a job for the dealership! been to the dealership they could not do anything. Just a bunch of overpayed oil changers. HELP!!
  10. Does anyone know of anywhere but the dealer to get the 150 amp fusible link?

  12. I actually gave it a real hard thought on going with a black finish, because it would hide any brake dust, but if I don't get the car running it really won't matter, because I will just part it all out.
  13. mine is busted also. does your head unit turn on without the amp? Plus are you blowing the radio fuse under the hood or kick panel? yes it turns on but no sound. fuse keep blowin off too so i dont know what to do. did you do something with your radio yet? No I haven't done anything it's the second radio for this car, I am going to try to find either a used one, or someone who could fix this one, the last thing would be to buy an aftermrket and intigrate it into the system.

  15. Does your sc300 have the factory amp? here might be your problem, even though they are the same years, and just about everything on and in them look the same, lexus made them very different in alot of ways. why I don't know. But those differences are there in the wiring. do the plug wires colors match up with the ones you pulled from the sc400? if so you will probally have to splice into them if you really what it to work. but I would definitly get the radio you want to install tested before you do any cutting.
  16. This really didn't take that long to do. The car is not at my house so I did them one at a time. the longest part was sanding them down, there were a lot of deep surface gouges but with a drill and steel wire cup about 20 minutes per wheel. there is some tutorials on youtube, and on duplicolors website on how to's, that's what I went bye. I think there are 4 colors and a clearcoat, diffenetly do the clearcoat it is whorth it.
  17. Here's the thing with these cars, if one thing is bad or not working properly, the whole car doesn't run right. I have done just about everything a person can do to my 92 SC400 to no avail. I have changed the ignitors, ignition coils, plugs and plug wires, MAF sensor, TPS sensor, Distributor rotors and caps, camshaft position sensors, fuel filter, fuel pump, engine ECU 4 different ones, fuel pump ECU, EGR valve, and I just ordered a crankshaft position sensor. had the alternator checked, cleaned the fuel injectors, cleaned the throttle body and upper intake, did a complete wire check and fixed some cracked wires, its got a brand new timing belt and water pump, and a new battery, I can crank the engine and it will turn over but still does not run. I have had this car at a lexus dealer 3 times and they could not fix it any time. I think it's mostly because of it's age. If you don't know anything about this car you better learn fast or it's going to come back and bite you very hard. And its not cheap. I have learned this the hard way. I would love to have this car running, there are alot of possibilities with it, but I don't think its going to happen.

  22. Where in Indiana are you from? I can't find any yard in Indy that has a sc400 or 300. Do you have a pick of the back of the radios. I bought one on Ebay that came out of a 95 SC400 and I have a 92 SC400 and it works fine. everything hooked up fine.
