  1. I have another question but thought I'd start another post since its completely different that my previous post. I saw a picture of an IS w/ the Halo headlights such as the BMW's have. It looked pretty cool. I searched for that topic on here and couldn't find anything.

What is everyone's opinion? Has anyone installed these on their car? How easy is it or should it be professionally done?

Attatched are the pics that I found although I forget where i came across these.

    You probably found those here:

    Halos for ISxxx

I was just looking at that yesterday. It's kinda cool, but aside from what Gaugster said about the copy factor, it doesn't make sense to me to risk permanent damage on lights that are so expensive to replace.

  2. The high pressure fuel pump mounted on the valve cover (cam lobe driven) makes a loud ticking. The high pressure injectors also make a more obvious click than standard injectors.

Thanks very much for the extremely thorough explanation! The last line really summed it up for me, but I learned a bit about DI that I didn't know before.

  3. Hello everyone.I am new to this forum site.I just brought home my new 08 IS 250 AWD today. Before we left the dealer today we had the engine running while the salesman was showing us all the thing we needed to know about this car .It was and still is making a fairly loud ticking noise while idling. The salesman says its normal but I think it sound CHEAP.When showing off our new car to our family the ticking is the first thing they notice.Does anyone else have this problem or is it NOT A PROBLEM ?Thank in advance,Mike.

I have a two week-old 250 that does the same thing. It sounds more like a valve train noise to me, and makes it sound like an old Toyota Corolla with 200k+ miles! I am put off by the noise, and was about to take it back to the dealer to inquire.

Can anyone tell me how the Direct Injection makes a ticking noise like a sticky lifter? It is pretty pronounced with the hood down. I'll bet that it is really loud with the hood up!

BTW... thanks for the original post bbruins2. The search button is the greatest!

  4. My step dad who I already feel is a POS BACKED into my 2 month old LEXUS in his driveway today!!! I want to kill him! I prob need a new front bumper!!! Does anyone know any good body shops in the Baltimore area...or if it is wise to take it to the dealership?

    Thanks

Hey jules... so sorry to hear about your car! Mine is only two weeks old, and I know how I would feel.

I can't help you with the body shops, but IMO, since your car is new, and I assume that the repairs will be covered by insurance, I would say take it to the dealer and get it done right.

    Good luck!

  5. I would not go with the fancy nano stuff again. Also, make sure you understand that some film has "metal" in it and it can interfer with the radio, telephone, and GPS. I don't like the look of the "mirror/metal" films, so I went with medium on the passenger and driver's window, and a slightly darker on the two back windows and rear window. It looks really nice without having the tint completely blacked out like limousine tint. Of course the trade-off to window tint is you have a more difficult time seeing out the windows at night. TJMWO.

From everything I have heard, ceramic based tints are the way to go.

  6. :o 66K for a IS250? and 100K for an ISF? That's insane!! Not to rub it in, but I just started liking my IS 350 even more now! ;)

I can relate! It wasn't until after I posted that I realized just how little difference there is between the car in the article, and the IS I already own, aside from the REDICULOUS price!

  7. Hey Everyone,

I just got an '07 350 a month ago. Its Smokey Granite Mica w/ a Grey Interior. It has the 18" rims. I am considering painting my brake calipers. The first color that comes to mind is red but I just wanted to get everyone's opinion. I think it might look really cool and sporty but on the other hand it might look a bit overdone since I don't have any of the body packages on except for the rear spoiler.

I'm also open to suggestions for different colors as well. What do you all think? I attached a couple pics of my car to share as well. It was raining so they aren't the best quality but I live in Portland so I guess thats just normal! :-)

Scorpio... welcome fellow newbie! That's a beautiful color. I especially like the fin on the back. I considered an immaculate '07 that very color before going with my '08 Black Sapphire. IMHO, it is easy to achieve a ricer look if you aren't careful when painting the calipers. I haven't looked closely at mine, but is there a Lexus name or logo on them? If so, I think that painting them gloss black, with just red lettering would look superb. That would make them pop, without looking over the top.

Just my .02 Good luck with the choice, and be sure to post the 'after' pics!

  8. Welcome to the club. If I look real close at the pics I can see the change holder that they added for '08. B)

Enjoy you new ride. It's a great car that gets really good gas mileage which is very relevant these days. I would recommend getting a clear bra if the car does not already have one. Just a suggetsion though

Thanks Gaugster... I guess you are talking about the little tray thing that is just to the left of the steering wheel on the dash. I can't imagine that it would hold coins for too long under hard acceleration or cornering. The mileage I am very happy about. I gave up 100 horses going from my G35 to the IS, but it has been worth it for me. I am certainly going to look into the clear bra. My G had MANY stone hits in the front end.

  9. I would have paid $12 extra a month to have them do all the maintenance. Damnnnnnnnn!!!!

Yeah...I was in the finance office to sign the papers, and of course he was trying to get me to tack on all kinds of extras, some of which would have added another $200 to my payment! I declined all of those, and was just about to sign, when he turned his computer monitor toward me and said, "Well, how about for another $12/month we give you all PM included?". It took me about a nano-second to agree. I wanted to take it to the dealer for all the PMs, but I always balk at their prices. $12 for the term of the financing seemed a small price to pay. I am diligent about PM anyway, but this will help it not sting so much! ;)

  10. This was also my first Lexus and I bet you had the same type of experience as I did. It was fun and I feel like I made some good friends at the dealer. I've purchased alot of new cars and the experience of them were ok, I was happy to have the car and be done with the sale. But the lexus experience made getting and feeling the car more enjoyable. I would by another Lexus for sure.

    Ray

My dealer experience at Lexus was a bit mixed. The guy I bought from was really green, and very nice, but not too sophisticated. I got there at 6pm, and didn't get home till almost 11pm. During the time I was there, it took till almost 8pm before there was any offer of refreshment. I will say though that the actual deal was very smooth. Their second offer, after my counter, was a really good one. They actually gave me a thousand more for my trade than I even asked for. (The car was pristine, and well maintained), however, I never was given a single business card, by anyone. My experience at the Infiniti dealer two years ago was so good that, for PM, I traveled the nearly 40 miles because they were so professional and accommodating. The GM wrote me after the sale, to congratulate me on the purchase, as did the guy I bought from, who also called after a few days to make sure that everything was going well with the car, and even sent me a Christmas card that year!

I've heard from no one at Lexus yet... not even the guy I bought from, and he assured me that he was going to check in with me to make sure that everything was ok. We'll see what happens when I go in for my first PM on the Lexus. Keep in mind that the Infiniti I bought was two years pre-owned. The Lexus is brand new.

  11. Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum and was just wondering what you thought about factory service at the recommended times... I have an 07 Lexus IS 250 AWD My questions are:

    1. I bought my car used from an infinitti dealership which gave me a 100,000 mile warranty, do you think it would make a difference if i got it serviced there?

    2. aside from the regular vehicle maintenance like changing oil, filters, etc does everyone abide by the 5k servicing that lexus recommends?

    3. how much is the 5k service?

    Thoughts/suggestions?

I love my car and the fact there is a forum like this really cool,

Thanks in advance for any replies

    Hey mg...

I can't speak to numbers 2 and 3, but I just bought my car, and in the process I asked what the rule was about service, because I have a great independent that I go to here in SoCal. The dealer said basically that as long as you have records to back up your periodic service, your warranty is good. That being said, I did add an additional $12/month to my payments, for which the dealer does all my PM with no further charge.

  12. Nice. Welcome to the club.

    Thanks mucho!

Wow.. she's a beauty! I love that color combo, but here in AZ we chose the Matador Red Mica. As my good friend Jerry would say "That's one cats-!Removed! machine"!!

Thanks! I can imagine that the Matador Red with Cashmere would look outstanding!

  13. Congrats Bill and welcome to LOC!!! I like the fact that you have black colored interior carpeting, I wish mine was black. If you golf, definitely look at putting the clear bra on the back bumper as well. You will be amazed at how much aggrevation this will save you each time you drop your bag onto your bumper by accident.

Thanks for the greetings, and the tip BaddBoi. I guess I got lucky... the "Lexus" clear bra on the rear bumper came with the car! As for the carpet, I agree on the color. I can keep the Cashmere leather clean, but to have light carpeting would have been trouble.

  14. Did your's come with the automatic sun screen in the rear window? They didn't have one with the color I wanted so we did without. Wish I had one.

That was the same issue for me... no rear shade. There were a couple of other colors that had the nav and the shade, but I opted for the color over the options.

  15. congrats... Very clean... Is that push button start cool or what??? Whats the first thing your doing to her? Tint, wheels, clear bra?

Thanks yellow! The push button is indeed very cool! I love not having to mess with a key for anything!

As to mods... I may look into the clear bra. I tried to get the dealer to do it when I got the car, but he said that they farm it out to a contractor, and they were looking into a new company to do that. I'm just gonna drive her and enjoy for right now. I have been hearing that Cali is about to start clamping down on tinted windows again, and I don't want to risk the ticket right now. B)

  16. Hello all... just wanted to introduce myself.

    On April 30, I traded my '04 Infiniti G35 in on a 2008 IS 250, and am I ever :D !!

This is my first Lexus, new or otherwise. It is Black Sapphire Pearl, with Cashmere leather. (What an amazing combo!)

Here's a couple of pics, cause I know I'll be asked!

As you can see, no NAV, but it was between that and the color, and I chose the color.... (besides, I don't get lost too often! ;) )
