  1. well i had them service my IS250 yesterday for the first time and it was not what i expected. the carwash was not a carwash it looked like they just hosed down my car and wiped it. there was a shiny spot that looked like the mechanic touched my side door panel and left his fingerprints on it, and they refused to turned my running light off.

meh just my 2 cents, has anyone experienced this before?

I'm kind of curious... I have seen a few posts about the running lights, and, no judgment here, but why are daytime running lights an issue for you?

  2. How about the drunk that called and said someone stole his steering wheel.

He was in the back seat.

That reminds me of a story a friend told me about a time when he drove a tow truck for AAA. He responded to a call outside a bar, where he found a VERY inebriated young woman, who was upset and crying. She proceeded to tell my friend that she needed to have him unlock her car, as she had locked her keys inside. My friend walked over to the car, reached in through the OPEN CONVERTIBLE TOP, pulled her keys out of the ignition and handed them to her.

  3. What kind of aftermarket wheels are on your Lexus IS 250/350? The reason I posted this topic is because I’m one who likes to see the wheels on the car before actually buying them. Also, it would be cool if people could post pictures of their wheels on their ride so others would get a better idea of what aftermarket wheels would look like on their car.

So please post a picture of your ride with the aftermarket wheels on it. Also, provide the size and manufacture of the wheels for others. B)

This should be a sticky. I would love to be able to check in from time to time, to see what kind of wheels everyone has chosen, and what I might like for my own IS!

  4. I hadn't detailed my wheels for about 4 weeks. I had the Michelin brake dust repellent on them for that length of time, and had only been going through the touchless car wash about once a week. So yesterday I went to the car wash and sprayed the wheels with Michelin acid free wheel cleaner prior to going through the wash. The wheels came out clean, just fine. Today I sprayed and wiped them down again with the dust repellent. It appears to me this will keep the wheels looking good for about a month with very little manual work involved.

Excellent info barkat. I usually just use a spray detailer between washes, but I'm going to try the Michelin product. Thanks!

  5. Hello everyone.

I just purchased a new IS 250 AWD yesterday and I love it.

It is Starfire Pearl and the interior is Cashmere Perforated Leather Trim with Auburn Bird's-Eye Maple Accent.

    I got the following options:

Voice-activated DVD Navigation System with Additional Options

    - Voice-activated DVD Navigation System

    - Luxury Package

    - Premium package

    - XM® Satellite Radio

    - Rear spoiler

    - Preferred accessory package (includes cargo net, trunk mat and wheel locks)

    - All-weather floor mats

    Pics are attached.

I have a stupid question. Both sunvisors have a slot in them. What is this designed for?

    Sweet!! Looking good!

I use the slot for my regs and ins. card. I guess you could use it for garage access cards for work, etc.

  6. Don't you miss the extra 100hp of the g35?

Sorry for the long lag in replying!

I do indeed miss that 100 hp, but I don't miss 13.5 mpg! My car still has less than 1000 miles, and is already getting 18.5 mpg. Honestly, I am crazier about this car than I was about the G35.

  7. Agreed... 777 here, and they were doing everything they could to make sure that I drove out in a new Lexus! Keep in mind though that it depends on whether you are intending to purchase or lease. Generally, you have to have a higher score to lease than to buy, and it will make a difference as to how much you have to put down to get a decent payment. Also, you can't really rely on your score as you get it from the big three, (Experian, TRW, Equifax), because they calculate a bit differently at the dealer. (To their benefit, of course). My report from the big three showed my score at 830, but only 777 from the dealers report.

  8. My IS250 still has the original tires with it and I recently replace 1 due to a bad bulge caused by a nasty pothole (cost me $200+labor). I was told that the life of those tires are about 35K miles. Are there any other tires that I could put on this baby beside sticking with the ones recommended by the dealer? Thanks.

This is a great resource to not only see what tires are compatible with your car, but also view different wheels on it, and compare prices!

  9. Does anyone have the hidden radar Lexus is pushing. If so I would like to know how you like it? Also is it possible to install yourself. I am hearing $1500 installed does that sound high?

    TX

I have an Escort mounted on the windshield. Texas must be one of the few states in which it is illegal to have a detector, huh?

I aam pretty sure NJ is illegal also. tx will

LOL... Sorry. I saw the 'TX' at the end of your post and thought, "He must be from Texas!". Then, after replying, I saw your profile and realized that you are from NJ.

I was rather tired yesterday, and it showed in my reply!

  10. Actually, the "queezy" feeling has gone.

Glad you came to your senses!

Now you can enjoy that beautiful new car!

    B)

I've been in that frame of mind after making a big purchase before. I know exactly what you were feeling. My way of dealing with that as I have gotten older, (because I AM older than dust. lol), has been to do TONS of research prior to making the purchase. Sometimes it validates my decision, sometimes it reveals that it is not such a great idea. Either way, it soothes my mind at the time of laying my signature down.

  11. Further to my original question, let's assume one could achieve comparable reliability with a Camry or Accord, etc. Perhaps we could even assume the same resale % of original purchase price. Are these fair assumptions?

So, since we're assuming, :D can I assume that you are thinking of taking the car back??

I mean no disrespect, but if not, I think that you're just spitting in the wind here. Lamenting over what you might consider to be a bad choice tells me that you bought the car for the wrong reason.

It is not too difficult to spend $37k on a car with far less amenities and quality. This is far from the flagship of the Lexus line.

  12. Alright, I'd like to know what everyone's rationale is for spending so many $$ on a really nice car versus a new car priced in the mid $20k's. How does one justify it? I've always felt OK spending top dollar on vehicles for my wife (why, I do not know). However, I just dropped +$36k on an 08 IS250 for myself and feel a little queezy. Don't get me wrong- love the car. I just don't think I NEED the car.

Just curious as to your thought processes when spending so much.

    Thanks.

For me, it is a simple answer. I have worked very hard to get to a point that I can afford to have a nice car. The decision to get a Lexus was a combination of want, and practicality. The Lexus is built well, and holds its value... aside from being a great car to drive, with great style. Once I was happy with the deal I was getting, I had not one second of doubt about the purchase.

  13. Hey guys finally got to the dealer today and signed the papers on a 250 AWD in Smoky granite with sterling interior, lux, prem, and nav. Out the door for a little under 39.

Heres the kicker tho, so after we are done with the finance guy we come out and still no car in the "delivery room" they tell us it would only be a few more minutes...about half hour later our salesmen comes up and says they put a new battery in the car (kinda strange since it only had 14 miles on it and was totally new still had all the plastic inside on everything) So about another 20 mins and salesmen comes back over with the manager of the dealership.

I guess there was some kind of problem with the ignition system on the car we picked out. That was the only smoky they had with those options on the lot, they told us we could pick any other car but we were set on that color. So they said give them a few days to track down one with the same options and colors in the area and we can pick it up on Weds. O and cause of this whole thing...i got them to throw in the Sirius unit on the new car for 200 bux.

So heres the cliff notes version....went in to buy IS, bought IS, left with loaner ES. Overall just a very long day for not getting the car we bought.

Sounds like they treated you well though. Good that the problem showed up at the dealer! Congratulations, and pics please as soon as you are able!

  14. Greetings...

Looking for advice. I've had my new IS250 for 1 week and encountered a nasty speed hump. Upon inspection, I noticed what would seem to be a minor ding/scrape on the exhaust right below the front passenger seat. Is this something to be concerned about?

    Thanks!

    Hello fellow newb!

IMO, as long as it is only a minor ding, it shouldn't be a problem. Back in the day, when I had my '67 Camaro, I had to purposely ding the exhaust for clearance around the 'A' arm, and it had no adverse effect... however, I think that I would be inclined to check the nearby connections, make sure that the bolts are still tight. Any change in the way the exhaust sounds?

  15. From AudiForums:

Hey guys, I've got a 98 1.8T. I've had a k04 and chip for a while and wanted to get more performance. I was recommended to port and polish the intake and exhaust. We found out they used abrasive material to do it like gritty sand. So I got with my friend that tunes Hondas and we decided to try it ourselves. We got a bag of sandblasting sand and hooked up into the intake and started the car. We had to hold the gas so it would run. He wanted to let the engine suck in the sand through the intake so it would port it out and then push it out the exhaust so it would port the exhaust manifold.

I was worried that it might cause problems but he figured it'd be OK as long as we didn't make boost and it get sucked in the turbo. After running the car and letting it suck in sand we got about half way through a 25 lb bag. The check engine light was on and the engine was bucking and kicking and sounding really weird. We stopped and hooked the car back up normal and took off the sand supply. We tried to start it again and it was really hard. Once started it couldn't idle and kept making weird noises. We took it out and drove it and it started to make scraping and knocking noises.

Help! Can anyone tell me what to do! My buddy only does Hondas so he doesn't know much about Audis.

    That's gotta be a joke!

    I found the original post...

    Porting made easy...

There are some very funny replies. No one can be THAT stupid, can they?

  16. I own a IS 350 and I just had my 15k mile service. They gave me an IS 250 loaner (first time I drove a 250). In my oppinion its way under powered. From off the line acceleration was really weak. I expected some slowness, but the engine just seemed not able to handle what I wanted to do. I have to admit, I'm a little biased here, but for anyone deciding between them.... the 350 supplies me with ample power to drive how I want and fast enough for me. It just feels right. The 250 felt like it was struggling to get up to the speed limit from off-the-line.

Just my 2 cents... if its worth anything to anyone.

    Jeff

I had the same issue, (but was prepared for it), going from the Infiniti G35 coupe, to the IS 250.

  17. Just took delivery of my car on Friday. Traded a 2007 Mercedes C230 that I purchased new and spent 19 days in the shop in the first 6 months. Odds are this car will be a better buy! IS250 RWD black on black, tinted windows, X-package, XM radio, 5/100K warranty.

    Congratulations!

    (What, no pics??)

  18. I so wish I could get the 350 but with gas $4.10 for premium (I use about 110 gallons a month with the IS 250) and the crappy weather of New England (I need AWD) I guess I am stuck. with less Horsepower :(

When I was in Miami Beach Full Service Premium was $4.99 9/10 on 41st Street...yipee

The gas was my issue too. I jumped out of an '04 G35 in which the best in town numbers I could get were 14 mpg.
