  2. There are currently three minor recalls for the 2006 GS 300, currently under way. 1. Replacing a rubber cup in the Brake Master Cylinder. Nov 2010 2. Checking the fuel pressure sensor and replacing the gasket if necessary. Feb 2011 3. Checking the plastic pad in the carpet under the gas pedal. Mar 2011. All of these can be viewed on the www.lexus.com website that I pointed you to in the thread about the owners manual. steviej
  3. go to www.Lexus.com, click on the Owner's Resource button. (top right corner) Register yourself as the owner of your new GS on the website. Don't worry, this is Lexus' website and not some aftermarket spam/scam. It is not registering your car as you would at the DMV. On the left side, click the Vehicle Resources button, you can request a free copy of the owners manual and the supplemental manual. There are also PDFs for each section of the manual that are directly downloadable. or you can always go the eBay route. steviej
  4. my old Samsung p417 rang fine. My previous crackberry curve 8900 and my current crackberry Torch do not ring. The display on the dashboard lights up with the incoming call and the stereo cuts out though, so I know I have a call. steviej
  5. If it is the same as the 2006 GS, then it should be directly under the steering column about 2 to 3 inches in under the dash. If that doesn't work, check the other button (Main Set/2nd Set button). It is under the dash below left bottom corner of the glove compartment. This button gets hit accidentally if your passenger has a handbag or package by their feet. I find this button gets switched more often than I like. Poor location if you ask me. steviej
  6. what are road conditions like in Ontario? If you have as many potholes then I would pass on the 20"s. You won't be able to get a tire with enough sidewall to give you protection from a bent rim or two. I put 18's on my GS and doubt I would go 19 given the horrendous road conditions around New England due to winter frost heaves. I know that didn't answer your rubbing quesitons, but something else to think about before you drop the ducats on 20's. steviej

  8. There is an AWD model of the LS, try looking for one of those. The rear seat room in the GS is not bad if the front seats are moved up some. I will not go back to a FWD or RWD car ever again given the New England winters. However, there was a time when 99% of all cars were RWD and did ok in the snow when shod with good snow tires on all four corners. steviej
  9. when it is cold and I take my foot off the brake (but not applied to gas pedal) the car will want to go forward, but I would not call that a surge.
  10. My understanding is no. The sensors are made by Pacific and supposedly the signal from the 33021 sensor will not be detected. I went through the same dilemna when I put on a summer set of tires. I ended up just buying a second set of 30030 sensors at $106.43 each. However, since then I have found out that this sensor could have been obtained at a cheaper price from TireRack.com. Give them a call or visit their email to see what pricing would be. steviej

  12. I use Mobil 1 simply because it is available in every autoparts store. In addition, WalMart carries the 5qt jug at the best price of anyplace. Amsoil is no where near that available. steviej
  13. running synthetic oil in your GS is perfectly fine. Altering the "suggested" change interval is up to you and may cause problems if you experienced problems under warranty. You may find the dealership trying to use the extended interval as a way of getting out of having to perform the work. However, you will not void the warranty if you use synthetic oil that is rated to the mininum required ILSAC grade (listed in your owners manual) and follow your recommended interval (oil and filter every 5k miles). steviej PS, I have been running synthetic in this GS and my previous ES since I got them....no problems.
  14. I have merged your two thread because the two running simultaneously will get confusing. Before you pull the plug and do a drain, make sure you have a way to fill. Look under the hood, if you do not have a tranny fluid dipstick then you have a 2006 tranny and no intermediate service is necessary. If you do not have a fluid dipstick, DO NOT drain as you will have no way to fill properly. I have never heard of a "transition transmission". This would be foolish on may service points.   15. You can register yourself as the new owner of your car on www.lexus.com, that should get recall notices as well as other service information routed to you. You can go to any Lexus dearlership, get yourself and your car loaded into their national service database. That will do it as well. Any Lexus serviceship should be able to pull your vehicle up by VIN and give you a print out of what service has been performed on your car by a Lexus service center. Any outside work will not be there, though. Any Lexus service center will/can do any recall work on your car even if you didn't buy the car from them. Recall work is gratus, meaning you pay nothing provided you fall within the guidelines of the recall notice you recieve. steviej
  16. Raise the front end. There is a large plastic splash guard. Up by the left front corner you will see a trap door seciton. 1 10mm bolt and one or two push pins keep it secure. Remove those and the flap drops down. You will see a cannister type of housing staring you in the face. There is an end cap that will receive a 3/8" ratchet or socket extension. Remove the cap. The plastic coupler inside the box with the new filter pushes up in hear (instructions on end oil filter box). This will drain the reserve in the cannister. The unscrew the cannister, remove the old filter. Put in new, screw cannister back in, replace end cap. Filter replaced. steviej
  17. The PCV filter is about a $6 item. I had my dealer do it when they were doing some other stuff at 60k. I looked but couldn't find it. Then again, didn't know what shape to look for. PCVs come in a variety of shapes and sizes and I didn't have a service manaul. The fuel filter is in the tank....don't go there. steviej
  18. I think you may find that to be a dealer fix due to what is involved to get at it. Blower assembly with housing and damper door is close to $600. Park Place Lexus steviej
  19. the mechanism that opens and closes the door is most likely broken. Common problem with the GS especially if someone tried to force the door open to get at and change the cabin filter. If the car is under warranty, shouldn't be a problem to get it fixed, but be prepared that the dealer may refuse if they were not the ones to change the filter. IF the car is out of warranty, sit down, it is about a grand to fix according to posts from other members. steviej
  20. follow the instructions in your owners manual to open and view the insert area of the cabin filter. With the car running, and the glove box open so you can see the filter area, cycle the AC system between recirc and fresh air. Visually make sure that the door securely closes and seals off the filter area. This door is easily broken. The noise you hear may be the mechanism trying to close or open that door but not being able to. When in recirc mode, the door should be open, when in fresh air mode the door should be closed. If you constantly smell outside air, maybe the door is stuck closed. steviej
  21. sounds like a possible shot circuit or switch being activated when the auto tilt wheel contacts. Try two things. 1. Have the lights on Auto. Shut the car off as you would and watch the tilt wheel contract. Get out of the car and use the remote key to shut off the lights when you leave the car (hit the lock button two times). Watch to make sure the light go out. After a few hours, get back in the car and see what the status is. 2. If it continues, have the auto tilt feature disabled. Easy setting for the dealer to do. Then go about your business. See if the scenario you describe still continues if the telescoping column does not move. post back up what you find. steviej
  22. Thxs for the info. btw the mudflaps on your car and the colored matched??? how do you like them?? how was the install? Where did you get them? Thank you. The mudflaps come painted in factory color. They take about 20 minutes each to install cause it is best if you remove the wheel (gives you more elbow room). Only one hole for each wheel well has to be drilled into plastic. The holes in the mudflaps are predrilled and line up perfectly. All hardware is included. Instructions are in Japaneese but can be easily figured out by the picture. I got them through www.l-tunedparts.com they cost $338. here is a direct link. mudflaps steviej
  23. Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3. Totally awesome performance winter snow tire. Have used them in two New England winters so far and they are absolutely great in snow, slush, rain and on dry pavement. steviej
