  1. Hi everybody, got a 1991 Lexus LS 400, with 130K miles on it. The steering wheel all of a sudden feels loose, like it turns real easy with no resistance, and this worries me. Any idea what could be causing it? Have had no troubles with steering in the past. Thanks
  2. 1991 Lexus LS 400 with 127k miles. Here's my problem - the car is fine when I drive during the day. But when I turn on the lights at night, for some reason it down-shifts - I can feel it do so, and the tachometer shoots up (really high, to about 6000 rpm, close to the red line, when I drive at say 70mph on interstate), and I can hear this whirring sound from the engine. Any idea what's causing this? If its an alternator problem is it going to be expensive to fix? what am i looking at in terms of bucks? thanks!
  3. I have a 1991 LS400 with 127k miles on it. has had dashboard circuitry problem for a while now (reverse light indicator comes on every time I hit brake). Anyway, just last week, heard grinding noise and tachometer reading showing unusually high engine speed even when I was driving at 30 mph. So I took it in to local, quite trusted mechanic. Had brake caliper, pads, rotor replaced as well as upper arm controls replaced. All had worn down and apparently the noise had to do with brake caliper seizing on me. Now the brakes are fine, but the high tachometer reading is still a problem, although engine temp. gauge doesnt indicate overheating. the high reading (4 to 5k RPM) at low speeds has only started a day after I got the car back. Wasnt a problem right away after I drove the car from mechanic's. Should I consider this solely a circuitry problem or is there a deeper problem at work? Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
