  1. Hi guys i have a friend who have a 20" rims for sell can somebody give me idea if it's going to look okey or not because i tried one of them on it fits but it looks alittle big and funny.THANKS

The key word here is OFFSET. I am running 20x8.5 F (22 Off) and 20x10.5 R (25 Off). With 245 F and 255 R. with no rubbing issues. Stock is 38 Offset so it will all depend on the offset of the rim and size of the tire.

  2. hey guys i have a soarer or SC300 model and trying to replace the worn out kyb struts/springs since the car bounces like a fat chick right now.

I have read the manual and managed to get all the bolts and what not off but the problem is that when I unbolted the front strut/spring assembly, it didn't drop down like it should and because of the drop link (that holds the control arm up) is in the way. In the manual is doesn't mention anything about removing this to get the shocks out? any help here?

Did you use a spring compressor and remove the strut mount off the arm? That is all I needed when I did mine a few weeks ago.

  3. I am thinking about having all my car interior map lights, dome lights, step courtesy lights changed to White LEDs.

I have checked the Osram Guide but still a little bit confused about the bulb sizes I need. Can someone who has did this help me out, thanks a bunch!

Courtesy lights are 194, BA9s for the map lights and 31mm for the main. You can find it all on EBAY if you use the search with the numbers provided.

  4. Anyone know how to rewire the 3rd brake light on the spoiler to the back window shelf where the back speakers are. Is there another brake light wire that runs behind the back seat.

Not sure if all the cars were fitted with this but if you remove your right cover in the trunk you may find the wiring for the 3rd brake light. If not then you will have to go directly from the third brake light housing to make your connections. The good news is that the housing can be removed without taking the whole shelf off. The bad is that you will have to route your wires to it. It will be easier if you remove the covers from your trunk.

  5. I have a 98 sc300 with a bad o2 sensor. I am trying to determine the correct location for this sensors. The bad sensor is bank 1 sensor 2. To my understanding there are 2 pre cat and 2 post cat. My best guess tells me post cat driver side but my luck and hunch tells me pre cat pass side. IF aynone could help with a picture of the exact location or good description I would greatly appreciate it. Need to get it replaced asap to get inspection up to date that went out feb of 09. (had it sitting as it was a buddies spare car)

Both sensors are located about a foot of each other. Remove your air intake box and hose you will have access to both. Both will be visible once the intake box and hoses are removed. First one located near the exhaust manifold and the other just under your Cap and rotor. Your better off replacing both at the same time but really up to you. Sorry if it sounds redundant but I dont have pictures so I want to make sure you got the jest of what needs to come off.

  6. 1995 SC300 with about 132K miles.

In the last 6 months I have replaced or changed:

    Timing belt/Tensioner, water pump

    Serpentine Belt, tensioner pulley.

    Alternator

    Plugs, Wires

    Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter

    Now the symptoms:

    1. Start the car, from cold no problems at all, runs great, no miss, no hesitation.

    2. As the temp starts to climb toward normal the problems start to increase. The engine runs rough, doesn't want to rev, has no power and develops a miss that gets worse the higher the temp gauge climbs. The car doesn't over heat, but once it gets to normal operating temp it is impossible to drive. The miss gets so bad it sounds like it's back firing through the throttle body. Eventually at full operating temp it won't even idle and the miss is horrible.

It's been suggested to me that it may be the crank position sensor or clogged cats. It's also been suggested that it could be one of the two temp sensors.

I don't want to ditch the car, but I also don't want to start replacing every sensor on the dang thing because knowing my luck I'll have to replace them all, and it'll be the last one I replace that will cure it.

I've had another car with a clogged cat, and it did something similar, but it feels like there's decent flow out the exhaust tips even at full temp.

I did a compression check, and every thing looked good on all 6 cylinders. The plugs looked fine but I replaced them anyway. I haven't noticed any raw gas smell, or any smoke from the exhaust.

My gut instinct (from other car problems) says that the computer doesn't seem to be adjusting the timing correctly. Almost like it warms up and looses it's mind.

But, at this point, I'm stumped. I'm also 90 minutes from any Lexus dealership, and my local Toyota dealer looked at me like I had sprouted horns when I took it there.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated greatly.

Almost sounds like when I had to change my head gasket. Have you checked your coolant for any tell tale signs of oil? When it came close to failure, there always seemed to be a bubble trapped in the Coolant lines and I had to run it with the cap off til it released. Dont know why the toyota dealership looked at you funny, it is a NA supra and all share the same symptoms.

  7. My window on my 1993 SC400 on the passenger side will roll down, but will not roll up. I purchased another window switch and installed it but its doing the same thing. So i purchase a window regulator to install, but i can't completely remove the door panel. I am stuck at the inner door release handle, can someone tell me how to get that pryed apart without damaging anything?

There should be like 9 bolts that hold your door in place. One located at the tweeter (Remove the cover) 3 underneath, two at the hand rest, two in the front, and one at the actual door handle itself. It is only a plastic cover that you need to pry out. A skinny screwdriver should do the trick.

  8. 2004 GX470 with 102K miles. VSC, Trac, and check engine light came on this morning. Took to autozone with troubleshooting code showing P0031.

    Any ideas???

Had the same thing happen but not sure if that was the code that I had. It had something to do with the gas cap not being tight or a sensor in the gas tank.

  9. I was wondering if someone can help. having a problem with the wiring of my suv. Cannot figure out which wire on the stereo to hook up with the a/v control of aftermarket headrest dvd. Wires from the a/v control are:

    red:+12 ACC

    yellow: +12 Battery

    black: Ground

    green: parking

    I just bought a 2009 GX-470.

The stock wiring for a dvd player is under the shift panel. It will be on the top right and if not mistaken, will be a white plug. You can tap all your wires into that.

  11. Are there any cabin air filters in a 95 SC400? I have seen them for sale on Ebay, but I have also noticed that they are not listed with other vendors. I am about to rip my glove box / dash area apart to look and thought I would take the time to ask first. If so, where would they be located? I have an odd smell that is coming through the vents regardless of what setting the air or heat is on. I hope it is just these filters. I don't even drive it for this reason. It is that bad! Thanks.

Cabin filter is located under the passenger dash. Just get under there and look up to see the panel. Two screws is all it is. When you pull it out, you will know how bad your filter is. I have heard of some vehicles not even having one and being very musky. Just clean it out when you install your filter and you should be fine

  12. I have an '04 GX470 loaded with everything except the DVD Entertainment package. I'd like to get one installed (2nd row overhead). Has anyone had this done? And, if so, what kind did buy? where'd you have it installed? I'm in NC. Any advice for me on the subject? thx.

I also have an 04 GX - I bought a 9" clarion and had it installed by a local shop. It has a FM mod so you have to tune your radio to a certain frequency to get the sound from the speaker system. The clarion comes with two sets of wireless headphones which are really good. The picture is one of the best in business. My advice would be to go with a good name brand. Saving a few buck on this is not worth it. My installation cost about $150 and the tech did an excellent job he got the power wired straight from the battery with additional fuses etc. Really clean job and would recommend him if you are in the DC metro area.

Thanks for the reco, unfortunately, I'm in socal...Do you know where he ran the wire, esp. in lieu of the moonroof, as well as the side curtain airbags? Also, any other suggestions to tap the wiring as opposed to the battery up in the engine bay? I'm assuming might be easier to grab behind the existing radio harness/panel when the in-line modulator is installed???

The stock wiring for a DVD system is located under the shift knob area. It is on the top right and if you dont have an existing DVD player is just a white plug. I found it easier to remove the center console and run wires from there to the side pillars. I used a wire hanger (Plastic coated) to run the wires through the roof to the pillars. I just made sure that I did not force it to get to where I needed it. Dont know if this helps but this is how I managed to get mine installed.

  13. hey i am just wondering if i were to purchase tail lights after they changed the look of them would they fit on a 93' which still had the older tails? by fit im not concerned with size of the light cause im sure its the same but im talking about bulb placement inside the trunk and trying to get past the steel wall of the trunk. thanks !

Just another option if you can not find a load resistor is to use the front running lights as a turn signal. All you need to do is splice into the front signal wire to the running light and cap off the positive from the running light. I am referring to the front side amber lights.

  14. When my motor is cold and i start it, i get a nice even whistle from the engine area, as the engine warms up to normal operating temps it stops. I am fearing an exhaust leak seemingly between where the primary cats meet my exhaust system. Hopefully just needs an exhaust gasket? Any opinions, hadnt had a chance to put it on a lift while running to inspect.

Had the "whistling" happen to me as well, it turned out to be the harmonic balancer. The rubber around the main crank deteriorated and during startup would whistle until the rubber surround heated up. I would check to see if the main crank is moving once the car is on just to be safe.

  15. Many have questions on how to program the Homelink buttons. It is in the owner's manual but sometimes it may be confusing to understand the terminology. I've summarized what the manual states, and hopefully this will help anyone in the future (as I have in the past already hehe)

"Ok. Delete the codes in the homelink then try this. (To delete, hold down the first and third buttons at the same time, hold for about 30-60 seconds till the light blinks really fast. Release and check if deleted if the light blinks at a slow but steady pace. That means there's nothing stored on that button)

Hold down the garage door button and the homelink button u want programmed. Once the light changes from a slow blinking light to a rapid blinking light, release both buttons. Then go to the garage door openner and (this is different for all garage door openners) push the "learn" button ONCE. Within 30 secs, press the same button u programmed 3 times, and it should work."

Steps are right but make sure that your garage door does not have a rolling code. If it does, you will have to press the reset button on the garage door itself. Press the reset first then do the procedures you stated above. Good luck

  16. The Sylvania replacement guide lists the dome lights as DE3175, however, the map lights in the front of the car are totally different than the dome lights in the rear. Does anyone know the type of bulb that is in the front map lights?

BA9S is the part number you reference if you go to autozone or any other auto parts store. Good luck

  17. I am in Honoloulu, Hawaii and I have been going to different stereo places trying to price a new system for my 1992 SC400. The guys I have talked to all seem to think its a very complicated job and will cost quite a bit. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best system to fit the parameters of the SC400, or even the best place to get it done? I may be moving to San Francisco soon, so shops in that area might work too. Thank you.

If it does not have a Nakamichi system, SC models prior to 95, you can use a toyota wiring adapter for the connections. You will have two harnesses one is for the interface with the AC lcd and the other is for the power. You will need to hook up the remote lead to the stock amp if you want it to work. You can easily fit a double din in there but you will have a gap of about an inch to inch 1/2. Sounds complicated but you will know what I am talking about when you are actually installing. Your volume button will not work and it will no longer show on the LCD. Good luck

  18. My 97 SC300 has 62,500 miles and I am thinking of having the timing belt changed. Do I have to change the water pump also?

Is this a real tough job ? I would like to take it to a independent mechanic and not a dealership. Thanks

If you are already changing the timing, you might as well do it. Just make sure that you inform the shop that you have an "Interference engine" so they know what it entails

  19. 4K. I have replaced the master control switch and fixed 2 broken wires. Now I am looking for a drivers side window regulator and motor to get it fixed.

Japanese parts is located at the End of Lamb Blvd has all kinds of parts for Lexus and Toyota. You can get all the parts you need from there. Good luck

  20. I bought my 1992 SC400 in January as a work car for $950, 90 miles per day round trip. It had 145,000 miles when I got it, always averages 23.7-24.3 mpg and that is with leadfooterus disease. I have had it at 145 mph many times and still had plenty of power left. Sure is fun during the drag race after work even if I get outran in the short run I catch and pass everyone in a mile or so. It is amazing being a 1992 that everything still works, power sunroof, power tilt/telescope, power seats. This car has been amazing to own and I will buy another when we need a newer vehicle.

Problem just started, live in western kansas so we don't get much rain might and might not be part of problem. It was raining Tuesday morning went to work and about 30 miles into drive it started sputtering really bad but if you floored it, it would pull out and seem to run good, but then at constant speed start sputtering again. After work still raining with wet roads, about 15 miles into drive and after a few city miles it started sputtering, pulled over to make sure gas cap was venting and no suction on tank. Same as before if you floored it, it ran good but sputtered at constant speed. Pulled into town and it died 3 times on side streets. Had it idling and opened hood to hope to see sparks from shorting wire but nothing and it died again. I haven't looked at it yet, I will this weekend. The check engine light has flashed on and off ever since I have owned it intermittently. I plan on taking it out this weekend in dry weather to see if it still acts up. Seems like mpg has went south also. I am sure it has the original plugs/wires/fuel filter in it. It just seems more like a maf sensor or something of that nature to me. I hope I can get a picture posted, I'm kinda proud of my cheap badass car.

I have been pulling wrenches profesionally since 1992, how long does it take to install new waterpump and timing belt?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. THANKS Josh

    lexusuw3.th.jpgthpix.gif

Timing belt and pump should take you 6 hours max if you are somewhat experienced. One thing you will really need is a Harmonic balancer tool to hold while you crank at the main bolt. When putting everything back together from TDC, do two full rotations on the crank. Check all your lines to see if they have cracked and/or if they are connected. Good luck

  21. I am having an issue with my driver side window. I repaired the broken wire in the wiring harness and it and the master control switch. So now the window will go up and down partially. The window comes about half way down and for some reason the aft part of the window seems to stop and the front part of the window will go down a little bit more. I don't see anything in the way of the track or what it could be catching on to prevent it from going all of the way down.

The motor sounds find and is NOT making any noises so I don't believe that it could be a motor. It just acts like it is hanging up on something but I can see where.

I did a search on here and read many window issues but I failed to find one that is related to the issue that I am having.

Had the same problelm with mine. It is off track or the rivets that hold the track have broken. You should see what I am talking about when you remove your panel and roll up and down your window. Look inside and you should see the mechanism. It needs to be riveted/screwed around the area where the door latch is. Hope this helps but let me know so I can take pictures of what I am talking about

  22. Hmmmm...It seems that the rear of my GX hates me...

Has anyone removed the rear cargo door panel? My license plate screws are spinning when I try to removed them to install a new plate. My dealer wants to charge me $200 to swap the plates out. I think I should save the cash and do it myself. Has anyone ever had this problem?

You have to take the rear door panel off. First you have to lift your handle and remove the two prongs that hold the handle. (No Screws) Once that is removed, slip a screwdriver to release the tension. (It is like an expandable prong) The only screw is located under the cover for the top strap of the Lexus first aid kit is. Once that is removed, carefully find a place to pull the panel and you should start hearing snap after snap as you pull it away from the door. Tricky part is near the rear window. It snaps towards the window wiper. Once you get started it will all make sense. The reverse bulb will be visible once all this is done. Good luck

  23. Does any one know how to replace the reverse light without taking to the lexus dealer.:whistles::whistles:
