  1. I have a 2001 GS300 and about three weeks ago my Airbag Warning Light started blinking for no reason and after no maintenance was performed. I read some of the forums and tried the "jiggle the wires" solution with no luck. Yesterday while doing an oil change at Toyota I had the codes read and was surprised to see "several" codes were in. They were: B0112, B0117, B1162 and B1167. All these codes were essentially for circuit grounds. Is it possible that I have this many grounds at once or could it be some kind of ECM fault. I might add that I live in Ontario, Canada and these codes did come in while we were having a real cold snap. We've since had some mild above freezing weather but that didn't seem to help, but I could still have some moisture problems. Any insight you could give or experiences to share on similar problems like this would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Thanks Hacker. I'm going to send you a message with my e-mail. Just curious, what are you "trying" where the ashtray goes? I'd like to put a sunglass holder there. I love my GS but i can't believe it doesn't have a sunglass holder.
  3. I need a front center ashtray for an '01 GS300 but can't find one anywhere on e-bay or any online Lexus parts sites. I just need the part that slides out not the entire ashtray. I'm sure it must be the same for many other models. Does anybody know of anywhere online I can get one? (I think the dealer wants $35 or something silly for it) On a related note does anybody know of any junkyards in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) that have any Lexus GS models or Lexus used parts? PS: I don't smoke and wouldn't let anybody smoke in my Lexus, I just keep my change in there!
  4. I don't know much about the suspension in these cars but do you just need the springs and struts for the front? What's a ball park figure for a spring/strut mod? Are coilovers better?...I believe they are more expensive aren't they.
  5. Yes, I haven't checked prices yet but I figured that. I just bought a set of winters on 16" rims so now I have two sets of 16's and will probably stick with them. I'm not big on doing mods but may consider a spring/strut mod somewhere down the road.
  6. My '01 GS300 has stock 225/55/16 wheels (Michelin Pilot A/S) and I would like to go to a lower profile tire. I was wondering if the upgrade to 245/45/17's would make much of a difference in handling. Has anyone made that change, is it worth it. I don't think I want to go to an 18" or greater.

  8. Thanks DC, and my "new" 2001 GS is far superior to a lot of other actaul new cars I test drove. sakataj....do you know where I can get one of these new tray compartments....is it strictly a dealer part?
  9. Hello Folks. I'm new to this forum as I just purchased a Silver 2001 GS300 in March of this year. I've been reading this forum since then and think it's great. I've gotten lots of good info, although some of it such as many of the "hidden" features are contained in the owners manual. I've paid special attention to the forums and DIY's regarding the door actuator problem since the only defect in my 2001 was a defective power lock on the rear passenger side. I've since bought a replacement actuator online ($230) and replaced it myself. If anyone is reluctant to tackle this job all I can say is that it pretty easy and can be accomplished by even the most novice do-it-yourselfer. It took me about an hour or so only because I had a problem removing the old unit once it was disconnected. I found that it was hanging up on the "child lock" lever so I just snapped that off since I wouldn't be re-using the old unit. After that it came out easy and installing the new unit was a cinch. I would say if I had to do this again I could accomplish the complete job in about 30 mins. Of course this was a rear unit and the front unit, especially the drivers side, would be a little more complicated with the additional hardware and wiring. Just a note I did not have to remove the window and completed the replacement with the window completely up. I really like my GS300 and I'm pleased and proud to be a Lexus owner. It's an excellent car and a great mixure of sport and luxury, with Toyota realiabilty to boot. I will say that the car is a little "floaty" on the road compared to the Nissan Maxima SE I'm coming off of, but I do like the soft ride on the highway. I was just wonder if a change to a wider low-profile tire would help the cornering, as it has the stock 225/55/16's on it now (Michelin Pilot A/S). I don't think I would like to go bigger than 17" but I'm not sure that the matching 245/45/17's will make much difference. Can anybody who's made that change comment on this? Also I have just two small complaints, a ski pass through or split folding rear seat would be handy and why can't Lexus find a place for a sunglass holder!
