  1. The navigation drive is located under the front passenger seat. Run the seat all the way forward and then you can get it from the rear seats. I'll pm you some more info.
  2. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364641 The link is the second thread you posted. The original poster didn't fully test the system out, and he only saw the new map data and never tried to fully enter in a destination. A 7.1/4.2 disc won't let you navigate anywhere, which defeats the purpose. Read the thread to the last page where others test it out and find the fault, which the OP admits to as well.
  3. As he has a gen4 system, he won't be able to make a hybrid disc with a 7.1 disc. The best he could use would be a 6.1/5.1 hybrid.
  4. Your gen2 system (like many others) has a weak laser and has difficulty reading a backup. I'm sorry to say but you can upgrade directly from version 2.1 to version 7.1, so you may want to get back to the seller. You can return to version 2.1 by pulling the fuse for your navigation system (check owner's manual or fuse sheet) for 3 minutes with no disc in the drive, and then inserting the old disc. The software should load. If you can't find the fuse, you can pull the negative terminal cable to the battery for 3 minutes and then load the disc, but you may have to reprogram your stations and other memory settings if present. Good luck!
  5. They were taken out starting from release 6.1.
  6. Did you remove the fuse for the navigation system?
  7. The old disc is located in your glove box. Open the glove box door. Turn on the ACC power in your vehicle. Press the MENU button. Then look at the top left or top right of the screen for the MAP DVD button. Press it. Then press EJECT DVD. Insert new dvd.
  8. I would get it towed to a dealer or indy mechanic. Common mistake. I don't believe filling the tranny is a DIY job.
  9. Bluetooth tech has not been totally standardized. Yes it can route calls to the connect system, but transferring phonebook data, call logs, signal strength, etc still have yet to be standardized.
  10. You may want to set the correct position before you leave for your trip tomorrow when you are in a known location. "Menu" -> Press "Setup" Touch page down twice (page 3 of 3) Press "Calibration" Press "Position/Direction" Touch the eight directional touch screen buttons to move the cursor to the desired point on the map. Hopefully it will keep its location correct once you set its present location.
  11. Empty the navigation drive. Remove the fuse for the navigation / tv system (not sure how the fuse is labeled in your model year) for 3 minutes. Reinsert fuse. Insert original navigation disc. Wait for the software to load. Your story doesn't quite add up or you are changing some details it seems to me. Either way, you don't clearly state what the problem is with the navigation system (ie what shows up on the screen), but I'm pretty sure this will solve your issues. Good luck. Did you really expect someone to go through a similar issue as the one you described?
  12. Filing a single comp claim shouldn't raise your rates, and if you have coverage with full glass, there may not even be a deductible. You can pose the question to your agent hypothetically. How did you break it? Just curious.
  13. Yes replace the navigation disc that is currently in the drive under your front passenger seat.
  14. I would guess that your RX350 had version 6.1 installed. They should have looked at what towns and cities were updated since your release to the newest 7.1 version. Since they specifically told you that the streets in your area were going to be included on the update (which they weren't), the dealer would be responsible for the error and not Lexus.
  15. Hey thanks for that info. No wonder I've never seen threads on gen 2/3 hybrid discs! I have read of a thread where someone with a gen4 system was successful with a 7.1/4.1 hybrid. It was made a bit differently as he kept a few files from 4.1, and not just the loading.kwi file. I'll try and find it now.
  16. Well that's why people are making their own custom discs: with the latest 7.1 navigational data/maps and the older 5.1 "software" so they can run the latest maps with override. Gen 5 - 7.1 maps / 5.1 software Gen 4 - 7.1 maps / 4.1 software Gen 2/3 - 7.1 maps / ?? (not sure what people have been successful with)
  17. Not true. The graphic quality and display icons are dependent on generational hardware and are not software dependent.
  18. Well those are really the ONLY ways to accomplish what you want to allow. You will have to either 1) install an after-market device 2) create a hybrid navigation disc (7.1/5.1 in a generation 5 system) 3) change the harness wiring behind the nav unit Lexus/Toyota has specifically changed the software to ban access to the override menu in the newer software since version 6.1 (we are currently on version 7.1). If you want access to the override menu or use the navigation functions while in motion, you will have to do one of the three steps above.
  19. I would try to contact upper management at the dealership: the owner, floor manager, etc., and explain the situation and how you are not happy with the situation. Be calm and reasonable as no one wins if anyone gets heated and starts screaming or using expletives. Try to keep it as a business transaction, as professional as possible. If that doesn't work, then I would go the route of the BBB, as they will contact the dealership and get a response from them to make it official and the you are able to comment back to the BBB on whether you liked their response.
  20. Have you been cleaning the sunroof tracks of dirt/debris and replacing the old grease with new grease? If not, I would imagine that was one way the sunroof was damaged without much operation. If the sunroof is still stuck open, there is a manual way to close the sunroof with a crank. Check the owner's manual for specifics on that. I don't really see how the wiring could be damaged. I would almost think that it went off track rather than the motor or wiring going out. If there was a burning smell or smoke, then I could see the motor or wiring being damaged, but you didn't mention either of those. You could take the car in to a auto glass specialist and get it repaired/replaced for less than $3500. Good luck.
  21. Not sure about the climate in Alabama, but it's the cold cranking amps (CCA) that is the most important feature in the battery, along with the size. Get the correct sized battery with the same or more CCA's as your original battery, and you will be set. There are really only a handful of battery manufacturers, and so many are the same battery, just re-branded with a different company name.
  22. Had to get a sensor replaced with the run-flat and TPMS options in a 2006 GS300.
  23. I think you are confusing the generation (2/3) of your navigation hardware with the most current version (7.1) navigation software. But the answer would be yes, you can upgrade directly to version 7.1 on your generation 2/3 system (doesn't matter your current software version).
  24. What do you mean by "resetting" the navigation system? Clearing memory points? To connect your phone by bluetooth, you have to set up the car's bluetooth to be ready to sync with a new phone, and then have the phone look for available bluetooth connections, and then enter the correct pin.
