  1. thank you rice, dcfish. Last question before I have the solenoid replaced: After the pan comes off, assuming everything is fixed..would this mean I'll have to refill the trans fluid? If yes how many quarts am I looking at bc I'll just head out and buy a case or so from toyota dealer.
  2. thank you for the reply. I had minor service done at the dealer and they mentioned that aside from the shift solenoid, my oil looks great for 120K and there seem to be no other problems with it. Yet they were still trying to sell me a 3500 rebuild. I'll take a shot at having the shift solenoid replaced by an independent mechanic. Lexus said that the shift solenoid "C" is $190. Would I need to purchase any other parts in conjunction with the C solenoid? Also, I'm assuming the transmission has to come off the car in order for the solenoid to be replaced.. is this correct? My current mileage is 120K
  3. '98 LS400 with 120K miles. Check engine light is on with a P0763 code, "Shift Solenoid C." I took it to the dealer and they basically suggested I buy a new trans. The shift solenoid is $190, new tranny $3,500+ ... Dealer said the trans oil looks clean, and I've changed it approx every 40K miles since I've owned the car. Its having a hard time shifting in between higher gears, and takes longer than usual to shift down when I press the gas. Would it make sense to replace the shift solenoid, or is my transmission on its way out?
  4. Is it dangerous to replace the upper control arm with a brand new aftermarket part? The company is called Advance and offers the UCA with new ball joints and bushings. Anyone have experience with aftermarket UCA's? '98 LS400 Thanks
  5. I've been recently told that I should consider flushing my power steering on my '98 LS400. It has 114K miles and I believe the power steering fluid has never been touched. Is it dangerous or beneficial to have a flush done? Thank you
  6. yup denso is jap, oem bosch is german Bosch is $141 Denso is $205
  7. I need to replace my starter on the 98 LS400. Is there a difference between brands? My options are Bosch or Denso, both remanufactured.
  8. Whenever I go over deep pot holes, or speed bumps at low or high speeds I hear a very hard tumping sound. It sounds as if someone hits the wheel with a baseball bat. The ride remains smooth and the impact is absorbed, but it sounds as if something is about to snap any minute. Also, when I go over a speed bump or uneven road surface at a slow speed, I hear a steady, repeating, creaking sound. This sounds like someone is opening a door in a horror movie. Both sounds seem to be coming from the front passengers side wheel. Would anyone be able to clue me into which parts I may be needing to replace? Thank You!
  9. I just had my key computer reprogrammed because for some odd reason my car wouldn't start. Everything is fine now except: Now when I lock the car using the key remote, the lights blink, but there is no "audible confirmation." -- The horn or chirp doesn't sound when I lock or unlock the doors. I know its no biggy but I was just wondering if this was some kind of feature that I can enable or disable. If not, what would I have to do to go about having it turned on. Thanks in advanced!
