  1. Took my 04 RX into the Lexus dealership today after finding out last night that both HID headlights were inoperable. My spouse normally drives this vehicle and had been driving the car in the dark with only DRL's and fog lights for who knows how long!!!! No clue the headlights were even out. Upon mentioning the headlights, I find out "We got a letter in the mail a few weeks ago about the headlights". The inside of the lens have very heavy condensation. Initially, I was told the cost would be covered completely by Lexus. Then upon the service writer returning to have me sign paperwork, I was informed that Lexus WOULD NOT cover the cost of new HID bulbs which will be around $180/ each, I need two of course. I questioned why Lexus wouldn't cover the bulbs as well since their components had poor construction to allow the moisture to remain inside ultimately leading to them failing. SW had no clue. I came home and called Lexus Customer Service and spoke with Liz. She had to update all my information, I purchased this vehicle new at this dealership. She will "elevate my claim to a superior and let me know something". I suppose this won't help me tomorrow when I have to shell out $400.00 for headlight bulbs!! They cared enough about me to mention that they would give me a loaner Lexus because the "lights out" situation created a safety hazard, I'm sure this was just a cya move to prevent liability. Any advice? Anyone get them to cover bulb cost as well? TIA
  2. This is a well documented problem with the RX's cd player. Either remove and replace it with a new unit or see if an audio store can repair your unit (better off getting a new unit from Lexus if you can afford it *$7-800* or just go aftermarket with a plug to allow the steering wheel controls to continue to work). My solution was to transfer my discs to my ipod/ iphone, now I don't have to fool with discs or cases all over the place. YMMV. Very soon you'll be looking for speakers for the lower front doors. I'm at 144,000 miles, driver side replaced, now passenger side is going.... Ray
  3. I encountered this same problem this summer. My problem ended up being one of the cooling fans was not operating correctly. I could bump the housing and it would come on, but after a while it would stop working again. This was also causing my engine temperature to register higher if I was stopped at traffic lights or left engine running. The fix was replacing the driver side cooling fan assembly. I replaced the ECM for the fans myself: $359.00 then ended up paying another $500.00 for the fan and the dealership to replace it. Good Luck on your fix Ray
  4. Can someone point me to what the TSB entails, I can't find it after searching. Thanks Ray
  5. Hey rod, any solution yet? I'm in the Jackson, MS area here. Are you using Herrin-Gear? Ray
  6. My rain sensor works fine with a non-oem windshield and it did with the previous non-oem ws. Lexus would love to have you think otherwise.
  7. 2004 Bamboo Pearl RX 330 Prem with navi, ML sound, Rear DVD Purchased: March 2003, 1st one sold in Jackson, MS (special ordered) Price: $45,180. Current mileage: 85190 2 family members Pros: Great highway traveler, comfortable, very reliable, outstanding interior quality Cons: When new too many TSB's, dash rattle (TSB performed), fuel injector tick, thin paint, poor transmission shifting Overall very pleased with auto and dealership experience Purchased from Herrin Gear Lexus Jackson, MS
  8. The anti-theft system may have needed time to wake up or recogonize the key (??). If the system does not recognize the key, it will not allow the cylinder to be turned. A discharged battery could also be the culprit of a key cylinder failing to turn. Ray
  9. Is it all of them or just at one door? My ds door was replaced under warranty. Not sure if you are still under warranty. Looks as though it could be popped out with some careful nudging (tapped flathead drivers). Careful though it bends very easily. Ray
  10. I'm on my second non OEM windshield and think it is foolish to pay >$1000 for something that is only going to get chipped/broken the next time you drive down the street. I have the auto wipers and navi and they both function correctly. The first ws replacement was $600.00 but that was in late 04 when the vehicles were fairly new. Last one was $300.00. No wavy glass or visual imperfections. Ray
