  1. Hi all...

Sadly my LS430 was rear ended while I sat at a stop light. The damage is minimal but I will need a new bumper. Yesterday, I noticed that my dash lights appeared to be on the brightest setting which I don't normally use. However, it is on the lowest setting. This morning, the entire dash blacked out several times on my drive to work. It was like a flash. They would go dark then reappear. After that it didn't happen again. Is this related to my rear end collision? Didn't have any issues prior to the accident.

    Thanks for the help!

  3. I've had this creaking noise in my '05 LS430 for perhaps 2 yrs; been back to 2 different dealerships on a couple of occasions each. They tried everything and everything worked...for a while, never more than 6-8 weeks. Hasn't anyone written to or called Lexus "home office" to complain about this. A "$65,000" car with creaking windows!!!!

    Ted.

    you must've read my mind!

the other day i emailed customer service and included the link to this thread.

will let you know how they respond.

  4. i don't know too much about technical aspects, but hands down this is the best car i've ever owned. it does everything it's supposed to do in a fashion far superior to any car i've owned or driven. i plan on having this car for years to come and believe that i will have nothing more to do other than routine maintenance. take the plunge...you won't regret it! :)

  5. Correction: The first stuff I tried yesterday was a teflon spray. That definitely didn't help anything. I just went and bought a $3 can of spray silicone at Napa and it seemed to do the trick. Now just wonder how long it will last. In the meanwhile, I ordered a bottle of the Sonus stuff. Thanks for the ideas, everyone.

i think you will be much happier with the sonus. i tried the silicone spray and wasn't as happy with it.

when using the sonus spray i get about 2 good months of creaky-less driving. :) i live in socal and the drier the weather the creakier the windows. i've got it down to a pretty good/quick appplication now. i use a rag w/ sonus around the door panels and on/around the rubber on the door seals. also, i use a foam-wedge-on-a-stick w/ sonus to get up into where the window sits when its up.

i really love this car and the creakiness is my only complaint - which i can live with. :)

  6. Recent trip from SoCal to Vegas got me 28.8 mpg, air on almost the entire time, considering it topped out at 109 degrees in Baker. yikes!

when possible, had cruise control set at 75 - only went over that mph once, when passing someone.

  7. Because snow starts the car in second gear and omits first, thats all it does. It probably wouldn't hurt the transmission either, it automatically cuts the snow mode off probably to keep people from complaining about drivability issues when people forget to shut it off.

thanks for the response. i had read somewhere that using ect snow may improve gas mileage, any truth to that? i've used it quite a few times (even though it's summer and snowless here in Southern California) and found that i kind of enjoy the slower take-off from a standstill. i will stop using it if it may cause future problems, though.

    thanks again!

  8. i suggest u dont leave this switch on all the time as its not good for the tranny

It won't hurt anything to leave it on all the time. The changes in the shift points are very slight. You don't want to leave it in ECT SNOW all the time, and if you notice the car automatically switches ECT SNOW off when you shut the engine off, but it leaves ECT PWR on.

out of curiousity, why is it ok to leave it in POWER but not SNOW?

  9. Hi, all!

Haven't had to post too much since (thankfully) problems with my LS are few and far between!

I noticed this evening as I drove home that my normal "evening" setting of 75 degrees didn't seem as warm as usual. Bumped it up to 80 degrees and seemed the same. Didn't notice heat until it got to the HOT setting (86 degrees, I believe). At that point it was blazing hot! Let it run for a few seconds, took it down one degree and seemed to blow cooler again, with what seemed to be little or no heat, just cool. It's only happened this one time and I will see if it persists tomorrow. Outside temp was between 68-70 degrees.

Just thought I would put it out there to see if any others have/had this type of problem.

    Thanks!

  10. On Thanksgiving Day, a few years ago, driving from Stockton, CA to Portland, OR, I was pulled over SOLELY for tinted windows. I was in Redding, CA. Driving totally normal since my roommates folks were in the back seat. I had the graduated tint where it's lightest on the two front windows, darker on the two back windows, and darkest on the rear window. After I got the tint removed I went to get the ticket written off and the cop (here in Costa Mesa) said they would never ticket for such a light tint in SoCal.

  11. OK guys, here goes. The car arrived on Nov 1. Since the car was delivered on a car hauler from Miami, the exterior was extremely dirty upon arrival. After a thorough inspection, the interior is a TEN, the paint is a EIGHT, under the hood is a TEN. This car rides and drives like a LS should. Very smooth, quick and quiet. From my perspective, the one owner was particular about the inside - extremely clean and undamaged. However, it looks like he washed it - maybe - once-a-month. No dents, typical surface scratches, bird droppings underneath the clearcoat. The trusty clay bar will be applied this weekend.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my second ebay auto purchase (my '98 ES was my first). Of course, I now have the difficult job of pursuading my wife of "letting me drive" it on occasion.

congrats! glad you're happy with it! :)

  12. I guess I must have had different luck...

I had a 96 maxima and sold it with 113k miles on it after replacing countless O2 sensors, MAF sensor, Knock Sensor, brakes, Clutch, and multiple headlights... it was an expensive car for me and I take care of my cars!

Must have just been a dud!

Loved my 96 Maxima SE - Stillen package and all. BUT I, too, had too many problems with it. Finally sold it with almost 200k miles on it. Had the 02 sensor problems, starter problems, and knock sensor problems. The major killer was when the wiring harness went - wow! That was a costly repair!

  13. Well...here's some good news...the creaking is (almost) completely gone. The only time I heard it on my most recent drive was when I slowy drove around a corner that has a speed dip. Just a slight creak, but SO much better than before.

These are the things I have done (there are several, so I'm not sure exactly which one helped the most):

    Day #1

    - silicone sprayed all 4 window seals

    - applied olive oil (yes, olive oil!) to lubricate the inside crevices that the windows slide up and into when closed

    Day #2

    - applied more silicone spray to the crevices and the window seals (this is when the creaking started to get better, but the windows were slightly down)

    - after reading jainla's post, I applied silicone spray to the rubber around the door frame

    - drove to carwash (creaking much improved)

    - got car washed and drove home with the windows completely up and...THE CREAKING WAS GONE!!! :) :) :)

Like I said I'm not sure which step made the difference, or if it was a combination of them all. I'm thinking that maybe jainla's tip about treating the rubber around the doors really helped!

Hopefully this will be a long-term fix, but we'll wait and see!

So nice to have my quiet ride back again!

  14. Thanks, jainla...

I just ordered a bottle of the Sonus. Can't wait to give it a try.

So, I should be treating the door seals, as well? The problem is definitely improved when I put the windows down just a tiny bit. That's what makes me think it's the windows. Did you treat the rubber seals up and inside the window, or just the exposed portions?

The car is such a nice and quiet (for the most part :) ) ride that this is so irritating!

One other thing I forgot to note is that while I was gone the car did sit in 100 degree weather for a couple of days. I'm sure that probably had some kind of effect.

    Thanks for the help!
