when the RPM lower 2000 the engine knocking ,is that mechanical problem? if mechanical so how much is the cost? Thank you

Hi all, i have a gs 300 1998, , when rpm higher 2000 no problem if lower 2000 the engine knocking , check engine light and vsc, vsc off on, i disconnect the battery and 15 min and starter engine no problem, i drive on highway 15 miles no problem but when i go with rpm lower 2000 rpm on city street the engine knocking and check engine light on again , please help me .
