  1. Thank you, I went to an auto upholstery shop and the guy told me $750.00 for the bottom of just the driver's seat, that seems outrageous...went to another guy and he said $500.00 so I'll keep looking I guess. Does anyone know anything about wrecking yards or salvage companies where it might be possible to find a couple of front seats? Stu
  2. The front seat bottoms on my 1994 LS 400 have cracked and torn apart the past year, and I'm wondering what advice anyone has about repairing or replacing them or the leather as needed. Thanks, Stu
  3. I'm new and don't know the lay of the land, but that seems to defeat the whole purpose of a private information sharing forum. Are these sites focused on business interests over member interests? I'm just asking.
  4. I'm in San Francisco and am the 2nd owner of a 1994 LS 400 and the upholstery has suddenly worn through in a couple of spots. The leather is a kind of dark putty color and the exterior paint is kind of a champagne. Everything about this car is cherry and it runs perfectly but it seems like the upholstery all of a sudden just gave out. I was thinking of reupholstering but the bids came in starting at $500.00 per seat. Is there a source to buy used seats anyone knows of? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  5. Power steering pump

  6. I took it to the Garage and one of their mechanics looked at it and checked the power sterring fluid right away and added some and then bled the steering by turning the steering wheel back and forth for about five minutes and the noise disappeared almost completely. It's a very slow leak they think and is OK for now. Down the road the pump should be replaced they say, and a factory pump is about $250.00 with about $350.00 in labor for between $500.00 and $600.00 they think. Does that sound reasonable and what lese could pop up when they do that? Thanks, Stu
  7. I bought a 1994 LS 400 and before purchasing I took it to AAA for their diagnostic evaluation and they had a couple of minor recommendations which I took care of but after buying the car I started hearing a grinding type noise when I turn the steering wheel when driving. I also have no dashboard lights for about five minutes after starting the car in the morning. I've been taking the car to a small independent repair and maintenance shop called The Garage on 10th Street in San Francisco where I live and they're fine folks but after the last service and $650.00 service and repair the grinding noise has grown worse. They had said I might have to eventually replace the power steering pump and talked about over $1000.00 for that job and between $500.00 and $1400.00 for the dashboard instrument lighting unit. Did I buy a car that is going to be a real expensive problem. It has only 84000 miles and I bought it from the original owner supposedly, but I'm worried and it really sucks up gas more than any car I've ever owned. I'd love any advice or suggestions from others who have any experience. Thanks
