wow, that's sheer craziness! Yeah, a junkyard may have one or talk to the dealer to get ideas, maybe they can suggest something & since Lexus was one of the few that did the resin grey panels back in the day...

  2. Well, bought my "92 a couple of weeks ago. Has a problem where a puddle of rust was under the car before I got in to drive. Looked under engine & saw several areas that looked like a paintball gun shot rust balls under the hood. Couldn't see a leak of any kind so I kept driving. Car stopped for a second on an exit ramp :o & went home to look at engine again. Noticed that coolant reservior was empty. Went to put some in, drove around block, completely empty. Check radiator & tank, full of rust. Did some other things, but had to take in to Goodyear thinking I was going to pay 40 or 50 bucks for a flush & for them to find leak to no avail. I will pay as of this evening, $1350 :( for a new water pump, some hoses, timing belt (which of course has to be replaced along with water pump BUT was replaced 30k mi ago .) The hoses, I believe the heater hose specifically caused the major leak because the rust was eating inside out...but it's well worth it. I won't complain. Bought the car for 3600 with 129k mi on it & the guy at goodyear said it was worth it considering it's actually been taken care of & maintained properly with the exception of what he's fixing.

And I had two master keys. However, neither one had the spring behind the bump on the side to lock/unlock. My wife's key still has that but I happened to find the old key I got from a dealer as a kid fanatic and used the part from it...saved me $300! ;)

All in all, it's been an ok ride for now...

Regardless & even though I want a RR Silver Shadow when it comes out, I'll still have my '92 ES in my driveway (a dream I had 15 years ago) B)

Well, took the car back home after picking it up. After sitting in the driveway for a few, it began leaking coolant in addition to the fan still running like crazy. Took the car back in & they say I need a new radiator!!!!! I told them that I asked if everything else was ok after they fixed the hoses & such & they said yes. The guy says, well there is a small pinhole leak in the radiator, however, the mechanic didn't think anything of it & figured it was ok. I'm like WTF?!?!?!? He said it would be another 400 bucks. I told him I'm not giving them sh*t else. So he's waiting on the manager to get back on Monday. I told him I am expecting the radiator to be replaced for free considering I just paid 1300 bucks. I could have had it replaced also for that astronomical amount! So we'll see what happens...but I am NOT giving Goodyear ANY more of my money! Instead of a good year, it has now become a bad year! :(

I ended up paying 237 for the part, no labor...

Now I have to take it back because they did something to my steering...I hate Goodyear!!!!!

Took it back & let the guy drive it with me inside b'c it was making THREE different noises that it had not before. He looked at it, and some clamps & such needed to be tightened, apparently my power stereing fluid was low even though I had checked it. Well now everything seems to be in order...and after that little bit of trouble... :(

  4. The cooling fan on the 94 ES is hydraulic. It is operated by power steering fluid being pumped from the power steering pump. It sounds like you have a leaking hose or a leaking connection point.

Youre the greatest man, I will check first thing in the morning CUman. Thanks a million!!!

May I ask what kind of fluid was leaking - or what did it look like & how much? I have a leak as though a hose burst but I can't see where it's coming from. Some of the parts are covered with a rust-color fluid though & something that looks like oil was on the ground yesterday.

  5. I'm not sure if anyone has ever experienced it before, but has anyone ever smelled the new car smell of the early 90's models? I am trying to figure out if I can get the new car smell that the older models had. Is there maybe some type of product on the market? That was probably the best smell I've ever smelled in a new car EVER! and I want it in my older model!!!! :cries:

    thnx

  6. Im thinking about buying this blank wireless transmitter key off of ebay for my 1992 ES300. I have a Valet key that doesnt have the button on the side to unlock and lock the doors. I'd love it if i did. I called my local lexus dealer, and even went over there, and they claimed its 225.00 for a new key, and 50.00 for programming. I think this is a rip off! Almost 300 dollars for a new key, and my car is about 16 years old. I know there are methods for programming keys for lexus but i dont know if theres one that will work for my 92, does anyone know any more info about this? Thanks

Let me know if it works for you. I called the dealer also & they told me 230 +60! I was thinking the same thing. 16 year old car & 300 dollars, no sir, not gonna happen!

If you find a good place to buy the keys, let me know also. I've been looking & couldn't find one. thnx

  7. I have the same problem on my '92. I noticed that it does it occasionally when the car is in drive but idle, like at a red light. I did notice though that while sitting in a drive-thru & I put the car in park it would stop but start again if I put it in drive and continue sitting still. The clicking also continued as I would push the gear knob in right before changing gears. Let me know if you find out anything. I just want to make sure it doesn't cause me to be stalled on the side of the road with both a 2 & 1 year old! :cries:

  8. Can keys be bought & programmed for a '92 (ES300) as well? I called the dealer & I am NOT paying $232 for the key plus $60 for programming!?!?!?!

If it were the newer fob, maybe - but the old basic fob, c'mon. Also, can the newer fob be programmed to my older model? I'm guessing probably not.

  9. Hello All:

I'm 25 now but every since I was a young boy, I've wanted a '92 ES300. Well I finally found one in great condition, jade pearl metallic/tan leather for $3,600 with 129k mi. I'm loving it already & have only driven it twice so far. I've had 2 Camr(ies), an Ion, a Taurus, & a Mountaineer & nothing I'd say is better. I love it & want to keep everything stock or OEM, especially the rims! Only thing I will be changing (maybe) are the headlights. I'm thinking of putting HIDs in. Any thoughts on that?

Only thing is - finding new keys at a good price. The seller gave me two master keys, but the bump on the side is missing from both!!! But that's for another forum!

    Cheers!
