How come when I turn on the heater (Crank up the temp to 80ish, and press auto) the A/C light is still on? Blows warm as it should, but just curious.

well that dealer is located in an area where people don't have too much money (no offense to them). The dealer near my area quotes 1400 for the water pump and the belt, so right off the bat..15 miles apart and 500 dollar difference. Do you think the cam seals are necessary--i dont really know what they are so..Thanks.

I have heard of two service intervals for the timing belt. I've heard of the 120K and the 90K. All of my local Lexus Dealers said 90K while the Toyota dealership said 120K and some of you have said 120K. The cheapest Lexus dealer charges 450 for the timign belt and 860 for both the water pump and timing belt plus a loaner car for the day. Are those fair prices? I have 95K miles on the car, do you think i should get the services done ASAP? Also, what else can I expect the dealer to truthfully tell me to have replaced/repaired on the car at this mileage?

When do I repair spark plugs on my 95 SC400? With What kind, platinum or iridium?

I didn't own the car intially because my niece did and I don't know what happened, but the "full-size" spare tire was 245/something/16 when I bought the car and I realized that's not the car's OE tire size, so I switched that tire for an OE size (225/55/16). I don't know if that larger size was how the car was when it was purchased or if some mechanic secretly swapped out the tires..

I have a 95 SC400 and I was wondering what do your spare tire wheel/rims look like? Are they a steel tire with "holes" all around the edge of the wheel or are they the standard alloy wheel tha came with the car? Thanks.

I got some of his info, he's a company employee also, so I can always use his employee number..(may have failed to mention that)....in the scratches, I do see like black and some red (odd combination) maybe?...his car was a dark blue color. I don't think he's insured, but I have insurance so things should work out. I just hope they can replace the bumper and alloy wheel so my car will have a matching front bumper color and new wheel. I'd rather spend a little bit more to have nice, new parts anyhow. the previous owner was really "frugal" so I mean, and she's been in fender benders before, there are some scratches that aren't mine when I bought it so, it'd be nice to have a replacement. It's 350 for a wheel and 350 for a bumper.

Hi Yesterday, some idiot was backing out and scratched the right side of my bumper and part of the alloy wheel. He came to me and said "I'm going to be honest with you, I hit you but I didn't cause those scratches-they were already there from another incident." I was like, okay, since you said you hit me, let's swap information, and he's like no, i hit you but didn't cause those scratches so I don't need to swap information with you and simply gives me his name and phone number and drives off." I was wondering if with those scratches I need to replace my bumper and alloy wheel. I would like to since the bumper is discolored (it's a bit beige while my car is white.) Is there any justification you can all think of to replace the two components instead of buffing it off?

I've spoken with a variety of Toyota dealerships. They all have told me taht they will do Lexus services. Toyota and Lexus are the same company; toyota designs the car and engines. If all of you feel very smart and confident in paying 150% to 200%+ more for "assurance", please tell me why you would spend that much more at the Lexus Dealership than the Toyota Dealership. The parts and labor are the same. The parts for a fact, are the same. A bottle of ATF-Type 4 at Lexus is $8, while Toyota only charges $4.

Whenever I turn my wheels either left or right at low speeds, less than 30 mph, I hear a grinding sound in throughout the passenger cabin and the car vibrates. I added enough power steering fluid but the problem still exists. Does anyone have any ideas?

I know this is hard to answer but...My front bumper and rear bumper are beige shades of white while the rest of the car is like white. How do I know which color is the right color? This car is supposed to be the Pearl White. it's a noticeable diffrence. Like, the bumper is a browner shade of white than the body which is "white" I know I wasnt able to explain the colors really well, but I hope u understand.

I have a 95 SC400, should I have a remote keyfob or just a key with a button? The previous owner misplaced the spare key and emergency key. How much are those from a dealer, on average?

My 95 SC400's Rear Right Taillamp has moisture in it. How do I get rid of it? If I need to remove it, how? Also, if i replaced it with another aftermarket replacement, would it cause any issues with the "Rear Tailamp Failure" System?

What are the known problems on a 1995 SC400 with 90,000 miles? What problems could I foresee as of this point? The maintenance costs at the Lexus Dealer are mind boggling, but the Toyota costs are more reasonable.

I have the exact same problem. I brought it into the dealer, they taped up the sunroof and we drove around at high speeds. There still was wind noise. They say it's "outside wind noise". there's no fix for it. My ES also has the same problem. and other toyotas I have been in. It seems Lexus doesnt believe in Wind Noise Deflectors, because a Nissan I have doesn't have wind noise at all.

Hi, whenever I park the car and the engine compartment becomes hot, because of the engine, and I come back a few hours later and turn on the fan, the fan blows out hot air for a really long time, even when I turn the temperature down to max. cold. Does anybody know if the car is supposed to blow out hot air like that for 30 minutes or is there soemthing wrong with the car? The A/C when turned on in thsi condition works fine and the heater works fine too. and BTW, whenever I turn on the heater, the passenger's top vent closest to the door on the right of the glovebox always blows out cool air even when the "mode" is set to feet only.

Hello everybody. Please provide me with any input that you may have about this problem. Whenever the engine is at idle and the A/C is on, and I shut down the A/C, the car stalls (Engine shuts off). The dealer was like, it might be the fuel pump...but I have no idea about the car's condition. I bought it from my niece, who brought the car to the dealer for the first 50,000 miles, and after that up until 80,000 miles, the car was barely maintained. Also, does not following the break in period affect the cars longevity?

I have a 95 SC400. Leaked about 3 times during my 6 month (as of now) ownership. The reason was a loose oil filter on all 3 occasions. Hasn't leaked since I replaced the oil filter with a Pennzoil. I believe it was a poor quality oil filter that caused the loosening.

I understand your concern about the cost of maintenance. I am very price conscious as well on maintenance. The best choice for tires, strictly in my opinion, is to go to Costco Wholesale for tires. They are reasonably price and provide excellent customer service. Also, if you look in the maintenance guide, you can go to any mechanic that advertises experience in Lexus vehicles, and request that they do the following maintenance items per your maintenance requirement. Also, if you prefer the "dealership experience," then you can always go to most Toyota dealerships for the identical repair for significantly less. Toyota is offering to replace my timing belt for 390 while Lexus is 600+. Most dealerships will service your car.

I have a 95 SC400 in the United States...and it used to stall at idle when the A/C was turned off, whcih means the defroster will do the same...My mechanic said to simply clean the idle control Unit, or replace it...Lexus dealers-$600 or so..
