  1. I understand this is a terrible response but... It really depends on the temp in your car; however, the heater should be at a low setting, if the temp set is relatively close to the current car temp. It really is a matter of logic, whether the fan speed is adequately cooling/heating your car. Does the temp of the air seem okay?
  2. here's my beauty haha Those are the 95 and later for a few years...probably up to 96-97 stock SC 300 and 400 rims since in 95 they standardized the two cars to have the same rim I believe.
  3. I'm outta warranty by like 4K miles..do you think there's anyway of having them fix it as a courtesy or anything i could say to help them? I think this is a big time safety issue for the car.
  4. Hi, as you guys can tell, I am an owner of a 95 SC400. I now own a 2001 Acura 3.2 TL. I am having a problem with it and am hoping you guys can advise me a little bit on it. The TL, when I let go of the accelerator pedal after accelerating keeps a constant RPM and speed for about 5-15 seconds. The RPM after I let go of the pedal doesn't change for a while and I have a concern this isn't normal. What could this be? Thanks for any advice you guys can give me.
  5. How long should I wait (rough estimate) for the wax to "dry to a haze"...and after i buff the wax off, should the surface be glossy and smooth? It seems after every time I wax, the car is rough. ( did i not let it dry to a haze?)
  6. everything except the audio control buttons in my car light up too. but hte names above or below the buttons, depending upon the audio device used, light up. Probably the design fo the car....i'm assuming
  7. The ATF Fluid is the same fluid used in the Power Steering System...as the cap on the power steering reservoir should say.. use Dexron II only, same fluid for the Automatic Transmission. So to sum it up, the ATF fluid is Type II/Dexron II, and that fluid is also used in the power steering.
  8. I just think and have heard from some car magazines that you can put in regular, and if it doesn't cause any knock, then stick with it. Although, let's take a 20 gallon tank for example, the extra cost of $.30 for premium versus regular adds up to $6.00? You can justify the cost based on your budget, never let anyone just say "you drive a lexus, you can afford it, you should spring for it." I am very conservative with my money as you can probably tell, so IMO, just go for regular and see if it causes knock. However, most Lexus dealers and gasoline stations will just tell you to go for Premium fuel to support our wonderful little fuel makers.
  9. I read that the SC4's have some kinda apparatus that "retimes the engine" when it detects knock...so if you put in 87, the engine changes in accordance with the "knock (if any!)" ....that's true for the SC400 at least. I honestly am not a believer in premium fuel...I had no difference in performance when I put premium in my SC400. I doubt there will be any engine problems if you use regular. Not to be longwinded, but why would an ES300/330, which uses the same engine as the camry, "require" premium when the camry equivalent engine does not?
  10. The 95 comes with a safer structure, as ConsumerGuides.com will tell you. Secondly, the exterior of the 95 is more aggressive looking, in addition to better looking alloys. However, I have a 95 and it's retail with 97000 miles is 11,100 (around there) I would try to negotiate with the seller of the 1995 model. Granted, if you don't really care for the differences, then by all means, go for the 1992 and save some $.
  11. glad to hear that you're okay...and that the car is too. I didn't know rubbing compounds and all that polish/wax stuff could do those kinda things...hopefully, i'll never need to experience it first hand, but if I do, I'll know who to think of when I see the power of wax. :D
  12. Thing is, My pump is bad-I'm not sure if it's leaking. (Fluid at this point is holding steady...) The pump just makes this moaning/groaning noise oftentimes.) I am just concerned that hypothetically, if the pump is leaking, how long would it take before I know that it's leaking and the alternator has been affected? (I know a few of you already answered the question..just wanted to clarify that it most likely isn't leaking now..
  13. how logn does it take for leaking power steering pump to destroy the alternator?
  14. You didn't by any chance turn off your air conditioner at that time did you?
  15. Just outta curiosity, don't the cars come with lifetime seatbelt warranties? (not implying the seatbelts are broken, but hypothetically...)
  16. thanks for the insightful info. I'll look into getting the pump replaced myself...
  17. Hi, I have a 95 SC400 and whenever I turn the steering wheel, the car makes a groaning/moaning/whining sound. According to the Lexus Dealer, they said it could be either the Power Steering Pump, the High Pressure Hose, or both. The fluid's have gotten low, and in the past, I put it more when needed, and the noise stopped, but now, it just won't stop when I turn the wheel like it used to stop with the fluid addition. I do not know what to do, the cost of the repair is about 1300 hundred. Is there anyway of narrowing down what the problem is myself? I mean, how do I know if the pump is consuming too much fluid because it's dead or because there is a hose leak? Is the pump easy to remove/replace myself if I don't have a car jack?
  18. Is there a radio code for this car, IE: Enter a code/string of numbers, etc to restart the radio after a battery change or "resetting of radio settings"..? (95 SC400)
  19. just FYI, it's a 95 SC4, used, the one that my dad's driving now.....might get an old 95 ES to drive instead..i have no idea if i will be driving or not..they're all hte same to me..just wondering bout the cost that's all....this is in response to the first reply about my "loaded parents" who aren't loaded at all..
  20. how much would it cost for a 16 Y.O. driver who has no experience, obviously, cost for full coverage insurance on an SC4 in southern california? $1000 bi-annually?
  21. I was told that it "should be replaced at 90K by the Lexus guys, 120 K by the Toyota Service advisors. I have "heard" that the engine is a non-interference engine up to 97, when the car's engine came with VVti, and non interference is when the timing belt breaks and "there isn't any interference". I wouldn't wait until it breaks, but do it at 120K and then change it. It'll cost about 850-1400 to replace the timing belt and water pump, which u do at the same time. I gave u such a large range of prices because I was quoted 850 at a dealership 15 miles away from my house and 1400 at the 5 mile away dealership. I'm sure you can tell which dealership I am going to go to when I need service. My 95 SC has 96K, no noise from the belt, if there should be any when it's wearing. I would trust, or certainly hope the belt won't break until 120K....
  22. I have the same problem, please tell me how to clean idle control unit and where it locate. V/r Khoi Nguyen SC400 1995 kknguyen1168@yahoo.com ← He just got the idle control unit, which is a module located in front of the Air Filter intake hose and clean it out somehow..I wasn't really paying attention as to how he cleaned it.
  23. thanks for the info...it does make a whining sound...and that's hwen it's low on fluid...1200 dollars is a lot of money, IMO...cuz I was quoted 850 for a timing belt and water pump..so that pushes me over 2000 for those 3 things..yikes!
  24. I have a 95 SC4 that seems to be consuming too much Power Steering fluid (ATF-Type 4)....it will run out and be low like every two weeks, more or less....is it because the Pump is going or is it because of a leak in the cables? If it were leaking, would I see it under the car? How much would it cost from the dealer to get a new pump? (I know, I said dealer) If it's not the pump, what potential problem could it be? At the risk of being off topic, is my starter or alternator gonna die soon? I'm at 95K Miles, going to dealer at 120K miles to get my car's timing belt, water pump, and whatever else this car is gonna need to get replaced (P/S pump..im thinking and maybe starter and alternator)
  25. Where's a good place to get the leather seats replaced? Also, wat's a good leather care product? mine are getting hard in certain places and show signs of wear...and sun damage...so what could reverse that, if possible or make it better at least and prevent severe cracking?
