  1. I have an ES330 and had Michelin Primacy twice on past 330s, however the folks at Costco today said these are phasing out and they could offer me Michelin's replacement which is the Premier. My new 16 inch 215/60s performed well for responsiveness and handling, however, I really think that there is a little more tire resistance with these. My reason for thinking this is that I felt like when I let off the accelerator, it slowed much faster, as well as my mileage was 5-10% worse on today's 200 mile highway drive right after having them installed, compared to the previous Primacy tires. Aside from mileage, they were quite responsive and smooth/straight driving.
  2. I just sold my 1997 ES 300 (Lexus trade in for a 2004 ES 330). I consider myself a mild "hypermiler" using most of the basic techniques, and NONE of the dangerous or controversial ones. My overall average MPG for about 50K miles was 28mpg. This was higher than most any other as compared on the website FUELLY.COM. How you drive makes a huge difference on the mileage between one driver and another using the same car.
  3. Based on the overwhelming support in this group for the Michelin Primacy MXV4s, I ran out today and outfitted my ES300 with four new ones. It didn't hurt that COSTCO has sale for $80 off a set of four right now. I was out the door with Washington State's high tax for about $550. I could tell the ride was a lot more quiet than the older worn Michelin X tires it replaced. I'm hoping to see better mileage too, stay tuned! The service person said he had the same tires on his 97 Accord and he thought these were the best too.
  4. 325,000?!!!!? wow, how did you do that? I would imaging that there was some major maintenance in there somewhere. Did you have any expensive items come up? I bought my 97 ES 300 last fall with 128K miles and have 135K now, It is a creampuff one owner car before I came along, with all maintenance done well. I just wanted to get an idea on things I can expect to come up in the next 3-4 years. I plan on spending for the 150K maintenance and changing oil every 3K. I was hoping I wouldn't have many other expenses. I'm sure glad to hear your mpg is still good at the high mileage. What have you found I should expect for maintenance problems?
  5. MILEAGE, HYPERMILEAGE DRIVING & TIRES I have a 97 ES 300 with 135K I purchased last year. I am a "hypermileage" driver and do about 70-80% highway at 55-60 MPH (in the slow lane). My overall average is about 26-27mpg. I once did almost strictly highway at conservative speed on a whole tank and got just over 30mpg. I'm in the process of upgrading from some fairly worn out tires to the high-end Michelin Primacy MXV4 this week and hope to get a quieter ride, better mileage, and an overall much better tire. It is quite expensive, listed on the Costco site at $143.99 (no surprise extra fees though, and total satisfaction guaranteed on all products...I'm a costco junky:), but they have a sale this week that will knock $60, I think, off the price of four tires. I did a lot of research on the ES 300 series and one of the threads showed this was the tire to stick with if at all possible for great performance all around. A few months ago I read a thread that recommended using a special fuel additive, I think to keep the injectors clean, but I really didn't notice any difference in mileage with that. I also read a thread discussing the advantages of upgrading to synthetic oil, but I decided not to do that after some of the responses suggested problems with gasket seals after doing this. For those of you thinking to yourselves, "why doesn't this guy just buy a Prius", I would like to keep my wonderfully comfortable and luxurious lexus, and just max out the mileage possible. I will never buy another regular gas vehicle in my life since I figure by the time my ES 300 gets 50-60K more miles, I'll be ready to buy an electric hybrid plug-in. "No plug, no deal" will be my next purchase. I figure the real roadworthy ones are about 3-4 years off. I'm hoping to be able to report a substantial difference on my ES 300 with the better tires and the continued conservative driving. Are there any other hypermileage ES300 drivers that have found any differences with tire upgrades?
  6. I just bought a 1997 ES 300 and after putting on 2000 mostly highway miles, I range from 26-28MPG. One trip I made exclusively on hwy miles and reached 29mpg. The car has 129,000 miles on odometer. Keep in mind I really do "Drive like Miss Daisy" to maximize mileage and rarely exceed 60mph/97kph. I even go to the extent of driving a little slower than traffic in city so that cars will get ahead of me and trip the next traffic light sensor, in time so that I don't have to slow down significantly or stop. The one-owner car was sold to me with the original sticker showing city/hwy of 19/26, so I feel pretty good about the mileage. I do live in the Seattle/Tacoma area, so rarely need to use the air conditioning. I also very rarely am involved with stop/go traffic on the highway. Filling the tank when it reaches 1/4 on the guage, equates to about 350 miles between fillups. At this time in late 2007, this is about $40 per 3/4 tank fill. The tank holds 18.5 gallons, so holding out 1.5 gallons reserve, I suppose I have an effective range of about 500 miles if I was only running highway miles on a roadtrip (I would never let the tank go that low though). I use only regular unleaded fuel at Costco (the car runs flawlessly on this), personally considering premium to be a waste of money. But if someone has ran some testing on the differences in their own vehicle, I'd be interested to know if the fuel mileage was really improved enough to pay for the difference. I would also be interested in finding out what other ES 300 owners have been getting for mileage. Any other "drivinglikemissdaisy" drivers out there?
