  1. You did a really nice job on the install. I've very interested in doing the same thing. But just to have a full understanding the piece in the ashtray is not the radar dector but another a unit that has the face of the radar dector. Where did you place the detector. If the detector is actually in the ashtray then how did you set everything up. JGRussell
  2. First off let me start by telling you that on my passenger headlight there is a white stain on the interior of the headlight housing. I've come to the conclusion that the only way to remove this is by removing the lense from the headlight housing. Whats the best way to remove the lense? Placing the headlight in the oven and if so, what temp, using a hair dryer? What should I use to reseal the lense to the housing when I'm done? Thanks JGRussell
  3. It's just like putting tint on. Ask a tint shop and see if they will do it. It's pretty easy, just time consuming. Several of my friends have done with a little soap water and a blow dryer.[ quote name=MiniD350' date='Nov 28 2007, 04:26 AM' post='274326] Hey guys im new to the forum. I've ordered smoked vinyl cutouts of the taillights and rear reflectors from ebay, but I can't find a place that can install them! Every shop I went to said it would be difficult because of the shape of the tailights, and they suggest painting them instead which I wouldnt prefer at this point. Can anyone recommend a place in SOCAL that can install these? Thanks in advance!
  4. Come on guys, you've got to have some ideas!
  5. Thats not quite right. He is only adding a sub and there is no need to run all new wires for his door speakers. Since he already has an aftermarket unit in his dash and everything is working then there is no need to do that. Now if he were to replace all door speakers with or without an amp then yes he would need to rewire the vehicle. Nick, Adding only a sub is very easy, I'll draw you a diagram if you'd like, it's the running of the wires and taking apart the car that is very time consuming. When you do this be patient and don't get mad if you can't figure it out. The best way to figure something out is take a break, drink a beer and then go back at it. HAHA. Another thing I didn't mention is the ohms of your sub. Every amplifier has an ohm rating and you want to make sure that your speakers match your amps ohms so you can get as much power as possible. When your ready to install I will help you more. JGRussell
  6. It's pretty easy but very time consuming. - You are going to have 3 wire runs from the front of the vehicle to the back (assuming you are placing your amp in the trunk). - You'll have a power wire (how powerful is the amp, you need to make sure you have a big enough gauge wire to handle the amp. Either 4awg or 8awg will most likely work). - You are going to want to run the power wire on the passenger side of the vehicle and the Remote wire and RCAs on the driver side (This reduces the chance of having engine noise). -You'll run the power wire from the amp through the firewall to the battery (Don't drill a hole through the bottom of the car and run the wire underneath the body of the vehicle, its a fire hazard and tacky.) - You will also need to find a place to ground your amp. When you do this, make sure you scrap off the paint on the body of the car with a razor to make sure you have a solid ground connection. - Back to RCAs and Remote wire. You'll run those from the amp to behind the dash to your aftermarket head unit. You should have a lowpass RCA or Rear RCA input on the back of your deck. You'll connect the Remote wire to the wiring harness connecting your deck to the factory harness (this wire is either blue or most of the time blue/white wire) All that information should cover it, let me know if you have any questions. During my college years I worked at a stereo shop so I'm full of all kinds of info. Best of Luck!!! JGRussell How to wire from the amps to the head unit and power supply. I bought the set from a former BWM owner, and there batteries are in the back, so i need to know how to run it to a Lexus battery. However any information would help Thanks, Nick
  7. I have had the hardest time trying to find wheels that flow with my Silver GS 300. I've looked forever and just had no luck. Do any of you have any opinions on style and size? Since I haven't had any luck Im about to give up and just keep the factory wheels which would be a shame. Jordan (If you can please post a link directly to the wheel)
  8. Nick, How much info are you needing? How to install everything or just how to install it on the back shelf?
  9. Hey, I'm in the same situation with the Nakamichi Sound System. I'm wanting to put a double din in without replacing all the speakers. Have you had any luck finding a harness?
  10. I'm not for sure, I'm thinking Pioneer AVIC Z3. Thanks for the offer but I've found a double din kit in Japan that is painted to match the lexus dash.
  11. Yesterday I was driving and saw that at about 60mph my rpms were a little over 3K. Is this usual? I bought the car brand new and then handed it off to a family member for a while. I just got the car back and can't remember if this is usual. My thinking is that at about 60mph i would be running at about 2K. Any thoughts? JGRussell
  12. I own a 2000 GS300 Platinum Edition with a Nakamichi Stereo System and I'm wanting to put a Double Din unit in my vehicle without replacing the entire stereo system. Does anyoneknow if that can be done? As far as the setup goes for the current stereo system, I'm not for sure if the Nakamichi system is like a Marl Levison stereo system. What about harnesses, would I be able to purchase a harness or would I have to hard wire it in? Can I bypass the amp and at least run the door speakers? Any info is great. Thanks JGRussell
  13. I also have a 2000 GS 300 and am also interested in replacing the head unit with a double din. I've researched it quite a bit and I've spoken and seen double dins in our type of vehicle. It can be done with no major modifications. Also all of the dash kits for lexus look like crap. You can order a double din dash kit that matches you dash from a place in California. Heres the link: http://l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=1726 Let me know what unit you've decided to put in your dash.
