  1. Anyone? Looking to see if there exist an arm reset that is between the two seats as part of the console. similar toi what the es 300 has.
  2. Check ou edmunds.com Here's a link to the 2000 RX300 http://makeashorterlink.com/?V25832209
  3. Just goto edmunds.com and look at the JD Powers ratings. To disagree with a rpevious post BMW makes some really awesome cars. The 325 is one of the highest rated cars recently. However, to my dismay, the X3 and X5 have received very poor reviews. As does to junky Mercedes suv, even worse reviews. After a lot of research I ended up buying a use 2001 RX300. Bimmers are great cars, but their SUVs really suck. Don't be a sucker for the symbol. Oh and we did test drive. The x3 has the same feel as does the 325 excepot taht it is higher. The end result, a real bumpy, too sporty of a ride for an SUV. Taking a 325 and jacking up the wheel, whioch is essentially what they did, just does nto work well. The x5 a little more of a luxury ride. But so far the RX300 has the nicest ride of all the cars I drove.
  4. I am looking for something with the protecting characteristics of Armor All but has a flat, not shinny, finish. My prodlems is when I use Armor All (2001 Formula) on my dahs of my RX300 I get almost a dangerous amount of glare form the sun (early morning or late afternoon). I noticed atthe BMW shop when they detail they use a product like armor all but instead of a shinny finish it hasd a flat finish. I have not noticed, nor have I looked to hard, such a product at the auto store. CAn anyone recommend such a product? Thanks
  5. I contacted http://streetkeys.com/ to ask about their keys for the RX300. Currently they have either a non-remote generic master or a non-remote lexus bradned master key. the first cost abotu $25 the later about $50. They contract out with reps all over the country and for $60 you can take your car in, provided you have at least one master key, and have them cut and program the new key. In a couple of month they will offer a master key with remote and sell it for $100 plus $60 for cutting and programming. You can for go the programing cost of $60 and use their instructions. You will still need to find a lock smith with a sidewinder bit to cut your key first. i have heard this cost up to $25. So I would say if in fact you can buy a legit uncut key for under $100 on ebay then that is the cheapest way to go provided you have at leastr one master. If you do not have one master key I have seen services that will come out and reprogram your entire car and give you two or three new keys. all for about the same or a little less (since you get a couple of keys) as it would cost to get one form lexus. I think I saw this server for about $350 I can not recall. This service may or may nto void your warranty since they replace a part inside your car. Your old keys will nto work after this reprogramming.
  6. So far no one asked if you were attempting to keep track of your mileage. You should regularly trakc your own for a few fill ups in a row abotu twicce a year. This is actually suggested by auto makers as a way to monitor the performance of your car. If your mileage goes whacky then it's time to take it in. Just in case you don't know. 1) Go to get gas write down your mileage. 2) Fill up the tank all the way. 3) Next time you get gas write down you mileage again. 4) Now fill up your tank all the way. Write down the exact amount of gas you just put in. Be as accurate as possible. 5) Take you current mileage minus your mileage form step 1 and divide by the amount of gas you just put in. That's you avg mpg. Do this about three times in a row in case you did some abnormal driving during one on those weeks,+
  7. I own a 2001 RX300. I seem to recall looking at another RX300 with the Gold Package that had an arm rest between the two front seats. I am nto refering to the arm rest attached to the seats themselves but one in the middle that is attached to that storage, ashtray, cup holder thing in the middle. (as a piont of refering the BMW 3 series has this as an option if you've seen them). Is this correct, does such an armrest exist? If so is it available as an add-on product since my Lexus does not have it? The arm rest that are attached to the seats end up being too close to my body in order for my arm the rest comfortably. I do know that you can buy this for the BMW as an add-on product although it was originally only available with one of the upgrade packages.
  8. .. and yet a third post in my own thread... Turns out to have been a false alarm. When my wife returned form work the water satins had dried away completely. Well at least its good to know I can get the seats wet a little bit. Of course I already ran out and bought a cleaner and a conditioner.
  9. Well maybe I'm answering my own question here but this is what I found on leathersolutions.com. Any comments woudl be much appreciated. +++ Water stains in leather? Clean water stains such as condensation from a glass is easily treated with clean water! You have a stain because the water drop has dried in the middle of a piece of leather. It has a clear point of demarcation to the rest of the leather. What you want to do is reduce that point of demarcation by wetting the entire cushion or area out to a seam or edge. Take a bowl of room temp water and a new sponge. Soak the sponge wring it as dry as possible and starting at the spot dampen the leather and move the sponge to the edges of the cushion. Allowing the moisture to become less and less as you get further from the spot. Do not scrub, just wipe. You do not want to soak the leather just get it damp enough at the stain to release the stain and wet the rest of the leather so that the entire cushion can dry uniformly across the cushion rather than in that one spot. Water has a tendency to dry leather’s natural “oils” so it is best to condition the leather after getting rid of the stain with “The Leather Solution” Cleaner, Conditioner and Protector. Hidey’s Beauty Treatment. Dirty water or tea, coffee, soda can be treated the same way but may leave it’s own mark. That requires professional care.
  10. Like a moron I left the sun roof tolted open last night and we had a pretty good rain all evening. At around 8 this morning we discover the front seats had standing water on them. I took a rag and dried away the water. However the area that had water is now a shade or two lighter than the rest of the leather. We have the light tan leather seats. My wife took the car to work so I do not know if these stains will stay or will dry out. Assuming the stains will stay what can I do to fix this problem? The leather is in otherwise excellent conditon.
  11. does no one know the answer to this?
  12. I actually made a long repsonse to this and you alreayd got yoru answer. Here's a short version. They sell warranties to make money. Accuraries know what the average repair cost will be and they add profit on top of that. What ever they are charging you they figure typically repair cost will be about 10 to 30 percent under the cost of warranty.
  13. On the extended warranty keep this in mind (this applies to all extended warranties). An actuary came up with an over/under. Meaning there is a dollar amount where they say half the cars will require work less than this amoutn and half the cars require work over this amount. Now keep in mind Lexus, or any party offering this warranty, needs to make a profit. So what they are charging is usually a little bit more (or a lot of bit more) than this over/under amount. So when they offer you a 3 year warranty for $1,200 they are essentially saying "we have a good guees that your car will reuire less than this amoutn in repairs over the next 3 years". Since I'm in insurance and this is not a critical issue I figure according to the acuary I can expect, on average, to pay less or abotu the same amoutn as the cost of the warranty. In other words there is no free lunch. But it is a gamble. I am suprised you were offered a "bumper to bumper" warranty. The Lexus dealer in Serramonte offered a three year limited warranty. Since this is a car, and not your health or life, I would say keep the $1,200 and you may or may not have that much in repairs in the next three years. They've already crunched the numbers for you. As for wind noise our recently purchased 2001 Rx300 hs some wind noise. We bought an BMW 325i 2001 brand new and noticed through time we get wind noise. What happens in all cars is eventually the weather stripping and rubber shrinks slightly or goes a little bit our of shape and there really is nothing you can do about it except to replace all your weather stripping ever 3 years. So far no problems except for a timing belt adjustment which was covered and a ash tray that woudl nto open. We bought a certified pre owned from a Lexus dealer. they adjusted the belt and swapped out the ash tray from another used car!
  14. I've noticed people selling used Lexus keys on ebay. These keys are in fact used, were originally for another RX300 and are already cut. So my question is can I use one of these used keys to work on my Lexus? Now I've also found, on this board, mention of streetkeys.com. They sell new genric or branded Lexus keys that are not cut. The generic key is $25 and the cutting and programming is $60. Not too bad actually and may just be worth it. But if another key, as mentioned above, can work with my Lexus why can't a pace liek streetkeys just precut it? Of course for both above options I want to be able to use my current master key. Thanks for your help.
