  1. Hey Man....I see that it is 2 months later but was wondering if you could let me know the outcome of your transmission problem. I have a 1994 GS300 that recently started having issues....sounds very similar to the issues you had. I believe that there was too much fluid in the tranny and could have messed up the tranny pump from too much pressure as mentioned before. When the car is started, it makes a sound similar to that of a Power Steering system that is low on fluid (whining sound). Anyways, The car drives fine for about 10 min and then it eventually starts slipping which makes me think that the transmission is overheating and causing the slippage. What route did you go with the tranny? Swap it out for a new/used one or do a transmission rebuild? I really gotta get this fixed asap but don't want to spend a ton of $$$ (which I know is hard when having a Lexus) Any response and knowledge would be greatly appreciated!
  2. I live in Tampa near USF and am looking for a good reasonably-priced mechanic that specializes in Lexus. I am usually a DIY type of person but would like to have access to a professional mechanic just in case I need major work done. I have a 1994 GS300. Thanks-
  3. I have a 1994 GS300 and there is a tapping sound coming from the top of the engine near the cams. I have narrowed it down to the valves and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the exact problem might be. The car runs fine except for making a loud tapping sound. I figure it must be a bad cam follower but would like to hear the opinion of a professional or DIY veteran. Thanks for the feedback...

  6. I have a 1994 GS300 that recently started making a tapping noise towards the rear of the engine. I believe it has to do with the valves either sticking or an adjustment issue. What could be the possible cause and solution to this problem?

  8. we have come to the conclusion that the sound is a sticky valve or valve lash. What could be the cause of this? How can I adjuct the valves?
  9. Was the TB installed correctly? My dad and I did the belt ourselves but did put all the pulleys at TDC so I am pretty sure.... Can being off by one tooth or so cause that much difference? If so, how can I change the timing and make sure it is absolutely perfect?
  10. I have a 1994 GS300 that I recently made a few repairs (New water pump, thermostat, timing belt, serpentine belt) to. After drivng it for about 20 miles, it has started making a knocking sound that sounds like a valve or lifter towards the back of the engine. Also, about a min after I shut the car off after driving for some time, It starts to make a boiling sound in the water system. Unfortunately, my temperature gauge on the dash does not work. It drives good and coolant does circulate trhrough the system while driving. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I did just put some sea foam in the crank case and water wetter in the radiator to see if it might help....prob not but I'm crossing my fingers. Will some of you DIY veterens please offer some ideas and solutions. Thanks-

  12. I have a 1994 GS300. When I turn on the headlights, The passenger side light goes dim and it seems as though both the low beam and high beam are turned on at the same time except they are only putting out about 20-30% power in each. The drivers side headlight works just fine. Also, when the high beams are applied, the passenger side goes out completely while once again, the drivers side works perfectly. I recently changed the bulbs to see if that was the problem but, it didn't help at all. Can someone please give me an explanation....Thanks
