  1. 2jzgte bolts right in with stock mounts (no need for custom). Search here and at clublexus for info.
  2. If you are keeping the car forever, I wouldn't sweat it. However, if you're thinking temporary, it will be very difficult to sell. In california, some insurance companies will not provide comprehensive insurance for the car. I'm not sure how it is in your state. Cars which are theft recovery usuallly have electrical bugs. If I were you, I'd wait for a first or second owner clean title vehicle. Why have the headache of trying to fix or resolve "gremlins." Oh yeah, 9000k is pretty expensive for a salvage title no matter how many miles.
  3. I'm pretty experienced with engine work, and swapping motors. But i would have to agree, doing a tune up (wires, cap, and spark plugs) is a !Removed! on 2jz's. The problem i had was dropping nuts into the dark abyss (caught on something and would not drop to the floor). Plus, the gaskets for the egr went bye bye. Anyways, It would be pretty damn easy if the engine was out of the car. I think paying a mechanic to deal with it is a better idea. You could spend those hours working overtime or with your family, wife. After you do it for the first time though, you'll be an expert. Be forewarned, it's !Removed!. A flexible magnetic extension should help. Brake cleaner helps to clean the surfaces of the throttle body. Gaskets to replace the old ones, if you want, for the egr and throttle body. Toyota dealers don't carry them readily. Lexus ones do. GOOD LUCK
  4. Same as other post. Check the engine codes first (do a search, pretty simple using a paperclip) Fuel Pump ECU problem is one of the MOST common problems with the SC and LS. The problem does NOT have an engine code so you will not know unless you do the bypass. The fix is SIMPLE, just connecting 2 wires. Stalling is the common symptom. If your car does not throw any engine codes, try the fuel pump ecu fix (bypass) first. You will save yourself a lot of time and money (my own experience--- tune up, replaced throttle position sensor, cleaned throttle body didn't help. Fuel filter has to be significantly clogged--- not likely, but plausible i guess). Good Luck.

  6. Do a 2jz gte swap into the SC400. It has the same engine cradle(crossmember) as the SC300. NO NEED to fabricate engine mounts. It has been done by CL members.
  7. The SC400 and SC300 have identical engine cradles (crossmember). This means only the engine mounts are different IE: You can do the supra tt swap without any mount fabrication-- all bolts in. Few guys over on clublexus has figured this out. So don't dump your SC400.
